Let's tackle hunger this year in a SUPER way!! In 1990, an organization called the "Souper Bowl of Caring" was formed. That year, 22 churches collected $5,700 in South

Carolina. Since this was such a success, the organizers decided to start a youth-led movement with a simple prayer: "Lord, even as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us be mindful of those who are without a bowl of soup to eat". Since that time, SBOC has become a National organization and ordinary people, like you, have generated more than $100 million for soup kitchens, food banks, and other charities in communities across the Country. In addition, hundreds of thousands of youth have experienced for themselves the joy and satisfaction of giving and serving, inspiring people of all ages to follow their generous example.

This year, our St. Patrick Teen Group will be a part of the “Souper Bowl of Caring” movement. Teen members will be in the back of church after Mass with their soup pots on Super Bowl Sunday weekend (Feb. 3-4). We ask everyone to donate at least $1 to the cause (if you can give a few dollars more, that would really be appreciated). The money collected will be split between St. Patrick’s St. Vincent de Paul fund and the Teen Group for their service projects. If you would like to learn more about the Souper Bowl of Caring collection, please go to www.souperbowl.org.

THANK YOU FROM CARE NET!! The staff, clients, and families of Care Net of Schuylkill County would like to thank the St. Patrick Parish family for the generous Christmas gifts. Many new mothers and fathers were celebrating their first Christmas with their child, and many stated that your gifts were some of the only they would receive. Your

generosity and kindness has helped so many in our community. Here is a note from a client and her six-month-old daughter: "You all are such wonderful people and we appreciate how much you have helped us - and continue to." Thank you again for opening your hearts to those in need this Christmas season, and God bless you!

Another Retreat Testimonial………….. When our Parish announced that they would be holding yearly retreats, I was ecstatic and relieved! I love going on retreat and who better than with your Parish family to share your amazing spiritual experiences? My husband Greg and I have been on almost every single one. Our son, Andrew, was 3 years old when we started going on retreat. He doesn’t remember any other way that his parents celebrate Valentine’s Day. There are so many excuses that we can come up with to not go on retreat, but here are 3 reasons why we will be going on retreat again this year: 1. Life can go on without us. (That’s self-explanatory) 2. We’ve still got work to do. We have never had such insight into ourselves and our weaknesses, and what we need to work on as we have had on retreats. And because God is just that awesome, those potentially demoralizing insights have always been accompanied by an influx of grace and zeal for starting in on all that work on ourselves. 3. This is our vocation. We owe God and our family our best effort and complete dedication to our vocation as husband/wife and father/mother. Pursued properly, our work at home will help us to love God more, and loving God more will help us to do our work better. Going away on retreat helps us immeasurably in both areas.

~Greg and Dale Verchick
