The initiative for more members to get involved in the color guard has already seen some success with two compatriots seeking to secure uniforms. If you have an interest, please contact compatriot Paul Wilke [[email protected]] who will help you in this endeavor. The Constitution Day Luncheon was lightly attended, but those who came were pleased with the “Serving Those Who Served” discussion about how we find and honor our patriot ancestors. Paul Wilke was awarded the first Patriot Grave Medal, followed by Jack Bredenfoerder and Mike Gunn. Three new members were installed totaling 12 for the month. Thanks again to all compatriots who have worked hard to keep our chapter interesting and rewarding. Fraternally and Patriotically, Michael B. Greetings Fellow Compatriots,

The month of September was favored with much Chapter activity, Honor Flight Return Posting of Colors,

Sept. 2nd, The Cincinnati Chapter meeting began with supper at 6:00, then many awards were presented. Eight new compatriots were inducted: Shaun and Conner Smith, descendants of Joshua Crooker; Daniel and Daniel II Schmitz, descendants of Thomas McNary; Robert Bowers, a descendant of Ward Spooner, Sr.; Jim and Daryl Poe, descendants of Edward Poe; and Ervin Chaney, a descendant of Aquilla Smith.

Sept. 12th, Compatriots Paul M. Wilke, Michael Gunn, Jack Bredenfoerder, Lee Wilkerson, Ken Carpenter and Gordon Stokely assisted the Turtle Creek DAR with their new member induction ceremony by presenting and posting the colors.

Sept. 17th, CCSAR President Michael Gunn and Chaplain Ken Carpenter attended the naturalization ceremony held on Constitution Day at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.. The program was officiated by the Honorable Stephanie K. Bowman, welcomed to the University by Dr. Catherine Bishop-Clark, Associate Dean. The Mayor of Hamilton, the

Honorable Patrick G. Moeller issued a proclamation welcoming the Court and declaring this Constitution Day a Day of Naturalization a ceremonious event in Hamilton, Ohio. Mr. Pinto, from Brazil, was naturalized at the Ceremony with 71 others from 39 countries.

Sept. 19th, There were 29 present at the Cincinnati Chapter Constitution Day Luncheon, to commemorate the signing of the Constitution of the United States of America. Three new members were inducted by President Michael B. Gunn; Howard J. Stebbins whose ancestor is Joseph Stebbins, and Byron & Richard Fowler, ancestor Elijah Wilmot. Compatriot Gunn also presented William Rybolt a Supplemental membership with Fredrick Dumbold as his new Ancestor.

The program was a description of NSSAR’s national Patriot Grave database and the Cincinnati Chapter’s process for “Serving those who’ve Served” honoring the Revolutionary War Soldiers and others who contributed to that war effort, including what goes into a Patriot Grave Marking Ceremony by the Cincinnati Chapter, with several practical examples.

The program ended with a presentation of Patriot Grave Medals by President Gunn to Paul M. Wilke and John H. Bredenfoerder, then by Paul Wilke to Michael Gunn.

Sept. 22nd, Compatriots Michael Blum and Michael Gunn posted colors and welcomed the 72 returnees from the All Women Honor Flight at 10:00 - 11:30 PM on Tuesday night. The ladies said the day was wonderful and that they were made to feel very special the whole trip. Welcome home, Veterans.

Sept. 25th, CCSAR President Michael Gunn and Chaplain Ken Carpenter attended the naturalization ceremony at the US District Court, Cincinnati. They greeted 49 new citizens who were naturalized from 48 different countries. The Honorable Beth A. Buchanan presided.

Sept. 26th, Ian Cunningham and Ken Carpenter are standing to the right of Abraham Lincoln in this group picture of those re-enactors who participated in the 2015 Patriot Fair in Mason, Ohio.

Seven Cincinnati Chapter members who assisted in the Howard Miller Flag Collection presentations and at the Cincinnati Chapter’s booth of weapons and artifacts owned by Paul Wilke were: Ken Carpenter, Ian Cunningham, Gary Duffield, Mike Gunn, Jeff Hartman, Shaun Smith and Gordon Stokely..

Sept. 28th, Compatriot Ian Cunningham was a guest of the Ripley – Lieutenant Byrd Chapter of the DAR in the Brown County Fair Parade. Guests of honor on the parade float were five U.S. military veterans. The parade is the kick-off event for the Brown County Fair, which is held in the last week of September. The weeklong event, known as the “Little State Fair”, is held at the Brown County Fairgrounds in George-town, the county seat and childhood home of Ulysses S. Grant, the 18th President of the United States.

Compatriot Cunningham has been actively engaged in recruiting new SAR members in the Adams, Brown, and Highland Counties in an effort to start a new chapter of the Ohio Society SAR in this southwest part of the state, and to develop strong ties with the local established DAR chapters.
