What is your image of God, and where do you go when you are looking for God? Do you go to Church in this celebration of Sunday Eucharist? Do you find God in the mystery of the Eucharist or in the solitude of Eucharistic Adoration? Perhaps you find God in natures Cathedral – by the sea, on the mountaintop, along the canal path, in a park? The beauty of Gods creation surrounds us. Some people find God in the beauty of music – at the opera or listening to our parish choirs. Other people find God in the wonder of the sciences, in the mystery of the universe. As we look forward to our Vacation Bible School this summer, it is most inspiring and life-giving to be among our parish youth. They are the bearers of Gods presence before our very eyes. May we love them and fashion them after the mind and heart of Jesus. Todays Scriptures speak to two significant paths where we are to go to find God. In the first Scripture reading today from the Book of Deuteronomy, Moses said there is no need to fly to the sky or sail the sea, Gods law and Gods presence is already in our hearts. The journey inward is a privileged component of our spiritual journey. The spirit of Christ Jesus is deep within the heart and soul of each one of us. May we always experience God in the deep recesses of our hearts. We never walk alone. Our God goes with us. In todays Gospel, Jesus invites us to find the presence of God in one another. In the parable of the Good Samaritan, we are taught to seek out the presence of God not only in those we love, respect, and admire but also – and especially – in the poor and the victimized. But in the Gospel parable, the Samaritan made no excuses; rather, he was fully available to help the neighbor in need. He showed himself to be a friend to the man who had been victimized. With mercy, he tended the man; with great generosity, he provided for his care. Jesus has invited us to find Him there. Where there are poor, hungry, thirsty, naked, homeless and otherwise victimized, Jesus is within them, waiting to be noticed, waiting to be nurtured, waiting to be loved. As we reflect upon todays Gospel, we need to ask ourselves: Who is my neighbor? Perhaps we also need to ask: Who is not my neighbor? Do we get a free pass on not witnessing to the love of Jesus to anyone who walks the face of the earth? When we minister to Gods poor ones, we minister to God. Therefore, in our ministering, we must be aware that we are touching the very God who made them and us. Our words must be gentle, respectful, and kind. Our attitude must be merciful, but not one of pity. Nor are we to judge, criticize or assign blame. What is your image of God, and where do you go when you are looking for God? Todays Scriptures invite us to pray over beautiful ways that our God is revealed to us. Have a Blessed Day. What is your image of God, and where do you go when you are looking for God?

Do you go to Church in this celebration of Sunday Eucharist? Do you find God in the mystery of the Eucharist or in the solitude of Eucharistic Adoration?

Perhaps you find God in nature’s Cathedral – by the sea, on the mountaintop, along the canal path, in a park? The beauty of God’s creation surrounds us. Some people find God in the beauty of music – at the opera or listening to our parish choirs. Other people find God in the wonder of the sciences, in the mystery of the universe.

As we look forward to our Vacation Bible School this summer, it is most inspiring and life-giving to be among our parish youth. They are the bearers of God’s presence before our very eyes. May we love them and fashion them after the mind and heart of Jesus.

Today’s Scriptures speak to two significant paths where we are to go to find God.

In the first Scripture reading today from the Book of Deuteronomy, Moses said there is no need to fly to the sky or sail the sea, God’s law and God’s presence is already in our hearts. The journey inward is a privileged component of our spiritual journey.

The spirit of Christ Jesus is deep within the heart and soul of each one of us. May we always experience God in the deep recesses of our hearts. We never walk alone. Our God goes with us.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus invites us to find the presence of God in one another.

As we reflect upon today’s Gospel, we need to ask ourselves: Who is my neighbor? Perhaps we also need to ask: Who is not my neighbor? Do we get a free pass on not witnessing to the love of Jesus to anyone who walks the face of the earth?

When we minister to God’s poor ones, we minister to God.

Today’s Scriptures invite us to pray over beautiful ways that our God is revealed to us.

Have a Blessed Day.

Summer Mission Trip

One week ago, we sent off 4 parishioners to serve the poor communities in Frenchville, PA with 40 other students from NY and MI. Their service is a blessing to our Parish, and we welcome them back this week with great joy! Look out for next week’s bulletin when we will share pictures and testimonies from their week of service and prayer.

THANK YOU!

Thank you to the Church of the Holy Spirit for graciously sharing your poor box offerings with Penfield HOPE as well as Webster’s HOPE House. The ministry of Penfield HOPE is possible because of the generosity of parishioners of both St. Joseph’s and Holy Spirit, the Knights of Columbus at both parishes, and many other resources that we have in common. In its first year, Penfield HOPE has served more than 80 residents in the 14526 and 14625 zip codes in over 250 visits. We recently became members of Foodlink and were awarded an Emergency Solutions Grant to prevent homelessness. We help with food, children’s clothing and diapers, internet access, household items, and financial assistance with rent, utilities and other emergencies. Volunteers are available in three shifts: Mondays 3:00-5:00, Tuesdays 6:00-8:00, and Thursdays 10:00-Noon. We welcome anyone who would like to volunteer; a new training is starting later in July. We also welcome your referrals of families or individuals in financial crisis. For more information, contact Deacon Duncan Harris or Cathy Kamp at 586-5139, [email protected]

Parish Picnic

Please hold August 4th for the Parish Picnic. The picnic will

begin following the 11:00 Mass. Parish will be supplying the meat, corn watermelon and drinks. Please bring a side dish or dessert to pass. Games will include volleyball, bean bag toss, bocce and water balloon toss.

COFFEE FOR HOSPICE

Hospice homes are in need of coffee, as the coffee pot is brewing continuously throughout the day and night. The Knights of Columbus are asking for donations of coffee to be distributed to neighboring Hospice Centers, including Shepard Home in Penfield and Comfort Care Home in Webster. During the weekends of July 13th, 20th and 27th, after all 3 Masses, you can drop off your donations in the gathering area. We’ll be accepting donations of canned coffee (regular and decaf only), K-cups, hot chocolate for the kids and boxes of tissues. As always, thank you for your generous support and God Bless!

Christmas in July

Our annual fundraiser starts next weekend, July 20 & 21 and ends July 27 & 28. Offering hand

stitched/hand made items to support the March for Life trip to Washington DC in January. Come see what we have to offer including stocking suffers and cozy winter ware.

Congratulations Eva Heroux!

Our Parish community would like to congratulate Eva Heroux who entered and won the National Geographic Mundo Explorer competition, one of only two students from the United States. Eva went on an all-expenses paid trip from June 20-July 4 to Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands and the Amazon. She returned this past week with many stories and pictures. Eva was confirmed last year and has been an active member of our young parish community. We are proud for her accomplishments and keep her in our prayers as she sets an example to our younger parishioners of faith, integrity, and determination to accomplish her goals!

2019-2020 Faith Formation Classes

It’s never too soon to sign your student up for the 2019-2020 Faith Formation and Sacrament Classes at Holy Spirit and St. Joseph’s Church. Students going into 2nd grade can begin preparing for their First Reconciliation and First Communion this fall.

Students entering 8th grade can begin their 2-year Confirmation Preparation process.

If you have a student who is past the regular age to complete their sacraments, call us! We would love to work with your family to make this a reality. We also welcome students with learning differences or special needs and will do our best to adapt the program to your students in the best way possible.

If you have a student age 3-8, consider signing them up for our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program, which immerses them into the richness of our faith through hands on activities modeled after a Montessori classroom.

For K-5th grade, we have a weekly faith formation class offered at St. Joseph’s Church or our Home Family program here at Holy Spirit.

For more information on all our programs, visit our website at ChurchOfHolySpiritWebster.org.

We need Altar Servers!

Have you ever considered being an Altar Server? Holy Spirit is looking for more students to be trained as altar servers for the weekend Masses. Any student who has received their first communion can sign up. You will be trained on what to do and paired with a more experienced server. We work with you to be scheduled at the Mass your family most often attends. In the words of Pope Francis, “Serving at the altar is a privileged way to draw closer to Jesus!”

VBS supplies

If you would like to help out VBS this year but can’t volunteer, please consider purchasing a few supply items from our wish-list in the gathering area. There are a handful of items still needed. If you have purchased an item, please remember to drop your donation off by July 15th. Donations can be left in the Main Office or the Faith Formation Office. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
