Juror: Wynn Bauer, Gallery Assistant, The Clay Studio, Philadelphia, PA; and co-owner of FELT + FAT, LLC, ceramic production. Wynn's passion for ceramics started when he was four taking classes at local art centers in his hometown in Chester County. that passion intensified during buying trips to Asia for his family's import business where he witnessed a rich ceramic history. After studying architecture for a year at Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI, he listened to his heart and transferred into the ceramics department and graduated with a BFA. Shortly after he received a scholarship to live in Jingdezhen, China and study, immersed in the "porcelain capitol of the world", before returning to Pennsylvania and discovering The Clay Studio in 2010. Since then, ceramics has become his life, producing, teaching, selling, and continuously learning more.

Juror’s Statement: “This contest seeks to promote excellence in ceramic achievement among high school students in New Jersey, while at the same time demonstrating the diversity of works being created in this media. Therefore, it is open to all original works whose primary medium is

ceramic, ranging from functional to sculptural. Although craftsmanship will undoubtedly play a significant role in the selection of the prizes, pieces will be judged ultimately on artistic merit and creativity. Recognizing all jurying is subjective, the work will be judged on technical competence, artistic merit, and creativity.”

Awards: At the discretion of the judge a number of pieces will be selected as outstanding and will be included in a special exhibit, May 1-9, 2015 at The Clay Studio, Philadelphia. (Typically, eight students are selected for 1st place and twelve are selected for 2nd place). A closing reception for these winning students, their families, art teachers, and administrators will take place on Saturday, May 9, 2015, 2:00-3:00pm at The Clay Studio. Students and art teachers must be present for the entire reception and must remove student artwork at 3:00pm. All winners will receive ribbons, and certificates/plaques. Participating art teachers will receive 6 professional development hours. All participating teachers will be invited to participate in a workshop given by a renowned ceramic artist on April 18th during the jurying of Clay In Mind and take away techniques to use in his/her classroom. The workshop will be given at Northern Burlington High School in room 209. At the time of this mailing we are involved in a broad search of an artist who will provide all teachers with a creative professional development opportunity in ceramics! Please look for a follow up communication from me regarding the artist and exact time (This workshop replaces the workshop for winning students and their teachers held in the summer. However, all other prizes remain the same).

Transporting entries to NBCRHS is the responsibility of the individual art teacher. Art teachers will be assigned an exhibit area and will be responsible for setting up their students’ artwork by 9:00am, April 18th. Doors will open at 8:30am. Entry forms will be used as the exhibit label after the jurying takes place. Art teachers will receive exhibit labels and an exhibit sticker to affix to the piece for blind jurying in the mail prior to the exhibit date. Please box each entry SEPARATELY using suitable packing for transporting. Pack the piece deep within the box safely, so that no area of the artwork is near the perimeter of the box, especially the top. This is necessary in the event that the boxes need to be stacked when storing/transporting. Winning entries will be retained in their original packaging for exhibit at The Clay Studio and all artwork is to be collected by the individual student/art teacher at the end of the closing reception (3:00pm) on May 9, 2015, at The Clay Studio, Philadelphia.

Please note: Although every measure will be taken to insure the safety of the artwork while on exhibit at NBC, and while being transported to and exhibited at the Clay Studio, NBC, The Clay Studio, and/or any person assisting with this exhibition are not insured for theft, loss, or damage and therefore will not be held responsible for any monetary reimbursement. Parental release forms and waivers will be required and will be mailed to the sponsoring art teacher (along with exhibit labels) in March, 2015.
