indulGenCe oPPortunity for the 100th anniVerSary of our lady of fatima

Pope Francis has granted a plenary indulgence opportunity for the 100th anniversary of the Fatima apparitions throughout the centennial year, from November 27, 2016 until November 26, 2017. There are three ways to obtain the indulgence: 1. Make a pilgrimage to the Shrine in Fatima, Portugal. To the faithful who make a pilgrimage to the Fatima Shrine in Portugal and participate in a celebration of prayer dedicated to the Virgin. 2. Pray before any statue of Our Lady of Fatima. To the faithful who visit with devotion a statue of Our Lady of Fatima solemnly exposed for public veneration in any church, oratory or proper place during the days of the anniversary of the apparitions, the 13th of each month from May to October 2017, and there devoutly participate in some celebration or prayer in honor of the Virgin Mary. In addition, the faithful must pray the Our Father, recite the Creed and invoke Our Lady of Fatima. 3. The elderly and infirm. To the faithful who, because of age, illness or other serious cause, are unable to get around, may pray in front of a statue of Our Lady of Fatima and must spiritually unite themselves to the jubilee celebrations on the days of the apparitions, the 13th of each month, between May and October 2017.

Prayer and WorShiP26TH Sunday in ordinary time: mattheW 21:28-32Jesus said to the chief priests and elders of the people:“What is your opinion? A man had two sons. He came to the first and said, ‘Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.’ He said in reply, ‘I will not, ‘ but afterwards changed his mind and went. The man came to the other son and gave the same order. He said in reply, ‘Yes, sir, ‘but did not go. Which of the two did his father’s will?”They answered, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Amen, I say to you, tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you. When John came to you in the way of righteousness, you did not believe him; but tax collectors and prostitutes did. Yet even when you saw that, you did not later change your minds and believe him.”

Carmelo Cortez, a visionary from the Philippines, will be visiting St. Gregory the Great Church on October 9th to perform a healing service. Mass will be celebrated at 3:00pm and the Healing Service will begin at 4:00pm. ‘Brother Carmelo’ or simply ‘Carmelo’ is widely known for white rose petals that he prays over the sick and amazingly shows different etched images on them after just a few seconds. He believes that through the intercession of our Blessed Mother of the Eucharist and of Grace, God uses him to bring His grace of healing to the sick. We invite you then to come and be healed. NOTE: Please bring a fresh white rose flower or two with you when you come as he would need them for this healing service.

Choral anthem – oCtoBer 1st The St. Gregory the Great Choir will perform the choral anthem Look Up and Count the Stars by Peter Latona at the 10:30am Mass on Sunday, October 1st. This anthem was composed for the World Meeting of Families in 2015.

“Look up and count the stars if ye may,” thus God to Abra’m did declare; “So shall all your descendants be for now and all eternity.” We are the stars from God’s own hand, reflections of his own true love, The beauty of God’s heav’nly plan, the eternal gift from heav’n above. Now gaze upon the infant child with Joseph and the Virgin nigh; May all our fam’lies be like them in peace and joy and unity. Grant Lord, we pray, the grace to be the shining splendor of God’s love; His radiant light of truth and hope from heaven down to earth below. So gaze upon the stars on high, sing praise to God with single voice. Accept His gift and guard it well and let His will be our hearts’ choice. Praise God the Father, Christ the Son, and Holy Spirit with them one. We pray they bless our fam’lies now and throughout all eternity. Amen.

mary, undoer of knotS We all have some “knots” in our lives… and Mary can untie them! Please join us in praying the Novena Prayer to Mary, Undoer of Knots, from September 28 to October 6 at home and at all Masses.

Virgin Mary, Mother of fair love, Mother who never refuses to come to the aid of a child in need, Mother whose hands never cease to serve your beloved children because they are moved by the divine love and immense mercy that exist in your heart, cast your compassionate eyes upon me and see the snarl of knots that exists in my life. Mary, Mother to whom God entrusted the undoing of the knots in the lives of his children, I entrust into your hands the ribbon of my life. Powerful Mother, by your grace and intercessory power with Your Son and My Liberator, Jesus, take into your hands today this knot.  [Mention your request here] I beg you to undo it for the glory of God, once for all. You are my hope. Hear my plea. Keep me, guide me, protect me, o safe refuge! Mary, Undoer of Knots, pray for me.

our lady of fatima PreSentation

Father Frederick Miller, Spiritual Director of the College Seminary of the Immaculate Conception at Seton Hall University and Adjunct Professor of Systematic Theology at the major seminary, will speak on “The 100th Anniversary of the Apparitions of Our Lady at Fatima – the Enduring Significance of the Message.” The talk will be held on October 9th at 7:30pm in the St. Gregory the Great Chapel.

One hundred years have passed since the six apparitions of the Mother of God to three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal. Arguably, the message of Our Lady of Fatima was and remains the most important contemporary word that has come to us from Heaven. This centenary celebration offers us the opportunity to listen again and at a new depth to what has been called, “Heavens Peace-Plan.”

ProClaiminG the Good neWS!By the Evangelization TeamThe great good news is that St. Gregory the Great (in the person of Tom Van Horn) joined our families at our annual parish picnic! The joy, dancing and smiles were abounding despite the heat. Congratulation and many thanks to the picnic team led by Peg Kowalski. The group whipped up a wonderful parish family celebration. Thank you Father McClane for encouraging a beautiful parish family event!

With the start of this fall season, are you being challenged in your efforts to make time to be with the Lord? Are you finding that the fall’s nightly sports and club commitments have already taken over your calendar? How about making a time commitment to sit with Jesus in Adoration? Coming to Adoration in the chapel is like coming to an oasis, a watering hole, a resting place in a dessert filled with demands on our resources and reserves. In taking time to regroup and recoup with God, all other busy activities and life challenges find their place. The wonderful Psalm 46, “Be still and know I am God,” comes to mind whenever I find grappling with the busy stuff of life beyond my abilities.

I often wonder how do people find peace and hope if they do not know our Lord? Let us pray to find ways to bring the joy and peace to all who journey within our path.

hen battered by life’s storms, or immersed in a

dense fog of suffering and uncertainty, we may feel alone and unequipped to handle the circumstances. Yet with words that echo through thousands of years into the corners of our hearts, the Lord says to us, “Do not fear: I am with you” (Isaiah 41:10).

He speaks these words not as one who merely observes our pain, but as one who experienced immense suffering. And the very wounds that bear witness to his suffering indicate the essence of our identity and worth: we are loved by God.

Reflecting on the healed wounds of the Risen Christ, we see that even our most difficult trials can be the place where God manifests his victory. He makes all things beautiful. He makes all things new.

He is always with us. Jesus promised this when he gave the disciples the same

mission he gives to each of us: Go.

Go be my hands

and feet to a world enslaved by fear. Go to the woman who is

unexpectedly pregnant and fears

the future. Go to your friend who fears reprisal at work

because he takes a stand for the

protection of human life. Go to your aging

parent in failing health who fears

being a burden. And go to others, too, for

their support. We don’t need to have everything figured out. We can simply follow the

guidance of Our Blessed Mother, the first disciple: “Do whatever he tells you” (John 2:5).

Walk with each other. Do not be afraid to embrace God’s gift of life. Whatever storms or trials we face, we are not alone. He is with us.

“Do nothing out of selfishness; rather, humbly regard others as more important than yourselves…” - PHILIPPIANS 2:3 Pride and ego are hard things to control. We see how others act or dress and think we are superior to them. We idolize our own self- image. But, if we truly believe everything is a gift from God, we recognize all the people that God has put in our lives as gifts! We are grateful for how they enrich our lives. Pray every day for the people in your life.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED GENEROSITY
