The Circumvention Tech Festival gathers the international community fighting censorship and surveillance for a

week of diverse events and social gatherings. Anyone is invited to attend, including local Spanish communities

that are interested in sharing and learning how to become involved. Events will be conducted in English and

Spanish.

El Circumvention Tech Festival reúne a la comunidad internacional que lucha contra la censura y la vigilancia en Internet en una semana de eventos y encuentros sociales.

Todo el mundo está invitado a participar, incluidas las comunidades locales interesadas en compartir y participar

activamente. Tendremos eventos en inglés y español.

Cultural tips for people visiting Valencia

People in Spain take lunch from 2:00-5:00. This means that many stores and offices shut down. During the lunch hour, most restaurants serve a “menu del dia” for a set price that includes an appetizer, entree, dessert, a drink, and coffee. Just be aware that this is not “fast food” and the process may take up to an hour. We suggest that, considering the number of events during the festival, you take water and snacks in your bag.

Restaurants usually don’t start serving dinner till 8:00 or 8:30, and continue serving dinner till around 12:00. However, pinchos or small sandwiches, as well as tapas, are usually available all day.

When greeting or leaving an individual, two kisses on alternating cheeks are usually given. If it is convenient, it is also customary to verbally say goodbye to service staff, when leaving a restaurant or bar.

Also, as a general rule, the personal space or physical distance Spaniards feel comfortable keeping between people is smaller than other cultures.

Things to do in Valencia

The week following CTF, Las Fallas begins a traditional celebration where the city is wreathed in flames.

In the city itself, Playa Malvarrosa and Las Arenas are excellent and easily accessible beaches. The Old Quarter of the city is home to the city's most famous and eclectic bars. We will be providing tourism brochures at the festival.

Qué hacer en Valencia

La Playa de la Malvarrosa y la Playa de Las Arenas son excelentes y de fácil acceso. El casco antiguo está lleno de

bares y restaurantes que creanun ambiente ecléctico.

La semana siguiente al CTF comienzan Las Fallas, una fiesta tradicional en la que el fuego es el protagonista.

Repartiremos folletos turísticos para que no te pierdas nada.

Consejos culturales para los visitantes

La hora de la comida en España es, tradicionalmente, de 14:00 a 17:00. Esto significa que muchas tiendas y oficinas

están cerradas entre esas horas. A la hora de la comida, muchos restaurantes sirven el “menú del día”, que

usualmente incluye una selección de primeros platos, segundos platos, pan, postre y/o café, a un precio prefijado.

Ten en cuenta que no se trata de comida rápida y podría tardar hasta una hora. Te sugerimos que lleves en tu bolsa

agua y snacks, debido al número de eventos que tendrán lugar durante el festival.

Los restaurantes no suelen servir la cena antes de las 20:00 - 20:30, pero permanecen abiertos hasta más tarde de

las 00:00, especialmente durante el fin de semana. Sin embargo, puedes pedir pinchos, tapas y bocadillos

a cualquier hora del día.

Al saludar o despedirse de alguien, la tradición española es dar dos besos en las mejillas, siempre comenzando por el

lado izquierdo. También es tradición despedirse verbalmente del personal del personal de servicio al salir de un

restaurante o establecimiento.

¡Ah! Y como norma general, ten en cuenta que los Españoles se sienten cómodos dejando un espacio físico entre

We have arranged for food trucks that will be located right next to Las Naves. In addition, the Las Naves

cafeteria will be serving sandwiches and drinks. There are also many restaurants and cafes nearby, a

list of which are included in this brochure.

Where to get food / Dónde comer

Local transportation in Valencia is very efficient. The metro system runs from 5:30AM to midnight, with stations marked

with the letter 'M'. The bus system runs from 4:30AM to 10:30PM. A Valencia Tourist Card is available which offers

unlimited use of bus and metro for 1-3 days, and can be purchased at hotels, tourist offices, and online. In addition,

the city has a well-supported bike share system called Valenbisi.

El transporte público en Valencia es muy eficiente. El metro funciona desde las 5:30 hasta las 00:00. Las estaciones están

señaladas con una letra “M”. Los autobuses están operativos de 4:30 a 22:30. La tarjeta turística incluye transporte público y

puede ser adquirida en hoteles, oficinas de turismo y online. La ciudad cuenta también con un sistema de bicicletas público

All Week: Workshop & Taller Series

We are running two workshop series - one in English and one in Spanish. Each day will consist of up to 20 sessions

that focus on different themes ranging from highly technical workshops to roundtable discussions. For a

complete schedule check the website.

March 1: Circumvention Tech Summit & Reception by Las Naves | 13:00 - 18:00 / English & Spanish

This event is geared towards getting attendees to know each other and discover common interests and synergies

they can work on during the week. This event is followed by a reception sponsored by Las Naves.

March 2: Science Fair - Get to Know the Circumvention Tech Community | 17:00 - 19:00 / English

A fun, dynamic event where you can meet some of the organizations and people that make up the Circumvention

Tech Community.

March 6: Closing Ceremony & Party | 19:00 / English & Spanish

Hear from diverse, pioneering voices from the community, and help celebrate those individuals and projects that have

made a mark in the Circumvention Tech community. Volunteers have organized a Latin party at a local bar.

1 de marzo: Circumvention Tech Summit y Recepción a cargo de Las Naves | 13:00 - 18:00 / Inglés y Español

Este evento está diseñado para que los asistentes al festival puedan conocerse unos a otros y descubrir intereses comunes y sinergias para trabajar durante la semana. Por la tarde contaremos con una recepción de bienvenida a cargo de Las Naves.

2 de marzo: Science Fair - Conoce a la Comunidad Circumvention Tech | 17:00 - 19:00 / Inglés

Un evento dinámico y divertido para conocer a algunas de las organizaciones que forman parte de la comunidad de las tecnologías de evasión y las personas que están detrás de las mismas.

6 de marzo: Ceremonia de Clausura | 19:00 / Inglés y Español

Escucha a las voces pioneras de la comunidad internacional y celebra a los individuos y proyectos que marcan la diferencia en la comunidad de las tecnologías de evasión. Tras la clausura, trasladamos la fiesta a otro lugar apto para el baile.

This is the public part of the Tor Project Hack Event. Learn about the project, the technology, and their research. The

BarCamp style format allows attendees to bring questions and work along side Tor’s developers, advocates and

March 4: JournoSec in the Newsroom | All Afternoon

This event is aimed at media organizations, journalists and decision makers in the media field. Panels and roundtable discussions will address timely issues facing the ever-evolving world of digital freedom, security, and journalistic practice. The first half of this 8 hour workshop will be conducted in Spanish, and the second half will be conducted in English.

March 5: ASL19 Iran Cyber Dialogue (ICD) | All Day

Iran Cyber Dialogue (ICD) is an annual global conference on ICTdevelopment, Internet policy and human rights in Iran.Organized by ASL19, ICD brings together a hundred tech innovators, researchers, policy makers, civil society groups and journalists.

Our 2015 theme is Iran, Internet, Opportunities and Challenges.

The public event will include public panels exploring ICT development in Iran and elsewhere, and trends in liberation technology and government controls.

This is the public day of the Trainers Summit being organized by Tor Project, IREX, and Internews. The Level-Up Project, a digital security resource for trainers, will present. Attendees will have the opportunity to talk with LevelUp contributors, ask questions, try tools, and learn more.

El World Cafe es un espacio de reunión y encuentro donde los hispanohablantes pueden compartir conocimientos

Discutiremos cómo mejorar la incorporación y la retención de mujeres hispanohablantes en el ámbito del software libre (FLOSS), prestando especial atención a las comunidades

antivigilancia y anticensura.

4 de marzo: Seguridad Digital en la Sala de Prensa | 10:00 - 17:00

Esta jornada está dividida en dos sesiones. La sesión matutina está dirigida a periodistas y responsables de medios de comunicación. El

evento consistirá en una mezcla de talleres prácticos y conversaciones guiadas sobre los desafíos a los que se enfrentan los periodistas y sus organizaciones para abordar y gestionar los riesgos

que corren en el siglo XXI y proteger sus fuentes.

La sesión vespertina está dirigida a periodistas que quieran desarrollar buenas prácticas para proteger su trabajo en el mundo

digital y aprender a utilizar herramientas adecuadas. Puesto que cada vez más actividades periodísticas se desarrollan en el ámbito digital,

es necesario cultivar una cultura y prácticas para protegerlas frente a quienes buscan afectarlas o censurarlas.

4 de marzo: Mesa Redonda: El Estado de las Libertades en España | 18:00 - 20:00

No cabe duda de que vivimos en una democracia plenamente consolidada. Sin embargo ¿Cuál es el estado actual de las libertades España?

Por primera vez en 40 años desde la proclamación de la Constitución, surgen voces que denuncian un preocupante retroceso en el terreno de las libertades públicas. Planteamos un debate para analizar indicadores como la Ley Mordaza, el control de los medios de comunicación públicos y privados y otros temas de actualidad.

Una reflexión colectiva, impulsada en colaboración con la Unió de Periodistes Valencians, en la que participarán, entre otros:
