Give us courage to change our minds, when that is needed. Let us be tolerant to the thoughts of others and receptive to such awareness as may come to us through them. May we be human channels through which love and compassion may reach the hearts and lives of those nearest to us.

Ruth McCalla Edwards

Attorney

Ruth McCalla Edwards is former chairperson of the Cincinnati Technical College Board of Trustees. She first was appointed to the board by Governor James A. Rhodes in 1977 and was reappointed by him in 1978 and 1981. In 1984, Governor Richard F. Celeste reappointed Mrs . Edwards to another term of office.

Mrs. Edwards has a distinguished career in the Cincinnati bar. After graduation from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 1974, she joined the Legal Aid Society of Cincinnati as a managing attorney and Reginald Heber Smith Fellow. She also has served as a staff attorney for the Hamilton County Public Defender Commission.

Besides her private law practice, Mrs. Edwards serves as an associate professor and program coordinator of the legal assisting/paralegal technology program in the University College of the University of Cincinnati.

Mrs. Edwards was named a YMCA Black Achiever in 1985. She is listed in Who's Who Among Black Americans and Who's Who in American Law. While in the College of Law she was president of the Student Bar Association and president of her freshman and junior classes.

The CTC trustee is an active member of the Association of Community College Trustees, serving as secretary of its central region's Minority Affairs Assembly. She serves on the board of directors of the Winton Hills Medical and Health Center and 4C-Comprehensive Community Child Care.

Roger W. W eseli

President, Good Samaritan Hospital

Roger W. W eseli has been a health care administrator in Cincinnati since he returned to his hometown in 1959 after receiving a master's degree in hospital administration from Northwestern University. He began his career at Good Samaritan Hospital as an administrative assistant, later became an administrator and vice president, and, in 1979, was named president.

Mr. Weseli holds leadership positions in several hospital and health organizations, including the American Hospital Association, the Ohio Hospital Association, the Greater Cincinnati Hospital Council and the Health Planning and Resource Development Association of the Central Ohio River Valley (CORVA). He is on the board of the Catholic Health Association, Mental Health Services West, Ohio League for Nursing and the Sisters of Charity Health Care Systems.

Mr. Weseli has earned the certification of Fellow of the American College of Hospital Administrators. He also was selected to the President's Association of the American Management Association.

The hospital president is listed in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in Health Care. He received the Award of Excellence in Management and a certificate of appreciation from the Ohio League for Nursing.

Charles W. Vaughan

President and General Manager, WCET/Channel 48

Few individuals have been more involved in the development and advancement of public television in the United States than Charles W . Vaughan. Beginning his career in public television only two years after WCET-TV 48, the first licensed non-commercial television station, signed ori the air in 1954, Mr. Vaughan has gone on to become involved in almost every facet of public television production, fund raising and administration.

In 1956, he began his career in administration as program director and assistant manager of WCET. Here he participated in the production of over one hundred different programs for the infant National Education Television System. (NET).

Mr. Vaughan assumed the title of program associate, science, for National Education Television in New York in 1960. He was responsible for more than 52 one-half hour programs yearly for national distribution, including eleven "Exploring the Universe" which featured Dave Garraway.

In 1965, Mr. Vaughan returned to Cincinnati to become director of communication arts at Xavier University and director of development at WCET. He was appointed president of WCET in 1967.

Mr. Vaughan' s contribution to public television is not only characterized by his leadership of local stations but also by his extensive career in state, regional and national public television organizations. He currently serves as a member of the board of the National Association of Public TV Stations and the Ohio Educational Broadcasting Commission.

Mr. Vaughan has received many honors during his career. Among them are the Corporation for Public Broadcasting Development Award, a certificate of appreciation from the Overseas Press Club and the Alfred P. Sloan Award.
