True LoveBy Joyce Nitsche

On introduction to the game of ChessFor me it held a rather small appealThe Masters of the Game I must confessConfused me; why such an interest and zeal?

One day a lady, dear to me, my TwinPresented me the challenge of a gameWith confidence I thought that I could winHer notions of success were just the same The more I played the more I found she wonEventually, I thought 'Why do I always lose'?'twould be more fun, if when the game was doneI could just once be in the winners shoes

One day to my delight, I won the gameAnd now, in love with Chess, I'm not the same

Joyous PursuitsBy Joyce Nitsche It was a sunny summer dayOld garden shoes now led the wayI knelt beside the flower bedMy flowers, I knew, were all well fedBut still there was attention neededThis flower bed must now be weeded I plunged my spade into the groundAnd then it was I knew I’d foundA form of life, I saw it squirmIt was a very frightened worm Aware that some might call me foolI gently moved away my toolMy joy of gardening, I now could seeMight translate into tragedyFor forms of life beneath the soilWhich from my gardener’s tool recoil One’s joy or pleasure could ruin a lifeAsk any wayward husband’s wifeMy happiness can only beWhen nothing’s hurt because of me.

Reenacting our favorite clue from Reverse Charades – the ice breaker from our first evening together where we all repeatedly collapsed in laughter!
