Prayer of Pope Francis for
Protection and Help
O Mary, You always shine on our path as a sign of
salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick,
who at the cross took part in Jesus’ pain, keeping your faith firm.
You…know what we need, and we are sure You
will provide, so that, as in Cana of Galilee, we may return to joy and to feasting after this time of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who has taken upon Himself our suf-
ferings and carried our sorrows to lead us, through the Cross, to the joy of the Resurrection.
Amen.
Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God. Do not disdain the entreaties of
those of us who are in trial, but deliver us from every danger,
O Glorious and Blessed Virgin. Amen
A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly
Sixth Sunday of Easter
May 17, 2020 “Beloved: Sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts. Al-ways be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope, but do it with gentleness and reverence, keeping your conscience clear… For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that is the will of God, than for doing evil…for Christ suf-fered that he might lead you to God.” How wonderful if you would take the time or make the op-portunity to read the entire letter of Saint Peter. He spent his time, helping the first and persecuted Christians to re-main strong in their faith. Are you ready to answer questions people might pose, because you are a believer? There are so many people hungry for the truth and for the Lord, and you might be the instrument He uses to bring them back, or even to meet Him for the first time. The reason others approach you is because they find something special in you, they want what you have. If you are not sure how to respond, suggest a bible study or faith sharing group – and join one yourself. In this way all can grow together in faith as we walk the journey together. As someone told me today, they heard a voice saying ‘I am waiting for you.’

Prayer for a Pandemic
May we who are merely inconvenienced, remember those whose lives are at stake.
May we who have no risk factors remember those most vulnerable.
May those who have the luxury of working from home remember those who must choose between preserving their health or
making their rent. May those who have the flexibility to care for our children when
schools close remember those who have no options. May we who have to cancel a trip remember those who have no
safe place to go. May we who are losing our margin money in the tumult of the economic market remember those who have no margin at all. May those who settle for quarantine at home remember those
who have no home. As fear grips our country, let us choose love during this time
when we cannot physically wrap our arms around each other, let us find ways to be the loving embrace to God and our
neighbor.

The days and months ahead may be inconvenient or may turn out to be really trying. Whatever comes our way, this is a time to practice our faith that we are united as one body in Christ, that we are invited to uphold each other in prayer, and that we are
called to be present to each other either through listening or through reaching out. Weekly envelopes support the Church by assist-ing in the payment of bills and by keeping our Church fis-cally sound. During this time of having to cancel Masses be-cause of the coronavirus, you may drop-off your collection envelopes in the mail slot of the Parish House or mail them to 32 St. James Place, Totowa, 07512. Everyone’s envelopes assist in the health and prosperity of our parish. We thank you for your continued generosity and kindness to St. James. Stay safe and healthy!
