Greetings and Salutations unto the populace of the Barony of Coeur d'Ennui and the Canton of Axed Root
We hope this missive finds all warm, healthy, and happy.
Winter is upon us and the time of Yule and celebrations passed. Before us lies a new year, full of possibilities and promise.
We have grown, coming together in the past year to show the Society and Kingdom our best as hosts and friends. Events were held and camaraderie enjoyed, feasting and celebrating with those we choose as family. We have succeeded and should take pride in what we have accomplished, but now is the time to move forward and continue, to become better at what we are already good at and to find new things to accomplish, to grow, both as a group and as individuals within the Society
In the coming weeks and months there are many events to attend and new friends to meet. By the time you read this We have had our own Winter Solstice event, Twelfth Night and the Coronation of a new King and Queen. Ahead lies opportunity, both to make new friends and to cement the friend-ships that already exist. We would encourage all to attend events held in the Kingdom in the coming months, such as the Clothiers Seminar in Cum an Iolar, Winter War Maneuvers in Mag Mor and Chieftains in Three Rivers. All these are wonderful events to go to, participate and learn. We hope the coming year is as bounteous and fruitful as was the past and that all continue it health and happi-ness.
Be safe in your travels and find joy and happiness in the challenges to come
Yours in Service,
Cian and Tatiana Baron and Baroness of Coeur d'Ennui
Issue - 1st Quarter, 2017
Greetings From The Ink Well
I am Baroness Winnifred d’Artois and I am your new Chronicler.
Each quarter will see a new issue of the Boar’s Snore. I would appreciate any and all arti-cles, artwork, tidbits of information AND ideas from anyone. Please contact me at [email protected] if you have things you’d like to put in our newsletter. 2017 Publishing Dates will be January 19, April 20, July 20, and October 19. Anything you wish to be put in
the Snore is due a full two weeks prior to the publish date. During “off” months I will still be making the baro-nial calendar available along with any information our Baronage or Seneschal wish to convey in the form of a one or two page notice.
In addition to publishing duties, I will also be taking on the task of keeping you informed of meeting changes and goings on with the help of Their Excellencies and our other officers. Changes to meeting times, locations, dates will be posted to Facebook. IF YOU ARE NOT ON FACEBOOK please please PLEASE email me with your email address. I will add you to my personal, “notification by email” listing. If you wish...feel free to include multiple addresses.
I look forward to working with you for the good of our fair Barony!
In Service,
Baroness Winnifred
From Your Seneschal: Hello populace!
Your seneschal here to make some quick announcements. We are discussing this stuff in the meetings as well but
I'd like to hit the high points.
#1) We are re-evaluating the way the meetings actually work. We are leaning towards doing away with an official
separate officer's meeting. A&S Night is being held on the first meeting of the month and the populace business
meeting is being held on the third meeting of the month, with officers requested to be at that one (or let me know
if there is anything to report and I can announce it). We'd like any input if there is a better way to do this. These
actual meetings should be brief and allow people to get enough fighting in afterwards.
#2) We are re-evaluating the weekly meeting night (A&S meeting, populace meeting, and fighter practice) itself.
Currently, they are held on Thursdays. We have a survey monkey survey out sitting on the Baronial Facebook
page. We are having some issues with the Baronial website but we should have it fixed shortly and info will be up
there as well when we can.
#3) We have some officer openings. Minister of A&S is open and we'd love if someone was interested in filling
this position.
#4) We are trying to get the meeting minutes up and posted. Eventually, we'll have them on the Baronial web page
for reference. Until then, we will try and get them posted in the Facebook group as well. We'll formalize a policy
for that but don't have one yet.
Thanks,
Cisco
From Your Knight’s Marshal: Greetings! Even during the cold of winter the Barony's fighters are still continuing to hone their skills at weekly practices. While we do not have our practice site every week this winter we do have it every week pos-sible. We are also starting to incorporate Cut &Thrust activities into our practices so feel free to bring out your toys and join us. Practices are on Thursday nights from 6:30 until around 9:00. The schedule for our fighter practices is as follows:
January 26 February 2, 9, 16 and 23 March 23 and 30 April 6
Gulf Wars is coming up and that means Calontir's army needs to be ready to take the field. Winter War Ma-neuvers is coming up on February 18 and will be a great time to come out to train with the army. A long day of drills and training is planned and there will be a ton of fighting to be had.
Also, in order to help get our fighters prepared for war the War College has created a new website with all sorts of useful information including training drills and how to fight in a shield wall. That information can be found at: war council.calontir.org.
Also of note is that our regional armored combat marshal, Sir Yoshimitsu, will be stepping down from that position. Lord Zachariah MacDonald will be taking over.
In Service,
Lord Arnsfast

Winter War Maneuvers
Dreamed of marching with the Calontir Army at war but not certain where you’d fit in during the battle? Well here’s your chance to train and learn from some of the best.
Melee training, shield wall training, usually some specialty weapons training…
Be sure to check out the flyer for more info!
I’m certain there will be someone from Coeur d’Ennui’s unit going to Winter War Maneuvers...post for a ride!
Chieftains: Always a Good Time
This is a great event any year you go. This year, witness the investiture of a new Baron and Baroness. There are many classes to choose from and fighting all day long. Feasts are usually an event unto themselves and I see they’re having a “Mongolian Wrestling Spectacular” during feast as well. Surely a must see!
In addition to the event, if you’ve never been to St. Louis...talk to me...I can point you to all kinds of great things to do and see.
Be certain to try out a St. Louis favorite, Gooey Butter Cake!
Clothier’s Seminar
Want to learn some basics of making garb? Just about any aspect of garb? Then Clothier’s Seminar is for you. And BONUS! It’s only a couple hours away!
The “Walk Through History” that happens right around lunch is pretty neat. You get to ogle all kinds of peri-od costume from the simple to the absolute, elaborately fantastical!
It’s worth it. Try it out!

Spot The Marginalia What is Marginalia? Medieval scribes, eyes tired from overwork and
dim lighting, hands tired of constant writing, pens that split, ink that
spills, often recorded their frustrations in small script in the margins of
their carefully penned works. Far fewer, but still some recorded the
beauty of the day, the brightness of sun, or the wonders of nature. All
of these little wisps of text are called Marginalia.
Each Quarterly Boar’s Snore will contain one such wisp of text. It’s
just a little fun hidden here and there...but I hope it brings a smile.
