Circulatory System

Function• Circulate blood, nutrients and oxygen to the cells of
the body.• Removes waste from body• Regulates body temperature
![Page 3: Circulatory System](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062811/56815f6a550346895dce6e65/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
Structures• Heart • Veins• Capillaries• Arteries

Structures Con’t.• Heart – pumps blood to the body– Has 4 sections or chambers:• Right Atria – collects de-oxygenated blood (blue) from
the body via the vena cava• Right Ventricle – pumps de-oxygenated blood (blue) to
the heart via the pulmonary arteries• Left Atria – collects oxygenated (red) blood from the
lungs by way of the pulmonary veins• Left Ventricle – pumps the oxygenated blood (red) to
the body via the aorta

Note: When referring to the left and right side of the heart it is in respect to the body, not when you are looking at it.

• Arteries – blood vessels that carry oxygenated blood from the heart to the body(usually depicted as red)
• Veins – blood vessels that carry de-oxygenated blood from the body to the heart (usually depicted as blue)
• Capillaries – tiny blood vessels that connect veins to arteries(this is where nutrients, oxygen, and waste products diffuse into and out of the blood)

Parts of the Circulatory System
• Divided into 2 parts:– Pulmonary Circulation – takes blood from the
heart to the lungs and back– Systemic Circulation – takes blood to the body and
back

Respiratory System

Function• Supplies the blood with oxygen to be sent to
the cells of the body• Removes carbon dioxide from blood for exhalation
![Page 11: Circulatory System](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062811/56815f6a550346895dce6e65/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Structures• Mouth• Nose• Trachea - windpipe• Lungs– Bronchi – 2 tubes inside lungs that passes air to the alveoli– Alveoli – tiny air sacs that oxygenate the blood and release
CO2 (capillaries help here)
• Diaphram – a muscle that expands the lungs for inhalation (located under the rib cage)

Ticket-Out• Describe how
the Circulatory and Respiratory systems work together.
