been working together successfully for more than 12 years. IGEL has been a Citrix Global Alliance Partner since 2002 and IGEL thin clients have been certifi ed by Citrix on an ongoing basis since 2006.

HDX Ready: best-possible user experienceWhether it be via LAN, WLAN or WAN when accessing Citrix environ-ments, IGEL solutions offer consistently high performance and the best possible user experience. These properties demonstrate why they have been awarded the "Citrix Ready HDX Verifi ed" and "Citrix Ready HDX Veri-fi ed Premium" certifi cates by Citrix. In contrast, the Citrix Ready label merely indicates that the software client (Citrix Receiver) supports HDX Broadcast via a remote connection to the Citrix environment. End devices labeled Citrix Ready alone do not provide more sophisticated features such as voice over IP, video conferencing and 3D graphics. With its hard-ware and software thin clients from the Universal Desktop range (UD) and the three zero client models IZ1, IZ2 and IZ3 HDX, IGEL satisfi es at least the category "Citrix Ready HDX Verifi ed." What is more, all models in the IZ2 and IZ3 ranges come with an upgrade option allowing them to be con-verted into the IGEL UD2 and UD3 multi-protocol thin clients. All IGEL thin and zero clients are dualview-capable as standard, and even multiview scenarios with up to eight monitors working in parallel are possible thanks to the optional Universal MultiDisplay (UMD) software solution (licensing costs apply).

System-on-Chip: "HDX Ready SoC"With the "HDX Ready SoC" label, thin client manufacturers verify that they have a cost-effi cient reference design that is based on the Citrix System-on-Chip (SoC) Initiative and that speeds up HDX technology through hard-ware support. IGEL was one of the fi rst manufacturers to achieve this using especially energy-saving ARM architecture. The hardware platform now forms the basis for the particularly low-cost IGEL IZ1 HDX zero cli-ent. Thanks to an integrated digital signal processor (DSP) which speeds

Centralization, virtualization, mobility and multimedia these are the pri-mary topics currently propelling changes in IT infrastructures. The focus of the current solutions from Citrix is therefore two-fold: ensuring cost-effec-tiveness in computer centers and the fl exible provision of virtualized appli-cations and desktops. With Citrix FlexCast technology, this can be achieved on a needs basis and according to the specifi c situation. The leading zero clients as well as hardware and software thin clients from IGEL provide the necessary performance and cost effi ciency on the front end.

A close, long-term partnershipCitrix has a comprehensive range of solutions for companies and authori-ties looking to make IT an on-demand service. Along with mobility in the company, the optimization and securing of cloud networks and the setting up of a cloud infrastructure, the device-independent provision of apps and desktops is a key area. The relevant solutions for enabling this are Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop as well as XenClient and VDI-in-a-Box. With their great potential for standardization, the thin and zero client solutions from IGEL perfectly complement the Citrix portfolio. The aim of the IGEL zero clients and IGEL thin clients from the Universal Desktop range is to allow high-performance, secure and fl exible access to central IT infrastructures and to private, hybrid and public cloud environments. Citrix and IGEL have

FLEXIBLE PROVISION OF VIRTUAL APPLICATIONS AND DESKTOPS

Citrix creates a needs-based virtual desktop composed of the operating system, virtual applications and user-specifi c settings. Citrix delivers this desktop to the user quickly and reliably using HDX technology (High Defi nition Extension).

up the HDX protocol, the compact entry-level device optimized for Citrix XenDesktop offers video performance that was previously reserved for IGEL's top models.

Unifi ed communications and moreIn order to offer users the benefi ts of unifi ed communications with opti-mum video performance, IGEL thin and zero clients support the HDX Opti-mization Pack for Microsoft Lync. In addition, the devices offer high graph-ics performance that helps reduce the load on the server and optimize use of bandwidth by performing some of the video-related processing locally. As always, IGEL devices support a wide range of peripherals from local printers and scanners to digital dictation devices. With a WLAN option along with parallel and serial ports, uncommon user scenarios are possible too. In conjunction with the optional IGEL Universal Customization Builder (UCB) UMS add-on, it is even possible to locally install further drivers, tools and software clients.

Standardization and investment protectionThe IGEL Appliance Mode for Citrix XenDesktop combines the perfect HDX user experience with a PC-identical logon procedure. Immediately after switching on the device, the user sees the logon screen for their virtual Windows desktop without having any contact with the local operating system of the thin or zero client itself. The high-quality, rugged design of IGELs devices and regular fi rmware updates ensure long service lives and investment protection. The manufacturer also offers a free option to extend the hardware warranty for virtually all UD models to a total of fi ve years. As

far as the UD fi rmware is concerned, IGEL customers continue to receive release updates for a full three years after their thin client hardware is dis-continued, thus providing a level of investment protection which is unique in the sector. It should be noted that IGEL Universal Desktop thin clients not only support the latest protocol standards for seamless integration with Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp. For special cases, they also offer access to IBM host systems, for example, or to the Internet.

Sector-leading remote managementIn keeping with the easy management of the Citrix environment, the IGEL Universal Management Suite (UMS) remote management software that comes supplied with all IGEL thin and zero clients also allows straight-forward assignment and access confi guration. For example, virtual desk-tops can be assigned to a given company department by means of vari-ous group profi les, while another department obtains access to published applications. Similarly, the IGEL Appliance Mode for Citrix XenDesktop can easily be enabled with just a click of a mouse. Moreover, the IGEL UMS provides an exceptionally effi cient update and asset management system. Firmware updates are provided in a fail-safe, scheduled manner that con-serves resources and bandwidth. Updating Citrix Receiver on a Universal Desktop thin client with Windows Embedded for example does not require distribution of a complete fi rmware image: only the update itself is needed (partial update).

The "Citrix Ready HDX Verifi ed" certifi cation program makes a distinction between two levels. The "Citrix Ready HDX Verifi ed" level is aimed at task and knowl-edge workers who primarily use productivity and standard applications. In contrast, the new "Citrix Ready HDX Verifi ed Premium" class is aimed at power users who also need multimedia and unifi ed communications. Advanced HDX features, for example multimedia redirection or optimized voice and video conference solutions, are required for this purpose.

Security: secure end devicesTo complement the Citrix security features and solutions, the IGEL portfo-lio includes its own extensive, well-integrated security features such as Virtual Private Network (VPN) access and smartcard authentication. The latter can be achieved in a particularly effi cient manner with the optional IGEL smartcard that is read either by a space-saving integrated reader, or by one of the many supported external readers. IGEL supports numer-ous other smartcard or USB token-based authentication solutions too. To protect sensitive data, USB ports can be disabled on a blanket basis by the administrator or enabled only for certain USB devices. Remote manage-ment is always encrypted and certifi cate-based.

Client standardization using softwareMinimal initial investment and maximum benefi ts as regards IT standard-ization and versatility Citrix customers can easily achieve this with the help of software thin clients based on the IGEL Universal Desktop Con-verter 2 (UDC2).
