Your journey through the CIMA Qualification

The full CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accounting) Qualification comprises the CIMA Certificate in

Business Accounting and the CIMA Professional Qualification. You will need to pass both and provide three years

approved practical experience to qualify as a Chartered Management Accountant.

�CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting – your entry route to the CIMA Professional Qualification. Introduces you

to the concept of management accounting and overviews the fundamentals of business and accounting. Exemptions

may be available if you have studied a relevant qualification or degree.

�CIMA Professional Qualification – specialises in accounting for business and offers you a qualification that is

recognised by employers around the world. The Professional Qualification syllabus is split into three key areas:

• Operational level – you must pass three exams

• Management level – you must pass three exams

• Strategic level – you must pass three exams

• TOPCIMA – you must pass this exam based on a case study.

The awards issued at each level of the CIMA qualification are accredited in their own right and recognised

throughout the world. For example, The CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting is a stand-alone qualification that

also provides a strong introduction to the full CIMA Qualification.

This new syllabus is applicable starting with January 2010 and the first examination session based on it is May 2010.

The first CIMA stage

The CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting is ideal if

you are new to the world of business qualifications

because it offers a solid grounding in the basics of

management accounting, financial accounting and

business.

It is also a stepping stone towards the CIMA Professional

Qualification. It will introduce you to the concept of

management accounting and the quantitative analysis

and forecasting techniques used by Chartered

Management accountants. It will ensure you understand

the regulatory framework of accounting, how accounts

are prepared, the professional values and ethical

standards expected of accountants and the economic

environment in which organisations operate. Successful

completition of the CIMA Certificate in Business

Accounting will provide you with a route into many varied

business areas.

The are five exams comprising the CIMA

Certificate in Business Accounting that you

must successfully complete (or be exempt

from):

These are computer based assessments (CBAs). You are free to sit the papers in any order but BPP advise you

to sit paper C02 before you attempt C01 as understanding some of the C01 theory can be assisted by a basic

understanding of Financial Accounting. CIMA also recommended that you study either paper C03 or C04 early in

your studies.

On average, it should take you one year to complete the CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting, then you will

be awarded the CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting. This will enhance your CV and pave the way to

further your business career.

Your performance on the CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting is tested by Computer Based Assessment (CBA)

where you must score 50% to pass each paper. All CBAs are set and controlled by CIMA but can be set at BPP’s training centre. The regulations for and the contents of the assessments are strictly controlled by CIMA. You must have a CIMA ID

before booking a CBA. BPP Romania is a CIMA approved centre.

Certificate in Business Accounting Intensive Courses*Our CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting intensive courses are complete and integrate taught, revision and

There will be discussions of theoretical issues, focus on key syllabus learning outcomes and enhancing knowledge

base. When studying towards the CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting with BPP you will approach key subject

areas that you need to learn and understand and gain the key exam skills you need in order to pass the exams.

The next step is to practice on past exam questions and receive hints and tips on best exam techniques.

Introductory course**Introductory training during which we focus on major issues within a given paper. Theoretical elements are

supported by practical examples and exercises. The course lasts the average of three days.

Revision course**This is an interactive course at which participants solve examples of exam questions based on the knowledge

DORINA BADEA, ACCA qualified, built up a strong financial background working in successful

groups of companies such as Porsche Finance Group as CFO and Altex (Credex) Group as

CEO. She worked in the projects for setting-up various finance companies including a bank, an

insurance broker, a leasing and a consumer finance company by elaborating strategies and

monitoring performance during her more than 12 years of professional finance experience.

STUART WHENT has qualified as an ACA in UK. Stuart then worked in industry with Shepherd

Neame (Britain’s oldest brewery) as a Financial Accountant and Barclays as a Business Projects

Accountant gaining extensive experience in the audit profession and banking industry. Stuart has

been with BPP for 6 years and was previously Managing Director of BPP’s successful

Cambridge office before becoming Managing Director of BPP Romania in March 2009. Stuart

specializes in Financial Reporting and Audit.

JUAN GAMECHO graduated from the Cardiff Business School before beginning a career in

investment banking in the City of London. Having worked initially in structured finance and

subsequently in Corporate Finance of Hill Samuel Bank and NM Rothschild, he moved to

Romania in 1997 with Charterhouse Bank as country manager. In 1999 he joined the European

Bank of Reconstruction and Development in Romania. Juan has been working with BPP for a

number of years and specialises in management strategy.

Registering with CIMA

Key dates

Assuming you intend to move to the Managerial level of the CIMA qualification after completing the Certificate

in Business Accounting, we strongly advise you to consider the dates in the table below.

15 March 2010CIMA deadline for exam entry to Managerial level exams

1 March 2010You must complete all five papers from the Certificate by this date

February 2010BPP courses towards Managerial level commence

ExemptionsYou may be entitled to an exemption from one or

all of the Certificate in Business Accounting

papers if:

1. You hold an accountancy or business related

degree

2. You have successfully completed the

Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT)

qualification

3. You hold the Open University (OU) Certificate

in Accountancy.

All exemptions are granted by CIMA and

therefore you must wait until CIMA reviews your

previous qualification and advises you of your

exemption status before commencing your

studies. Strategic, Managerial and TOPCIMA

levels require an excellent understanding of

Certificate level theory so you should carefully

consider attending a course if you need to brush

up your skills, even if you hold an exemption.

The first thing you should do is register with CIMA. If you

are registering for the first time, make sure you provide

them with a copy of the certificate and transcript of your

highest level qualification. They will then advise if you are

eligible for exemptions which will determine which paper

you need to sit next.

Booking a course with BPP does not register you

with CIMA.

The CIMA courses will take place at the BPP Professional Education office, located in the centre of Bucharest, in

Romana Square. Our office has six comfortable, fully equipped training rooms as well as refreshment facilities,

which are for the exclusive use of BPP students. Our location does not generate an additional costs for our

clients.
