Of the 17 students, 7 have mild to severe ADHD. S – State Objective My first grade students will be able to categorize the months of the year by season by making a poster of a particular season and attaching the names of the months to each. They will categorize them correctly by the end of the week with 100% accuracy. S – Select Methods, Media, & Material My method is to use visual, hands-on learning, along with interaction with their peers. I will turn part of it into a game for students with ADHD. The materials will include poster boards, Velcro backed cards to attach to the poster board, and decorating materials for posters. The cards will simply say the name of a month. U – Utilize Media & Materials In order to learn the months of the year, my students will categorize the months by season. The students will be split into four groups where each group will be required to make a poster for a season (spring, summer, fall, winter). After the posters are made, they will spend the week organizing the months onto the posters with cards attached to Velcro. It will be turned into a game for the students who have ADHD. Those with visual learning abilities will benefit from the poster, as well as hands-on learners. This project is suitable for students of all learning styles. R – Require Learner Participation

A – Analyze Learners

My first grade, special education class consists of 10 boys and 7 girls. 70% of the students are white, 20% are African-American, and 10% are Hispanic. Of the 17 students, 7 have mild to severe ADHD.

S – State Objective

My first grade students will be able to categorize the months of the year by season by making a poster of a particular season and attaching the names of the months to each. They will categorize them correctly by the end of the week with 100% accuracy.

S – Select Methods, Media, & Material

My method is to use visual, hands-on learning, along with interaction with their peers. I will turn part of it into a game for students with ADHD. The materials will include poster boards, Velcro backed cards to attach to the poster board, and decorating materials for posters. The cards will simply say the name of a month.

U – Utilize Media & Materials

In order to learn the months of the year, my students will categorize the months by season.

Each student will participate in the activities daily to receive credit at the end of the week.

E – Evaluate and Revise

As students begin the project, I will observe their work and see how much they are retaining. I will continue to evaluate them each day as they work, adjusting the approaches as needed to suit the needs of the students. After the project is complete, I will continue to go back and review with the students to see if they really understood the material from the lesson.
