Reflections by Father John

The rulers sneered at Jesus and said, “He saved others, let him save himself

if he is the chosen one, the Christ of God.” Even the soldiers jeered at him.

As they approached to offer him wine they called out, “If you are King of the Jews, save yourself.”

Above him there was an inscription that read, “This is the King of the Jews.”

Not only was our Lord King of the Jews but He is also King of the entire Universe. The interesting thing about this king, Jesus that is, was His incredible patience. He allowed His own subjects to sneer at Him, make fun of Him, arrest Him, torture Him and finally crucify Him. This patience is born out of love; there is no other answer for it. I would even say it goes beyond just ordinary love but extraordinary! Yes, He is given this title, King of the Universe because of His Divine nature but also because of His virtues, again namely love.

As our own election process has come and gone and new leadership will take the place of the old and we place our hopes and aspirations in each new administration to make society better, they all seem to fall short. I do not say this out of a disdain for politicians or leaders, but like us they are sinners, and they fall short, but the hope we have in our Lord is that He never falls short.

Even with our leaders and their good intentions considering their shortcomings we must continue to offer them all up in prayer. I would imagine that it is not an easy job to lead a town, county, state or nation, rather that it is very difficult. Our King, Jesus Christ is the example of leadership, again, especially with His patience, but also in His humility, honesty,

compassion, justice and mercy. Our prayer is that our leaders will embody the life of Christ in their leadership. However it goes beyond just political leaders, it also applies to all of us. Each of us is in some form of leadership, be it in our families, among friends, in our ministries, at work, anywhere. We too are called to live those virtues; it’s what makes us holy. All of us are royalty you know, remember we were made priest, prophet and king at our baptism. Therefore, we should exemplify the same characteristics as our leader, Jesus Christ, King of the Universe!

God bless you,

Father John

THANK YOU from Good Counsel Homes! We are humbled by the extreme generosity of the parishioners of Holy Family Parish and are blessed to share the final baby bottle amount is $7,729.27. A special thank you to Father Picinic for his supportive words after the Masses and to all the parishioners who handed out bottles. It is through your prayerful and financial support we are able to continue to provide a loving home for our families. We welcome you to visit our Good Counsel Home, call JoAnn DiNoia, 609-387-2928; [email protected]. (Just a reminder that there are still bottles that were given out that have yet to be returned. Some of you may have simply forgot to return it. If so, still bring it to church and Good Counsel Homes will receive your bottle. If you took a bottle and were unable to participate, for whatever the reason, that’s okay—you can still help. The return of the bottle will still be a donation as this is one less bottle we have to purchase. Thank you and God bless you.)

Parish Pro Life Coordinator Needed After many years of dedication coordinating our parish’s two major Pro Life activities, its coordinator, Judy Desrochers must step down.

With this in mind, we are looking for someone willing to oversee the Annual Baby Shower which is held the first weekend of October and the Pro Life Carnation Sale held Mother’s Day weekend.

Very little time is required since everything is pretty much in place and just requires a coordinator for planning. Won’t you consider helping? We have several people who volunteered to help but we truly need someone who will coordinate these two parish events in support of Pro Life!

Please call the parish office if you can help —228-1616.

“….giving thanks to the Father, who has made you fit to share in the inheritance of the holy ones in light.” COLOSSIANS 1:12 God wants us to be happy! Instead of looking at the Ten Commandments as being restrictive and telling us what we can’t do, look at them as guides for living a joy-filled and peaceful life. Most of our problems arise when we put our own needs first or spend most of our time trying to acquire “things”, Christian Stewards put God first in all things instead.
