“I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit,

because without me you can do nothing.” In today’s Gospel of John, Jesus’ call for us to glorify the Father by bearing fruit and becoming disciples is clear. The way we do this is by remaining united with Jesus, the true vine, and the Father who is the vine grower. Stay the course is essentially Jesus’ message! He will always remain in us. Ours is the call to remain in him and bear luscious fruit for the world. Ours is the consolation that we do not have to do anything on our own. In fact, we cannot do anything without the true vine. Bearing fruit - and more fruit - requires pruning. The pruning tool of the Father-vine grower is the Son's word. Allowing this word to shape us brings forth a life-giving relationship with Jesus (like a branch that is nourished on a vine) that assures abundant and good fruit. Five times we are told to bear fruit; Eight times we are told to remain in Jesus. How many times, then, must we be shaped by the word? The Second Reading makes very concrete how we remain in Jesus: by keeping his commandment of love in deed and truth!

This week we begin the month of May – dedicated to our Blessed Mother. In honor of Mary we will have a month of “Wednesdays” in which we will recite the Rosary on May 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, each evening at 7:30pm in the Church. Please bring your family, your friends and your prayer intentions as we gather together as a faith community to celebrate our Mother Mary during this special time of May. And, we will continue our celebration with refreshments immediately following in the Parish Center!

Next weekend we will celebrate the Sacrament of the First Eucharist with our second-grade children at the following Masses: Saturday, May 5th, 5pm, and Sunday, May 6th, 9am, 10:30am, and 12 noon. Please keep these children in your prayers as they have been preparing all year long for this special day in their life and are so excited they will be receiving Jesus for the first time! And thank you to their parents, Godparents, and all their teachers who have been by their sides along this special journey.

Please mark your calendar that Ascension Thursday (Holy Day of Obligation) and Mother’s Day are also just around the corner. Our Mass schedule for Ascension Thursday will be: Vigil Mass, Wednesday, May 9th at 7:30pm; Thursday, May 10th, 8am, 12noon, and 7:30pm (Polish). On Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 13th, we will celebrate all Mothers starting off with a Breakfast for Mothers and their families from 8am -12 noon. At the 10:30am Mass we will crown and honor our Blessed Mother. All First Eucharist children are invited to join in procession wearing their Communion outfits (photo for Bulletin) and bring any religious gifts they received to be blessed at this Mass. And, there will be a wonderful Bake Sale sponsored by the Polish Club outside the Parish Hall from 8am-12noon as well! God Bless you all. Have a wonderful and safe week. Fr. Jacek

FAITH FORMATION

FIVE WEDNESDAYS FOR MARY MAY 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 – 7:30pm

IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CHURCH

What if there was a prayer that could change your life, strengthen the family, bring peace to the world, convert entire nations, and win the salvation of souls? Would you put aside 15-20 minutes to say it? Well, the Holy Rosary is considered to be that prayer!

The Rosary is a powerful prayer of intercession to our Blessed Mother. We ask her to bring our prayers to her Divine Son and plead for His aid. We bring our Rosary intentions to Mary with the hope that our request will be answered.

Bring your family, your friends and your prayer intentions as we gather together as a faith

community to celebrate during the month of May! (No experience is needed! Extra Rosaries will be available.)

Refreshments to follow in the Parish Center!

FIVE REASONS TO PRAY THE ROSARY

SAVE YOUR SOUL "If you say the Rosary faithfully until death, I do assure you that, in spite of the gravity of your sins 'you shall receive a never-fading crown of glory.' Even if you are on the brink of damnation, even if you have one foot in hell, even if you have sold your soul to the devil … sooner or later you will be converted and will amend your life and will save your soul, if -- and mark well what I say-- if you say the Holy Rosary devoutly every day until death for the purpose of knowing the truth and obtaining contrition and pardon for your sins." -St. Louis de Montfort from The Secret of the Rosary

SOLVE PROBLEMS “The Most Holy Virgin in these last times in which we live has given a new efficacy to the recitation of the Rosary to such an extent that there is no problem, no matter how difficult it is, whether temporal or above all spiritual, in the personal life of each one of us, of our families…that cannot be solved by the Rosary. There is no problem, I tell you, no matter how difficult it is, that we cannot resolve by the prayer of the Holy Rosary.” - Sister Lucia dos Santos, Fatima seer

PROMOTE PEACE "The Rosary is a powerful weapon to put the demons to flight and to keep oneself from sin… If you desire peace in your hearts, in your homes, and in your country, assemble each evening to recite the Rosary. Let not even one day pass without saying it, no matter how burdened you may be with many cares and labors." -Pope Pius XI

BLESSINGS FOR YOUR CHILDREN “Do not cease praying for your children; God's grace can touch a hardened heart. Commend your children to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. When parents pray the Rosary, at the end of each decade they should hold the Rosary aloft and say to her, ‘With these beads bind my children to your Immaculate Heart,’ she will attend to their souls." - St. Louise de Marillac

PRAY WITH HEAVEN "When you pray ‘Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners now...’ the Blessed Mother comes instantly to your side to pray with you. And she does not come alone. She brings angels with her. And not just one or two for

she is the Queen of Angels, so choirs of angels come with her. And she and Jesus are joined at the heart and cannot be separated so she brings Jesus with her. And Jesus cannot be separated from the Trinity so He brings the Father and the Holy Spirit with Him. And where the Holy Trinity is all of creation is and you are surrounded by such beauty and light as you cannot imagine in this life." - Father Gabriel Amorth, Chief Exorcist of the Vatican

FAITH FORMATION

FEAST OF ST. JOSEPH THE WORKER MONDAY, MAY 1

The Feast of St. Joseph the Worker was established by Pope Pius XII in 1955 in order to Christianize the concept of labor and give to all workmen a model and a protector. By the daily labor in his shop, offered to God with patience and joy, St. Joseph provided for the necessities of his holy spouse

and of the Incarnate Son of God, and thus became an example to all laborers. "May Day" has long been dedicated to labor and the working man. It falls on the first day of the month that is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Pope Pius XII expressed the hope that this feast would accentuate the dignity of labor and would bring a spiritual dimension to labor unions. It is eminently fitting that St. Joseph, a working man who became the foster-father of Christ and patron of the universal Church, should be honored on this day.

STS. PHILIP AND JAMES WEDNESDAY, MAY 3

The Apostle Philip was one of Christ's first disciples, called soon after his Master's baptism in the Jordan. The fourth Gospel gives the following detail: "The next day Jesus was about to leave for Galilee, and He found Philip. And

Jesus said to him: Follow Me. Philip was from Bethsaida, the town of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael, and said to him: We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and the Prophets wrote, Jesus the Son of Joseph of Nazareth. And Nathanael said to him: Can anything good come out of Nazareth? Philip said to him: Come and see" (John 1:43ff).

St. James the Less, a brother of the Apostle Jude, was of Cana of Galilee. He is the author of one of the Catholic Epistles in the New Testament. He was favored by an appearance of the Risen Christ (I Cor. 15:7). After the dispersion of the Apostles he was made Bishop of Jerusalem. He was visited by St. Paul (Gal. 1:19). He spoke after Peter at the meeting of the Apostles (Acts 15:13). When he refused to deny the Divinity of Christ, the Jews cast him down from the terrace of the temple and clubbed him to death.

FIRST EUCHARIST WEEKEND OF MAY 5-6

Next weekend our second- graders will be receiving their First Eucharist at the Saturday, 5 pm Vigil, and Sunday, 9 am, 10:30am and 12 noon Masses.

Please keep them in your prayers and welcome their visiting family and friends to our Parish on this joyous occasion!

CROWNING OF OUR BLESSED MOTHER, SUNDAY, MAY 13, 10:30am MASS

O’ Mary! We crown thee with blossoms today, Queen of the Angels, Queen of the May

Join us with our First Eucharist children on Sunday, May13th, Mother’s Day, at the 10:30am Mass as they join in procession to honor and crown our Blessed Mother. They are invited to wear their Communion outfits, and also bring any religious gifts they received, which Fr. Jacek will bless at this Mass. May is a special time of prayer to our Blessed Mother and what better day to show our affection and devotion to Jesus’ Mother on this day when we celebrate and give thanks to all our Mothers!
