BAKER’S BITS 1. Last week I started learning Slovak language, I am very excited about it. I am learning the language that my mother spoke and the language of our ancestors who built this beautiful church.

2. Parking – we were able to secure discounted parking for parishioners of St. John Nepomucene Church who travel to church by car from distant locations. The parking will be available from 10 AM to 3 PM on Sundays; the parking garage is the Garage Management Company Parking Garage at 337 East 64th Street between 1st and 2nd Avenue, tel.: 212-879-9796. To get the discounted rate tell the attendant that you are a parishioner of St. John’s Church. The rate you will be charged will be $3.00 and the parish will pay the balance. We hope that this will make it easier for parishioners to come to Church and become active members of the parish by going to the Mass and supporting the parish financially and by partici-pating in the parish activities. 3. COME AND EXPERIENCE THE HEALING LOVE OF JESUS IN THE BLESSED SACRAMENT! The Sisters of Life invite you to join us for The Source, a Eucharistic Holy Hour with prayerful music and the opportunity for Confession at Church of St. John Nepomucene, 66th St. and 1st Ave on Thursday, March 10th from 7 to 8 pm with a social afterwards. Call 646-882-1087 with questions. ENCYCLICAL ON THE ENVIRONMENT In his widely praised encyclical, “Laudato Si’: On the Care of Our Common Home,” Pope Francis challenges us to make integral ecology and care for the poor central to Christian spirituality and religious education. To deepen your own understanding of these crucial matters as well as the understanding of your brothers and sisters, Google: “USCCB Laudato Si’: On Care For Our Com-mon Home. Discussion Guide.” Consider using this guide in meetings of your parish ministries or forming a group to study Laudato Si’ using this guide. LENTEN SEASON The Church’s regulations for Lent are as follows: Fasting requires that only one full meal and two smaller meals may be taken during the day to maintain physical strength. Fasting is an obligation for all Catholics from ages 18 to 59. Those who are not specifically obliged to fast are encouraged to join in the discipline of fasting to the extent that they are able. Abstinence prohibits the individual from eating meat on a particular day. Absti-nence is an obligation for all Catholics beginning at age 14 and continuing throughout life. Those who are not spe-cifically obliged to abstain from meat are encouraged to do so if they are able. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence. Fridays in Lent are days of abstinence. A SUNDAY FOR REJOICING Today’s Gospel story of the prodigal son is a favorite of many. We can identify with all the major figures and their crisscross of emotions. The father’s initial grief over his young son’s avarice is turned to relief at his return. The son’s grief over his loss of fortune, family, and friends is turned to delirious joy at the sight of his father. We under-stand the eldest son’s bewilderment over his father’s gen-erosity. For the older son, virtue seems not to be its own reward. For all his honorable toil and loyalty, there seems to be no celebration. The father, however, is prodigal in his forgiveness and mercy. He expects the same gener-osity from his older son. He wants all to rejoice when the lost one is found. This is a Sunday for rejoicing. It’s time to pause, consider, and encourage one another. We are the prodigal children heading home. We are the elder sib-lings waiting with the eager Father, who scans the hori-zon. In Christ Jesus we are reconciled to the Father and one another. In his death and resurrection we have passed over. We are a new creation. In this we rejoice.

BAKER’S BITS - Z PERA OTCA BAKERA 1.

Keď prídete do garáže, povedzte zamestnancovi, že ste farníkmi kostola St. John Nepomucene, parkovanie vás bude stáť $3.00 a kostol uhradí zvyšok. Birmovka bude v sobotu 21. mája o 11:00 A.M. DNEŠNÁ DRUHÁ ZBIERKA bude na pomoc „Catholic Relief Services“. Váš milodar podporí katolícke charitatívne aktivity amerických biskupov a Svätého Otca. Radi privítame všetkých mladých vekom a duchom. Hlavným celebrantom a kazateľom bude Fr. Peter Bujdoš (Tappan, NY). Po sv. omši bude krížová cesta, a po nej malé pohostenie a posedenie. SVÄTÝ ROK MILOSRDENSTVA - SVÄTÉ BRÁNY V NEWYORSKEJ ARCIDIECÉZE Počas Svätého Roku Milosrdenstva, vychádzajúc z buly Svätého Otca Františka Misericordiae vultus, Kardinál Dolan vydal dekrét, ktorým určil v New Yorskej arcidie-céze chrámy a kostoly, na ktorých budú otvorené Brány milosrdenstva pre získanie daru odpustkov počas mimo-riadneho Svätého roku milosrdenstva, sú to: · St. Patrick’s Cathedral (Manhattan) · Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral (Manhattan) · Saint Frances Cabrini Shrine (Manhattan)

SPOMIENKOVÁ OSLAVA SLOVENSKEJ ŠTÁTNOSTI Slovenské organizácie a spolky usporiadajú spomienkovú oslavu slovenskej štátnosti v nedeľu, 13. marca o 1 hodi-ne odpoludnia v hale kostola Sv. Jána Nepomuckého. Vstup je voľný. Po programe bude možnosť zakúpiť si občerstvenie. Informácie: Henrrieta Daitová 201-641-8922 a Jozef a Anna Korčák 201-670-8162. VÝROČNÁ SCHÔDZA 182. ZBORU SLOVENSKÉHO KATOLÍCKEHO SOKOLA bude dnes, v nedeľu, 6. marca 2016 po slovenskej sv. omši o 12:00 hod, v osadnej hale kostola. Schôdza bude spojená s oslavou nášho patróna sv. Jozefa. Pozývame všetkých členov, Jozefov aj tých, čo by chceli dostať viac informácií, čo SKS poskytuje pre dospelých a deti. Po schôdzi bude občerstvenie. ČLENSKÁ SCHÔDZA SPOLKU SV. MATÚŠA, Č. 45 ISKJ bude dnes, v nedeľu, 6. marca 2016 o 12:30 popoludní v spoločenskej miestnosti kostola sv. Jána Nepomuckého. Na programe bude prejednávanie činnosti na najbližšie obdobie. Všetci členovia sú vítaní. SV. OMŠE ZAMERANẾ NA DETI sú zvyčajne vždy v poslednú nedeľu v mesiaci o 10:30 A.M. Keďže posledná marcová nedeľa je Veľkonočná nedeľa, najbližšia takáto „detská“ sv. omša bude v poslednú aprílovú nedeľu, t.j. 24. apríla . Po sv. omši bude stretnutie s deťmi.
