SASKATCHEWAN TAXPAYERS PROTECTED
FROM INFLATION
Saskatchewan residents will see an additional $25.2 million in annual tax savings as a result
of the indexation of the provincial income tax
system in 2012.
As a result, an individual taxpayer now pays no Saskatchewan income tax on his or her
first $18,075 of income, while a family of four
pays no income tax on their first $46,850 of income.
Indexation protects taxpayers from "bracket
creep", or the automatic increase in tax caused
by inflation and preserves the real value of personal income tax credits. For 2012, income
tax brackets and personal tax credit amounts
will increase by 2.8 per cent, which represents the annual average inflation rate from October
2010 through to September 2011.
"Making sure Saskatchewan's income tax
system is fully indexed to inflation each and every year helps to keep provincial taxes as
low as possible," Finance Minister Ken
Krawetz said. "It's part of the Saskatchewan
Advantage."
In 2008, the provincial government introduced
significant income tax reductions for all
Saskatchewan taxpayers through increased personal exemption amounts and low-income
tax credit enhancements.
In addition, Saskatchewan introduced the
Active Families Benefit in 2009 as a refundable income tax credit to rebate up to
$150 per child for cultural, recreational and
sports activity fees for children aged 6 to 14 (the age of eligibility is being expanded in
2012 to children 17 and under. And in 2011,
the Government again enhanced the personal
income tax exemption amounts.
When combined with indexation, a single person with $25,000 annual income will pay
$801 less in income tax in 2012 than in 2007.
A family of four with $50,000 combined
income will pay $2,595 less in 2012 compared to 2007 while a family of four with $75,000
combined income will pay $2,386 less.
"By the end of 2012, a family of four with $50,000 income will have saved more than
$10,000 through our government's income tax
reductions," Krawetz said. "Lower taxes are
the best way to make life more affordable for Saskatchewan families."
The income tax brackets, basic and spousal
credits, senior supplement, dependent child credit, age credit, disability-related credits,
medical expense credit and the Saskatchewan
Low-Income Tax Credit are all subject to
indexation.

River Ice calls Serve
as a Reminder taken from paNow.com
Prince Albert Police say some people are not
heeding the message about the dangers of the frozen North Saskatchewan River.
Police responded to two separate calls 15
minutes apart from each other on Monday afternoon. One involved three children aged 11
and 12 playing on the ice surface.
Fortunately the children were located by
officers and escorted home without incident, said Sgt. Kelly McLean with the Prince Albert
Police Service.
The police service and the Prince Albert Fire
Department have been communicating with the public since freeze up to stay off the river ice,
which has become more unstable with the
warm start to winter.
“I wouldn‟t be out on the ice, that‟s for sure," said battalion chief Barry Hayden.
“Because you never know how thick the ice is
going to be in different places."
McLean said they‟re not looking to charge people, but rather educate them about the
dangers of their actions.
“It‟s very, very difficult once somebody goes
under the ice. Obviously hypothermia sets very, very quickly. It‟s a tragedy waiting to
happen,” McLean said.
“This isn‟t new to our community. A mild day, the ice is right there the kids are living close to
river and unfortunately at times they‟ve made
bad decisions. “
“We just want to get that information out to the public so that people don‟t make those bad
decisions," McLean said.

know me. I am originally from Flying Dust First
Nation. I am married and have 5 young adult

annual basis.
After moving back home I became employed with Flying Dust as a family support worker for 7 years

(level 1), Social Services Core Training, Critical
Stress Management training (individual &

RESIDENTS ARE URGED TO ENSURE THEIR HEALTH CARDS
ARE VALID
Saskatchewan residents are being urged to contact Health Registration if they haven't
received the renewal stickers for their
Saskatchewan Health Services card. The
majority of Saskatchewan Health Services cards expired on December 31, 2011, and the
renewal stickers revalidate health cards to
December 31, 2014.
"The Saskatchewan Health Services card
confirms that a Saskatchewan resident is entitled to health coverage under the provincial
health insurance plan," Saskatchewan Health
Services Director of Health Registration Pat
Cambridge said. "Without a valid health card residents may not be able to continue receiving
insured health benefits."
Health card renewal packages containing
renewal stickers were mailed to Saskatchewan
residents in September 2011. While the success rate of reaching residents is more than 90 per
cent, there are always those who are missed
because they have not advised Saskatchewan Health of changes to their personal
circumstances such as address changes, moves
out of province or changes in marital status.
Residents who have not received their renewal stickers to date are asked to immediately
contact Health Registration Branch by mail at
100-1942 Hamilton Street, Regina, SK S4P

Second Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year B
Gospel John 1:35-42
The next day John again was standing with two of his disciples, 36and as he watched
Jesus walk by, he exclaimed, „Look, here is
the Lamb of God!‟ 37The two disciples heard him say this, and
they followed Jesus. 38When Jesus turned and
saw them following, he said to them, „What are you looking for?‟ They said to him,
„Rabbi‟ (which translated means Teacher),
„where are you staying?‟ 39He said to them,
„Come and see.‟ They came and saw where he was staying, and they remained with him that
day. It was about four o‟clock in the
afternoon.
40One of the two who heard John speak and followed him was Andrew, Simon Peter‟s
brother. 41He first found his brother Simon
and said to him, „We have found the Messiah‟ (which is translated Anointed).
42He brought Simon to Jesus, who looked at
him and said, „You are Simon son of John.
You are to be called Cephas‟ (which is translated Peter).
Thoughts on the Gospel
„The Gospel is about “calling”, in fact, about a second “calling”. It is about two men who are
already disciples of John the Baptist. John
points Jesus out to them, "Look! There is the
Lamb of God!" John knows that his role of leadership is temporary, that he is to yield to
the leadership of Jesus.
„The disciples begin - out of curiosity? - to go
after Jesus. Jesus turns round and asks them:
"What do you want?" Hear Jesus ask you that question today. Generally we tend to think that
we should be asking, “What does God want?”
But no, he also wants to know what we want.
The answer to that question is less for his benefit than for ours. Our answer will tell us
what our real priorities are with regard both to
God and the people and the world around us.
„What do we really want from life, from God?
It is not such an easy question to answer - but it
tells us where we really are. And it is a
question we will have to answer at different stages in our life as circumstances change.‟

SASKATCHEWAN TAXPAYERS PROTECTED
FROM INFLATION
Saskatchewan residents will see an additional $25.2 million in annual tax savings as a result
of the indexation of the provincial income tax
system in 2012.
As a result, an individual taxpayer now pays no Saskatchewan income tax on his or her
first $18,075 of income, while a family of four
pays no income tax on their first $46,850 of income.
Indexation protects taxpayers from "bracket
creep", or the automatic increase in tax caused
by inflation and preserves the real value of personal income tax credits. For 2012, income
tax brackets and personal tax credit amounts
will increase by 2.8 per cent, which represents the annual average inflation rate from October
2010 through to September 2011.
"Making sure Saskatchewan's income tax
system is fully indexed to inflation each and every year helps to keep provincial taxes as
low as possible," Finance Minister Ken
Krawetz said. "It's part of the Saskatchewan
Advantage."
In 2008, the provincial government introduced
significant income tax reductions for all
Saskatchewan taxpayers through increased personal exemption amounts and low-income
tax credit enhancements.
In addition, Saskatchewan introduced the
Active Families Benefit in 2009 as a refundable income tax credit to rebate up to
$150 per child for cultural, recreational and
sports activity fees for children aged 6 to 14 (the age of eligibility is being expanded in
2012 to children 17 and under. And in 2011,
the Government again enhanced the personal
income tax exemption amounts.
When combined with indexation, a single person with $25,000 annual income will pay
$801 less in income tax in 2012 than in 2007.
A family of four with $50,000 combined
income will pay $2,595 less in 2012 compared to 2007 while a family of four with $75,000
combined income will pay $2,386 less.
"By the end of 2012, a family of four with $50,000 income will have saved more than
$10,000 through our government's income tax
reductions," Krawetz said. "Lower taxes are
the best way to make life more affordable for Saskatchewan families."
The income tax brackets, basic and spousal
credits, senior supplement, dependent child credit, age credit, disability-related credits,
medical expense credit and the Saskatchewan
Low-Income Tax Credit are all subject to
indexation.

River Ice calls Serve
as a Reminder taken from paNow.com
Prince Albert Police say some people are not
heeding the message about the dangers of the frozen North Saskatchewan River.
Police responded to two separate calls 15
minutes apart from each other on Monday afternoon. One involved three children aged 11
and 12 playing on the ice surface.
Fortunately the children were located by
officers and escorted home without incident, said Sgt. Kelly McLean with the Prince Albert
Police Service.
The police service and the Prince Albert Fire
Department have been communicating with the public since freeze up to stay off the river ice,
which has become more unstable with the
warm start to winter.
“I wouldn‟t be out on the ice, that‟s for sure," said battalion chief Barry Hayden.
“Because you never know how thick the ice is
going to be in different places."
McLean said they‟re not looking to charge people, but rather educate them about the
dangers of their actions.
“It‟s very, very difficult once somebody goes
under the ice. Obviously hypothermia sets very, very quickly. It‟s a tragedy waiting to
happen,” McLean said.
“This isn‟t new to our community. A mild day, the ice is right there the kids are living close to
river and unfortunately at times they‟ve made
bad decisions. “
“We just want to get that information out to the public so that people don‟t make those bad
decisions," McLean said.
