IntroductionThis guide contains information about configuring and using the Cisco Transport Manager Equipment Module to interface with Cisco Transport Manager and its managed ONS 15454 network elements.
OverviewThe Cisco Transport Manager Equipment Module supports Cisco Transport Manager (CTM), the EMS for the Cisco ONS 15454 optical network switching solution. The ONS 15454 supports 240 Gbps of TDM, ATM, and IP traffic in any combination.
CTM Gateway/TL1 provides an interface between ONS network elements (NEs) and an OSS, allowing service providers to manage NEs and provision services using TL1 commands.
CTM communicates with ONS NEs through their TL1 management interface. Each ONS NE is uniquely identified by a Node Identifier stored in this Equipment Module.
The Cisco ONS 15454 chassis supports common control cards, electrical cards, optical cards, and a Ethernet/FastEthernet card.
The Equipment Module communicates with CTM via a TL1 interface over Telnet.
Note In order to configure the Cisco Transport Manager Equipment Module you must install it during the Cisco Provisioning Center installation procedures. For more information about installing Cisco Provisioning Center, refer to the CPC Installation Guide.
Configuration Checklist Knowledge of the network fabric and service elements is gained through upload of information from CTM into the Cisco Provisioning Center database. Once the database contains an accurate model of the network, the Equipment Module can be used by the Optical Service Application and the Cisco Provisioning Center engine to provision services.
To configure the Equipment Module to make it operational with Cisco Provisioning Center, complete the following steps:
1. Create a Network Object for Cisco Transport Manager.
2. Perform Node Discovery for existing nodes in the network.
3. Modify each discovered node to provide valid ONS 15454 User Account and Password information.

vi /opt/CiscoTransportManagerServer/CTMServer.cfg
Step 3 Ensure the following values are specified. The content of the configuration file will depend on the version of CTM that you are running.
If you are running CTM 2.1:
gatewayTL1 = activemodule-error-log-on = SW,GWTL1,IPTL1,IPCLNP,MAIN,OSS,JMOCO,POLLER,PM,FM,SNMP,PARSER,DBSERV,CONFIG,TTUNNEL, STUNNELdb-host = <CTM db server IP address>db-location = <CTM db server IP address>:<port>:CTM<version>
If you are running CTM 2.2:
gwTL1ForwardingAgent = activemodule-error-log-on = SW,GWTL1,IPTL1,IPCLNP,MAIN,OSS,JMOCO,POLLER,PM,FM,SNMP,PARSER,DBSERV,CONFIG,TTUNNEL, STUNNELdb-host = <CTM db server IP address>db-location = <CTM db server IP address>:<port>:CTM<version>
Note Each configuration variable and value must be on the same line in the configuration file.
Step 4 Save and exit the file.
Creating a Network Object One network object must be created for each network managed by CTM. The following steps explain how to create a network object.
Step 1 Click networks > Cisco Transport Manager Equipment Module > Network.
Step 2 In the Lister view, click the Create button on the Action Bar. An Object View will be opened.
Step 3 Specify attribute values. Refer to Table A-5 in Appendix A, “Attribute Reference” for specific attribute information. Ensure correct values for the following attributes are supplied:

Chapter 4 UploadInitial System Upload
• CTM Login Account—Must be identical to the OSS Profile Name value specified in the OSS Client Profile for Cisco Provisioning Center in CTM
• CTM Login Password—Must be identical to the Password value specified in the OSS Client Profile for Cisco Provisioning Center in CTM
Step 4 Click the save or apply now button to save or apply the network object.
Initial System Upload In order to provision services, the Syndesis database must have detailed knowledge of the managed networks. Using a procedure called upload, objects are created within the Syndesis database that represent nodes within the managed network.
Note The term upload does not refer to the creation of physical links that are required between optical nodes. For information on creating SONET links, refer to the Optical Service Application Solutions Guide.
The Cisco Transport Manager Equipment Module supports the following types of upload:
• Given a network object, discover nodes managed by CTM.
• Given a network object, upload fabric elements (for example, nodes, cards and physical ports)
• Given a node or network object and fabric elements, upload service elements (objects used to create services, for example, OC cross connects)
• Given a node or network object, upload the fabric and service elements
The upload function takes precedence over any Transactions that are running at the time of upload. If the upload function makes a change back to the fabric that affects a running Transaction (such as deleting a logical port that the threader has decided to use) then this Transaction fails and must be restarted.
A network object must be created in order to perform an upload.
The Cisco Transport Manager Equipment Module performs an upload by initiating a telnet session and issuing TL1 commands to obtain data from the ONS 15454 via the CTM GateWay.
Note Performing a swap of the XC card to an XCVT card or vice-versa after an initial upload will cause any subsequent uploads to fail. The error code 130006 Sonet port rschanneltype change to $channeltype not supported will appear in upload transaction logs. The workaround is to delete and recreate the node using the “Upload Delete” section on page 4-6.
Node Discovery Node discovery can be performed to discover all ONS nodes in a network. Through node discovery, the Syndesis database is populated with a list of the ONS nodes in the specified network. This information corresponds to the nodes managed by the CTM server.
Performing a Node Discovery
To perform a node discovery for a network, perform the following procedure.

• Password for the Account—enter the password for the user account
Note CTM requires that all nodes have the same user account and password information. Ensure that user accounts and passwords are the same for each node that you have discovered.
Step 4 Click the save or apply now button to save or apply the user account information.
Network Upload A network upload can be performed to upload all of the nodes within a specified network. Network upload will populate the Syndesis database with fabric information, service information, or both fabric and service information similar to a node upload. A network upload must be performed after node discovery has been successfully completed.

Chapter 4 UploadRe-upload
Re-uploadIn order to stay synchronized, the Syndesis database needs to be continually updated, if changes are being made to nodes outside of Cisco Provisioning Center. You must re-upload after any of the following scenarios:
• A new switch has been added to the network.
• New hardware has been added to a switch (e.g. control cards, optical/electrical interface cards).
• You need to recover from a failure situation (to synchronize the database with the network).
• Service elements have been manually configured on the same network elements that Cisco Provisioning Center is managing. This allows flexibility for setting up and repairing services.
Depending on the type of change that has taken place on a switch, you may need to upload the fabric and/or service elements for the node. Re-upload operations are the same as initial upload operations. For more information, refer to the “Initial System Upload” section on page 4-3.

1. Upload assigns a Channel Type (port granularity) to ports in cross connects depending on the cross connect card installed in the ONS15454. STS1 is used for ports in a cross connect on an XC card, and VT1.5 is used for ports in a cross connect on an XCVT card. After an initial upload, if any of the cross connect card configurations are changed, this error message will occur since this Equipment Module doesn’t allow changing the channel type of a cross connect "on the fly".

DownloadThis chapter details download functionality enabled by the Cisco Transport Manager Equipment Module. It is important to differentiate the following behavior:
• Services are created using the Optical Service Application
• Service elements required by a Service are created automatically by the Cisco Transport Manager Equipment Module and downloaded to the switch.
Most download functionality is triggered by the creation of a service object in the Optical Service Application.
Download is available for the following functions:
• Port Configuration
• Activation
• Rollback
• Protection Group
Port Configuration Once you have completed Upload, you can modify the following port configuration values:
• Modify the provisioned state of a SONET or PDH Port
• Modify error thresholds for a SONET Port
• Modify SDCC for a SONET Port
To configure a SONET port or PDH port, perform the following procedure.
Step 1 Navigate to networks > Cisco Transport Manager Equipment Module > OC Physical Port for SONET port configuration. For PDH port configuration, navigate to networks > Cisco Transport Manager Equipment Module > DS Physical Port.
Step 2 In the Lister view, click the Get List button on the Action Bar to retrieve a list of SONET or PDH ports. Select the port you want to configure by clicking the Select check box.
Step 3 Click the Modify button on the Action Bar.
Step 4 Modify the port as necessary.
SONET Ports:
5-1 Equipment Module Configuration Guide
Chapter 5 DownloadActivation
• Configure the provisioned state of the port by changing the Provisioned State value. Refer to the “OC Physical Port” section on page A-25 for attribute information.
• Modify the error thresholds on the port by changing the values for the following attributes:
• Bit error rate for signal failure
• Bit error rate for signal degrade
Refer to the “OC Physical Port” section on page A-25 for attribute information.
• Modify SDCC for a SONET Port by changing the Enable SDCC for this port value.
PDH Ports:
• Configure the provisioned state of the port by changing the Provisioning State value. Refer to the “DS Physical Port” section on page A-20 for attribute information.
Step 5 Click the save or apply now button to save or apply the port configuration.
Activation Activation is performed whenever a SONET cross connect, PDH cross connect or SONET-PDH Interworking cross connect is created by this Equipment Module to support service creation through the Optical Service Application. Any number of SONET, PDH, and Interworking cross connects can be created and deleted within a single Transaction. Creation and deletion of cross connects can not be done manually using this Equipment Module.
Rollback In the event of an activation failure, rollback is performed automatically. The Cisco Transport Manager Equipment Module supports rollback by rolling back cross-connects, protection groups and port configurations that were activated within a Transaction. Rollback reverts the switch back to its original state prior to the start of the Transaction.
In some situations, it may be necessary to perform a manual rollback (e.g. when the connection to a switch is lost). Manual rollback is possible by following these steps:
• direct telnet session to the ONS 15454
• issuing the appropriate TL1 commands to log in and delete/add the cross connects. Consult Appendix B, “TL-1 Command Reference” for more information.
Protection GroupDownloading a Protection Group (create or delete) is triggered by the creation or deletion of a Protection Member (done using the Optical Service Application). Downloading a Protection Group (modify) is triggered by the modification of a Protection Group (done using the Optical Service Application). On its own, creating a Protection Group using the Optical Service Application does not result in a download to the node. You must assign working and protective ports within a single transaction to download to the node. For more information on using the Optical Service Application, see the Cisco Provisioning Center Optical Service Application Solutions Guide.

Service Element ProfilesThis chapter contains information about creating Service Element profiles for frequently used service elements.
Working with Service Element Profiles Service element profiles provide you with access to the specific attributes for a Cisco Transport Manager Equipment Module service element. A corresponding Service element profile exists for each service element type that the node supports. Default profiles provide the initial (default) attribute values for the corresponding object class whenever such a new object is created.
For a given service element, more than one profile may be defined. However, for a given object, only one profile may be associated at any one time.
Since profiles themselves are objects that you can create and modify, they provide a means to store and name commonly used sets of attributes and provide a reliable shorthand method of configuring any number of new objects. A profile has most of the same attributes as the corresponding object class. Some attributes of the object class are not included in the profile because they are unique for each object. For example, an object's name is not a profile attribute.
The attributes of a profile are referred to as initial value attributes because they are used to assign the initial values to the corresponding object. Once a new object has been created based on a profile, changes to profile attribute values do not cause any changes to the corresponding object. The only time the profile attributes affect the object is when you create a new object or when you reassign an existing object to the same or different profile.
For the Cisco Transport Manager Equipment Module, you can create service element profiles for the following supported service elements:
– SONET cross connect
– Interworking cross connect
– PDH physical port
– SONET physical port
This section details the generic procedure for creating, modifying, and deleting Service element profiles for this Equipment Module. An inventory of attributes for Optical Logical Port Profiles and their acceptable values can be found in Appendix A, “Attribute Reference”.
6-1 Equipment Module Configuration Guide
Chapter 6 Service Element ProfilesWorking with Service Element Profiles
If you provide values for these attributes and also provide values in other places when you are creating a service (either during service creation or in a Service object profile) the threader will override the values based on the following scale of priorities:
1. Service object Subset Viewer/Object Viewer—All information provided in the Service object Subset Viewer and Object Viewer is used by Cisco Provisioning Center.
2. Service object profile—Cisco Provisioning Center will only use the information provided in the Service object profile for values that are either not available or not specified in the Service object Subset Viewer.
3. Service element profile—Cisco Provisioning Center uses values from the Service element profile for all attributes that are not present or not specified in the Service object profile or on the Service object Subset Viewer.
Creating a Service Element Profile To create a Service Element Profile, perform the following procedure.
Step 1 Click networks > Cisco Transport Manager Equipment Module > specific service element profile (under Profiles).
Step 2 In the Lister view, click the Create button on the Action Bar. An Object View will be opened.
Step 3 Specify attribute values. Refer to the object attribute tables in Appendix A for specific attribute information. When creating a profile, use the attribute tables for the corresponding service object, since profiles contain a subset of the service object attributes. Profiled attributes are marked with a "P" in the table.
Step 4 Save the profile in memory by clicking save.To write the profile to the database, click apply now.
Modifying a Service Element Profile To modify a service element profile, complete the following steps:
