A WORD FROM FR. IVAN
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I want to thank Karen Cronin for her service and excellent work in the administration of
our parish. She will be leaving us by the end of this month. She has accepted a position at
Catholic Finance Corporation which works with parishes in the Archdiocese and in other diocese in the country.
Karen’s presence has made my first years at St. Bernard’s easier. Her advice and suggestions to me and in our
finance meetings were always a value for the parish. Apart from the normal administrative work of the parish,
Karen worked hard to fund our Karenni outreach program. She managed to form an alliance with Ramsey
County to have two of their employees come to St. Bernard’s to serve our Karenni families. The financial help we
receive from the parishes of St. Ambrose and Assumption is through her ability to build relationships. Her input
to have a successful capital campaign to repair the church bell towers was very important. She has been involved
in dealing and negotiating with the school leases including CSE, Prodeo and Yeah Academy. Her ability to work
on all the details with our new tenants was another major task she accomplished. She loved teaching the Good
Shepherd Catechesis to the children in our faith formation class. These are just some of her important
contributions at St. Bernard’s. There are many other things that she did behind the scene. I just want to thank
Karen. I know we will all miss her. I wish her well at her new job.
Kathy Pojar, one of our parishioners, will be taking on the administrative responsibilities for the parish. She has
started and is already learning the details of the position. Also Jim Rice will do the accounting work of our parish.
I want to thank both of them for taking on these new positions.
David Neira is back as our DRE and RCIA director and will be leading Faith Formation Program, RCIA and
Cors Internship which is part of our Karenni outreach work. Welcome back!
Please pray that this transition will be as smooth as possible.
God bless! Wishing you a good Sunday.

From the Parish Administrator
Fr. Ivan has shared the news about my upcoming departure from St. Bernard’s. I have really
grown to love this parish and all the people who are a part of it. I was here during the painful time
that the schools closed in 2009 and 2010. I helped, as a volunteer, to implement the Catechesis of
the Good Shepherd (faith formation program) which kept me here until 2015 when I took on the
parish administrator role. Finding ways to share my faith with others is important to me and
working with mostly refugees from a non-Christian part of the world has opened my eyes to how
the Lord works wonders.
The Lord has been so good to this parish! I cannot begin to tell you how He has blessed this
place. Although the parish is small, it seems that everyone takes part in keeping this place vibrant
in whatever way they can.
You opened your doors to the Karenni and they have blossomed under your embrace of them.
They truly are a vital part of this parish now. The capital campaign has been one way that has
helped to bring the parish together. The parish response to the needs of repairing the bell towers
has been phenomenal. More has been raised with fewer families than the campaign back in 2005-
2008. Finding resources outside of the parish to help with our outreach has been a good way to
share the work that is being done here. Hopefully, this will bear great fruit in the larger
community.
I am thrilled that Kathy Pojar and Jim Rice have agreed to take on administrative roles here. They
are part of this parish and it is wonderful that the Lord prepared the way for them to become part
of the parish staff. I will miss this place very much but am hoping to find a way to do some
volunteer work here after I leave the staff. I have learned and grown from my time here.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve! Karen Cronin ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-
Bible Study
Two Bible Studies Begin in September
Our Parish is starting two bible studies in September: the Thursday night study is The Book of
James, Pearls for Wise Living, and will meet every other Thursday from 6:30-8:30 pm in the Parish
Office, starting on Sept. 6. The Sunday morning study is The Acts of the Apostles, and will meet
most Sunday mornings, 9:15 to 10:15 am, in the Parish Center, starting on Sept. 16.
Sign up is easy! If you’d like to purchase the study materials, the cost is $25 for James, and $30 for
Acts. This price includes the study guide and access to all videos for the study online at Ascension
Press.
Please see the display in the church vestibule for more information and instructions on signing
up. Contact Elizabeth Doherty at 651-387-9500 or at [email protected] with questions.
