From the Desk of Father Jonathan
Recently, one of you told me that you don't know how to pray. This was a sincere expression of concern from a man who spends at least a few minutes every day in our church. "What do you mean", I told him. "I see you praying here every day". "Yes, I come here every day, and I try to pray, but I don't think I know how to do it", he replied. After a few minutes of back and forth about what he actually does during his quiet moments in the church, I understood his dilemma. He was talking to God but he didn't feel like he was getting any re-sponse. "You once told us, Fr. Jonathan, that prayer is conversation with God, but in real conversations, it's not just one person doing the talking. I don't hear God say anything back to me".
This gentleman made a very good point. God is not loud. In fact, he is often much too quiet for our liking. We talk to him but we don't always hear a response.
The quiet of prayer does not mean we don't know how to pray. God's response to us almost always comes in the silence....and over time. When you pray, talk to God....then enjoy the silence through which he draws us closer to Himself. We don't need to hear some-thing. Our conversation with God involves our expression of praise, gratitude, repentance, joy, petition.....and it involves his response of grace, which comes in many forms. His grace sometimes comes in the form of wisdom to know what is the right choice before us. Sometimes it comes in the form of serenity or peace. Other times it comes in little miracles throughout the day, or even in ways we cannot perceive.
When you pray.... tell God everything....and then enjoy the silence. He speaks, but he whispers.
God bless! Father Jonathan

REFLECTING ON GOD’S WORD
CHILDREN OF THE LIGHT Gospel: (John 9:1-41 [1, 6-9, 13-17, 34-38]) The future king, David, in today’s first reading, is an example of a type of character present throughout the Hebrew scriptures. He is the child born out of place (not the eldest or most favored) who ends up receiving the promise of the covenant. The spirit of God’s anointing rushes upon him. In this way, he is similar to the man born blind from today’s Gospel. David’s family and the blind man’s community did not expect the miraculous grace of God’s love to work through them. Perhaps they, too, were “blinded” by the expectations and assumptions of those around them. Yet, after being touched by God, they both came to “see” the presence of God’s will for them. Both became messengers of God’s will. That same Spirit of God’s anointing rushed upon us at our baptism; we were given a candle as a sign of our membership in the Body of Christ, the Light from Light. Our vocation, then, is to fulfill that enlightenment, that anointing, as Ephesians tells us, by living as “children of the light.”

Today is Laetare Sunday
This Sunday is a Sunday of joy. Lent is half over, and Easter is enticingly near. The Church’s liturgy, on this the fourth Sunday of Lent, invites us to retrace one of the fundamental dynamics of our baptismal re-birth through the Gospel account of the healing of the ‘man born blind’. It is the passage from the darkness of sin and error to the Light of God, who is the Risen Christ. Laetare Sunday has as its mood and theme hope and rejoicing that Easter is near. The entrance antiphon for the day still begins with the word "rejoice" and the vestments worn by the celebrant are rose-colored, not violet.

Rallegriamoci!
(cf. Is 66,10-11)
REFLEXIONEMOS LA PALABRA DE DIOS Evangelio: (Jn 9:1-41 [1, 6-9, 13-17, 34-38])
