Aschoff, Klotter, Wever.North-Holland Publishing Company - AmsterdamCircadian clocks are the central mechanisms that drive circadian rhythms. They consist of 3 major components: A central biochemical oscillator with a period of about twenty four hours that keeps time. Our internal circadian biological clocks, on the other hand, regulate the timing of periods of sleepiness and wakefulness throughout the day. The biological clocks that control circadian rhythms are groupings of interacting molecules in cells throughout the body.
