Pastor’s Message

HE IS RISEN! HE IS RISEN INDEED!

Not simply for one morning a year, but for every time the sun rises to present us once again with the opportunity to serve our God and love our neighbor.

HE IS RISEN! HE IS RISEN INDEED!

Not just for the happy times, but even for the sad times when troubles mount and multiply. For the empty tomb proclaims that there is always hope.

HE IS RISEN! HE IS RISEN INDEED!

Not just for the lucky and the ‘good’ folk, but even for the downtrodden and the ‘bad’. For the sacrifice of his death was for all, and so is the gift of reconciliation and life.

HE IS RISEN! HE IS RISEN INDEED!

Not only way back when in a far-off place called Judea, but also here and now in a close-at-hand place called Missouri, and even closer to home in our hearts.

HE IS RISEN! HE IS RISEN INDEED!

Rejoice! His life is for you and for me. His love is for all the world. HE IS RISEN! HE IS ALIVE! ALLELUIA! In Him, Bill Vincent

The Presbyterian Woman

Churchwide Gathering

Scheduled for this August in St. Louis has

been canceled. The gathering is now being

planned to be a ‘Virtual’ event and details will

be out soon. Even though PPC no longer has

an active PW group, we are all Presbyterian

Women and a part of the larger church. We

are connected to women across the county,

the state, the U.S., and the world. The

women of Pacific Presbyterian Church have

always been strong in their faith, supporting

the church, and supporting mission. Thank

you ladies for all your hard work over the

years! Keep it up!

Cheryl Rainey

Thank you to Nancy Watson for leading the March Book Club discussion on the book AN ALTAR IN THE WORLD by Barbara Brown Taylor! I think we all agreed that there was much to reflect upon and be challenged by in this book.

We chose the book THE LAST LECTURE by Randy Pausch for our April selection....

THE LAST LECTURE by Randy Pausch

A lot of professors give talks titled "The Last Lecture." Professors are asked to consider their demise and to ruminate on what matters most to them. And while they speak, audiences can't help but mull the same question: What wisdom would we impart to the world if we knew it was our last chance? If we had to vanish tomorrow, what would we want as our legacy?

When Randy Pausch, a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon, was asked to give such a lecture, he didn't have to imagine it as his last, since he had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. But the lecture he gave--"Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams"--wasn't about dying. It was about the importance of overcoming obstacles, of enabling the dreams of others, of seizing every moment (because "time is all you have...and you may find one day that you have less than you think"). It was a summation of everything Randy had come to believe. It was about living.

In this book, Randy Pausch has combined the humor, inspiration and intelligence that made his lecture such a phenomenon and given it an indelible form. It is a book that will be shared for generations to come.

"We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand." --Randy Pausch

What is Per Capita?

Per Capita is a fundamental way in which all of the nearly 10,000 congregations and mid councils of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) connect, participate and share in the work of the wider church. Per capita is the primary source of funding for the Office of the General Assem-bly, and is how Presbyterians mutually and equitably share the costs of coming together to discern the Spirit’s leading for the future. : It is how Presbyterians are trained to become better ruling elders, teaching elders and deacons, and ministers. : It is how Presbyterians are helped to discern God’s call in their lives. : It is how Presbyterians participate in the life of the wider church by serving on General Assembly committees and commissions, regardless of dis-tance or financial resources. : It is how Presbyterians participate in the life of the Church uni-versal as we commit ourselves to work and live in fellowship with “all persons in every na-tion” (Book of Order, G-4.0101) All Presbyterians are called to take part in the ecclesiastical and administrative work shared by the whole church though per capita giving. The annual rate is a per-member apportionment that is assessed biennially by the General Assembly. (Book of Order, G-3.0106) All congregations — large and small — are encouraged to partici-pate, either through an annual budget item or through a special direct appeal to their congre-gations. If you would like to contribute to Per Capita, make check for $32 for each church member, payable to Pacific Presbyterian Church. Feel free to mail or place check in Sunday collection. (please note PerCapita in memo line),

The carpet and cushions in the sanctuary were cleaned on 3/31. Window frames have been painted on the White House and sanctuary and the lawn will be mowed for the first time next week.

Help is needed on the grounds! The Church Clean up day is scheduled for 4/17 at 9am. Bring your lawn tools, gloves and a mask to wear while inside the buildings and outside, when social distancing is not possible. Hope to see you on the 17th! Operations Committee

from your church that you would like to share with the group!

NEXT, we will look into the future of the beauty and wonder of the State of Missouri with Jody

Miles, from Earth’s Classroom, located in Rosebud, MO. This environmental organization invites

children and adults to participate in a hands on learning experience that helps them understand the

world in which they live. Jody will speak on Missouri’s unique ecology and women’s field science

research.

The offering will go to help fund programs at Earth’s Classroom. Please join us at this West Cluster

Presbyterian Women event and bring your friends and family to celebrate Spring in the West

Cluster!

join us for this event! Depending on where we are with vaccines and COVID-19, there is a possibility

of holding this as a Zoom event! We will continue to keep you informed.
