Prayer of Pope Francis for Protection and Help

O Mary, you always shine on our path as a sign of sal-vation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who at the cross took part in Jesus’ pain, keeping your faith firm. You…know what we need, and we are sure You will provide, so that, as in Cana of Galilee, we may return to joy and to feasting after this time of trial. Help us, Moth-er of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who has taken upon Himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows to lead us, through the Cross, to the joy of the Resurrection. Amen. Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God. Do not disdain the entreaties of those of us who are in trial, but deliver us from every danger, O Glori-ous and Blessed Virgin. Amen

Prayer for a Pandemic

May we who are merely inconvenienced, re-member those whose lives are at stake. May we who have no risk factors remember those most vulnerable. May those who have the luxury of working from home remember those who must choose between preserving their health or making their rent. May those who have the flexibility to care for our children when schools close remember those who have no options. May we who have to cancel a trip remember those who have no safe place to go. May we who are losing our margin money in the tumult of the economic market remember those who have no margin at all. May those who settle for quarantine at home remember those who have no home. As fear grips our country, let us choose love during this time when we cannot physically wrap our arms around each other, let us find ways to be the loving embrace to God and our neighbor.

Prayer by Cameron Wiggins Bellm

A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly

Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the

Lord April 12, 2020

“So she ran and went to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them ‘they have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him.’ So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb…. Then the other disciple went in, and he saw and believed. For they did not understand the Scriptures that he had to rise from the dead.” We can search for the Lord as did Mary of Magdale-na. We can run as did Peter and John, and find linen cloths and an empty tomb. Our search continues. We can reflect on our favorite post resurrection stories as recorded in the scriptures and share our belief and Easter joy. More importantly, we need to look into our own hearts, renew our Easter faith and discover the pres-ence of the Risen Lord in our hearts for the kingdom is near and is within you. May we mirror the joy of the first witnesses of the Risen Lord, as we live Easter every day.

The days and months ahead may be inconvenient or may turn out to be really trying. Whatever comes our way, this is a time to practice our faith that we are united as one body in Christ, that we are invited to uphold each other in prayer, and that we are called to be

present to each other either through listening or through reaching out. Weekly envelopes support the Church by assisting in the payment of bills and by keeping our Church fiscally sound. April 8, 2020

Dear Friends in Christ, In our yearly celebration of Easter, we joyfully mark God's renewal of his creation and his renewal of our lives through Christ's victory over sin and death. At the dawn of creation God said: "Let there be light" (Genesis 1:4) and his powerful word made light to guide the crown of his creation, the human person. Jesus Christ is the Light that redeems us and leads us to eternal life. While we will not be able to celebrate all of the beautiful rites of the Easter Vigil this year, such as the blessing of the new fire and the solemn preparation and lighting of the Paschal Candle, we can do something to express our certain hope for the Light of Christ to banish despair. I invite all of the faithful to place a small electric light outside of their home or in their window at sunset on the night before Easter Sunday, the vigil of the Day of Resurrection, to unite our hearts in hope and to express our undying faith in our Risen Lord who is the Light that never will be vanquished. As the electric candle or light is illumined I invite you pray with your household: "May the Light of Christ rising in glory dispel the darkness of our hearts and minds." God continues to enlighten the world through our faith in the Lord Jesus and in the countless acts of sacrifice of so many selfless individuals during this difficult time. May God deliver from harm all of those who suffer in the midst of this pandemic and protect all who attend to their care. May he keep each of us safe in his loving embrace. With a prayer for the Lord's blessing, I am

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Arthur J. Serratelli, S.T.D., S.S.L., D.D. Bishop of Paterson

Some Recommendations and symbols to celebrate the Easter Triduum at home

Holy Week and Easter feel so different this year, without being able to go to church and take part in the liturgies like we do every year. Thankfully, we can still be present to the liturgy from our own homes following the Academy of St. James Facebook page for livestream Mass and services

Holy Thursday

"Holy Thursday does commemorate the Passover, the Last Supper which celebrated both the institution of the Eucharist and the Sacrament of Holy Orders. There's nothing more important to Jesus than to share a meal with His friends the night before He died." On this day enjoy a favorite meal Thursday and then get ready to fast on Good Friday. (Bishop Joseph Brennan)

We will livestream Mass at 7:00pm. After Holy Mass stay tuned for a holy hour of adoration until 8:30pm

Good Friday

This is a day of fasting, quiet prayer and contemplation. Praying the Stations of the Cross is the traditional way to honor this day. Fr. Marc has prepared a video with the Stations and you can join him in prayer during the day, (The link can be found on the parish website)

The Divine Mercy Novena begins today and will be livestream at 3:00pm every day until Divine Mercy Sunday.

The Celebration of the Lord’s Passion will be livestream at 7:00pm. During this celebration consider lighting a candle and set a crucifix to be venerated.

Holy Saturday

While we will not be able to celebrate all of the beautiful rites of the Easter Vigil this year, such as the blessing of the new fire and the solemn preparation and lighting of the Paschal Candle, we can do something to express our certain hope for the Light of Christ to banish despair. I invite all of the faithful to place a small electric light outside of their home or in their window at sunset on the night before Easter Sunday, the vigil of the Day of Resurrection. As the electric candle or light is illumined I invite you pray with your household: "May the Light of Christ rising in glory dispel the darkness of our hearts and minds." (Bishop Arthur Serratelli)

Easter vigil will be livestream at 7:00pm. Bring your Easter basket; at the end of Mass we will do the blessing of the food.
