Hi, Im Cian. I’m a 3rd yr student studying in Product Design from Galway. Ireland

When I’m not behind a computer screen you’ll find me either in the gym, on a pitch or at a chess board.

Through my studies, I have worked on many individual and team design projects which have thought me a great deal in improving my Design Skills. My favourite step in the Design Process is the Research. It gives me the chance to really connect with people, step into their shoes and identify the core roots of their problems.

THE COMPANYUhuru Design is a furniture design firm based in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Established in 2004, founders Jason Horvath and Bill Hilgendorf started designing and building custom high-end furniture with reclaimed materials that placed Uhuru at the forefront of New American Design.

UHURU DESIGN PROCESS Our focus is designing products and environments that add to a greater good. This is particularly evident in our narrative design process, which highlights the creative reuse of storied and naturally weathered materials and inspiration drawn from our Brooklyn surroundings.

My Duties

I worked as a CAD Techniian. I worked on multiple large scale projects for a range clients including but not limited to, Krispy Kreme Blancherstown, NUIG, UCD and Coosan N.S. Athlone. From these experiences I have developed a varied and in depth knowledge of a plethora of Design and Manufacturing Processes.

Some of My Work

Larkin Engineering has been a leader in the Steel Fabrication and Street Furniture markets since 1986. Initially Larkins Engineering entered the street furniture market he started fabricating Litter bins and it has since grown to be the market leader in the street furniture market in Ireland with a vast range of robust well designed street furniture

including Bollards, Bicycle shelters & Outdoor seating.

ESB Research ProjectBreakdown of the Brief

1) Identify a new opportunity for a “cool product”, or service, which could be brought to market by ESB.

2)Understand Gen Z’s needs and wants, and focus your research in one specfic area adjacent to energy.

3) Examine some of the assumptions about Gen Z and determine whether they’re supported by data.

INTERVIEWS

ANALYSIS

FINDINGSProcessFollowing our breakdown of the brief, the next clear step was to get a better understanding of Gen Z. We conducted semi-structured interviews with the aid of a Topic Guide to keep the conversation on course. We then anaylised the data gathered to generate findings.

GEN Z ARE THE ALWAYS ON GENERATION

THEY ARE UNAWARE OF THEIR ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND FEEL AS THOUGH THEY TAKE ELECTRICITY FOR GRANTED.

THEY DON’T SEE ESB AS A COMPANY FOR THEM.

THEY ARE ONLY WILLING TO CHANGE THEIR CONSUMPTION HABITS IF IT IS CONVIENT FOR THEM.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Need a thoughtless and convenient way to reduce their Energy

consumption,

as they are unwilling to radically change or inconvience themselves but ultimately do care about the
