The Sandy Erickson Race for Christian Education benefiting the Greater Collegedale School System is Sunday, Nov. 4. The Kids Fun Run (1 mile) starts at 1:30 p.m. for pre K - 2nd grade and at 2:00 p.m. for the 5K race (3.2 miles) for grades 3-12 and adults. Meet at Collegedale Adventist Middle School (CAMS).
The race proceeds benefit the school system’s Worthy Student Fund which benefits students who need financial assistance to attend one of the schools in the school system.
Register at www.sandyerickson-funrun.com. Earlybird registra-tion fee is $20. The race can only accommodate 600 runners, including students.
To donate, go to www.sandyer-icksonfunrun.com and click on the donate link, or you may sponsor a runner from one of the GCSS schools. Student information will be available in early October.
The race is named after Sandy Erickson a beloved first grade teacher who taught for over twenty years at A.W. Spalding. When diagnosed in 2008 with Lou Gehrig’s Disease, Mrs. Erickson maintained her cheery attitude and sense of humor, ex-emplifying Christ’s selflessness.
For many years the decorative theme of her classroom was hot air balloons. Students in the middle school and academy were impacted by her kind-ness. The last class she taught was challenged to design a logo for this race in her honor. The race logo was picked from that group.g
