4 Content Acquisition Front End
The Cisco CAV10242 utilizes a Broadcom BCM3383 8x4 DOCSIS 3.0 front-end that shares its QAM demodulators between DOCSIS and video. The BCM3383’s integrated Full Band Capture (FBC) front-end removes all MSO channel lineup limitations and provides the most flexible, deployment friendly solution possible by providing a FBC window that can utilize any channel in the downstream spectrum. By sharing Video and DOCSIS QAMs the CAV10242 is able to provide additional video features and higher DOCSIS performance in a smaller footprint than discrete solutions. The CAV10242 can allocate 4 QAM demodulators for video capture providing a main display, picture-in-picture, and fast channel change functionality (up and down channels) while allocating the remaining 4 QAM demodulators for DOCSIS 3.0 functionality such as DSG, Metadata, or Video over DOCSIS.

DOCSIS 2.0 and 3.0 The DOCSIS eCM supports DOCSIS 2.0 and DOCSIS 3.0.
DOCSIS Set-top Gateway
Compliant with DOCSIS Set-top Gateway specifications for out of band messaging using the DOCSIS eCM to provide access to the DSG channel.
Downstream Tuning The CAV10242 supports two manufacturing options, low-band split and mid-band split. Low-band Split: The DOCSIS eCM tuner is agile over an extended frequency range of 54 to 1002MHz for in-band DOCSIS modem data, including the DOCSIS DSG tunnels. For the DOCSIS RF tuner the lower band edge of the lowest frequency channel is 52 MHz and the upper band edge of the highest frequency channel is 1002MHz. Mid-Band Split: The DOCSIS eCM tuner is agile over an extended frequency range of 108 to 1002MHz for in-band DOCSIS modem data, including the DOCSIS DSG tunnels. For the DOCSIS RF tuner the lower band edge of the lowest frequency channel is 88.75MHz and the upper band edge of the highest frequency channel is 1002MHz.
Receive Channels Supports one, two, three, four, five, six, seven or eight Receive Channels in its downstream bonding operation.
Transmit Channels Supports transmitter section capable of one, two, three or four upstream channels, including support for Multiple Transmit Channel Mode.
Service Identifiers Supports sixteen (16) Service Identifiers (SIDs).
QoS Performs upstream QoS classification and Upstream Drop Classification of IPv6 traffic.
eSAFE The eCM has a logical CPE interface to the eSTB embedded Service/Application Functional Entity (eSAFE) .
