BE A ROCK Peter’s history as a follower or friend of Jesus is a bit spotty. It might be natural to wonder if Je-sus, in giving him the keys to the kingdom, didn’t feel a bit like a parent giving a teenager the keys to the family car. But it was at the moment when God’s power and presence broke through everything

else to raise up Peter’s great profession of faith in Christ as Messiah that Jesus chose to establish the bond between the loving, forgiving mercy of heaven and our vocation to be witnesses of that love, mercy, and forgiveness on earth. Like any parent, Jesus no doubt foresaw the failings, the irresponsible maneuvers or impaired senses, the colli-sions that the church would be headed for. But, most im-portantly, he also saw us at that moment as God prefers to see us: capable of manifesting great faith, with a will-ingness to remain at the feet of Christ to understand what it truly means to be Messiah and Christ. As the letter to the Romans points out to us today, we have not known the mind or the wisdom of God, but God knows us and still chooses to manifest the reign of justice, joy, beauty, and peace through us. Let this be our vocation. Let us always strive to be solid ground on which the church of Jesus Christ can be founded and on which it can continue to be built.

Remember Annunciation Parish in Your Will

JESUS: A PILGRIMAGE James Martin, SJ

Some of us were fortunate to go on a pilgrimage with our parish to the Holy Land in 2013. Father Martin takes us on his pilgrimage to the Holy Land in his book: JESUS: A PILGIMAGE. As Father Mar tin puts it "This book is designed to be accessible to anyone--from those just starting to think about Jesus to those who feel that they may know the topic well. It is designed for peo-ple of deep faith or no faith who want to know about Je-sus..... I would like to introduce you to the Jesus I know, and love, the person at the center of my life. Getting to know Jesus, like getting to know anyone, has been a pil-grimage." This book discussion will be led by Phil Russo on Monday mornings from 10-12 noon beginning in Octo-ber. The cost will be the price of the book (to be deter-mined). If interested, please call the parish office at 973-694-5700.

Please Pray for Our Sick Dear Father of love and mercy, hear our pray-ers for the sick members of our community and for all who are in need: Deacon Joe Crowley, Rebecca Mitchell, Dave Murphy, Don Molino. Rosemary Stephan, Jay Frost, Kassie Pierinelli, Bishop Emeritus, Frank J. Rodimer, and Tom Steimle.

Please pray for a new tenant for our Parish facility.

ALTAR FLOWER MEMORIAL For those who wish to remember a loved one at a weekend Mass, may we suggest offering the flowers for the main altar or for the Blessed Mother altar, which will be there for the weekend and into the week following.
