Have you ever felt judged by your family? St. John Paul II noted that the family "is the cradle of
life and love" (On the Lay Members of Christ's Faithful, 40). Yet unmet expectations and
divergent priorities can cause tension in even the most loving family situations. This is true for us,
and it was true for Jesus!
In today's Gospel, Jesus has returned home to Nazareth. A large crowd gathered, and Jesus finds
Himself facing stiff opposition
from His family. This was
likely Jesus' large, extended
family. The Semitic language
has no specific words for
extended relatives, so everyone
is "brother" or "sister." The en-
tire clan has gotten wind of Je-
sus' preaching, and they are not
amused. "They set out to seize
him, for they said, 'He is out of
His mind.'" To make matters
worse, the religious authorities even accuse Jesus of being possessed by a demon. It's a mess by
any standards.
The family's perspective is perhaps understandable. In Jewish culture, teachers and scribes under-
went intensive schooling and apprenticeships, none of which Jesus had done. The family knew
Jesus the carpenter, not Jesus the rabbi. For them, Jesus' bold preaching threatened the reputation
of their family!
Jesus' words to His family can seem controversial." Who are my mother and my brothers?" Yet
Jesus knows what he is about. He has always known he would be about the business of His
Heavenly Father. And what is that business? It is the business of the new covenant and the King-
dom of God. In this Kingdom, we are all adopted sons and daughters of the King. Jesus begins,
even now, to expand the perspective of His listeners. Being welcomed into this family does not
depend on our families of birth or ethnic origin, but a wholehearted commitment to "do the will of
God."

Children of Mary Rosary Prayer
Group
“Mary, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary” is asking you to join the Children of Mary Rosary Group on Tuesday evenings at 6:30pm in the chapel. Join us for one decade or all fifteen decades of the Holy Rosary.
We pray in the presence of Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.
We can include your special intention in the list of requested intentions mentioned during the Rosary.
“Where two or more are gathered in His Name, there am I in your Midst”
We trust in His Mercy.
For more information or to request prayer for a special intention, call Ellie at 735-8400.
Abortion Recovery Groups
Did you know that one in four women will have an abortion by
the age of 45? Did you know that 54% of abortion patients
identified as Christians? Did you know that 43% of abortion
patients were actively attending church at the time of their
abortion? Many times, those in our churches who are
post-abortive are afraid to share their story. They are afraid of
how fellow Christians will respond. They feel alone, like they
are the only one in the church who has committed that
particular sin – and the enemy is the accuser and he will keep
her in shame and silence. We want her to find hope, healing,
and the forgiveness of Jesus Christ. Post Mother’s Day can be
an especially difficult time for many women who are
post-abortive so we have two Biblically based abortion
recovery groups starting soon.

Are You New To Our Area and visiting our Parish for the first time? or Perhaps you are a Returning Catholic.
Are you looking for a welcoming community? You have come to the right place. One of the clergy or the parish staff would be happy to meet with you to discuss your needs and our parish life.
We warmly welcome you to our Incarnation family. We are blessed to be a part of your faith journey.
The Incarnation Men’s Club meets the second Monday of the month in the Finegan Center at 6:30pm. Their (delicious) dinner has recently been reduced to $5.00. At the June 11th meeting, dinner will be old fashioned meatloaf served with mashed potatoes and corn, and desert will be warm apple pie and ice cream.
The speaker for this meeting will be Mr. Herb Osmussen, a long-time member of the
Incarnation Parish and a former President of the Men’s Club. Herb’s topic will be
his travels to Cuba in the late1950’s, and also his recent trips to Cuba, Europe,
and Scandinavia.
Men of the Parish are invited to join. Annual dues are just $20,00 and your first meal is at no charge.
We read in Genesis that God made all kinds of animals and pronounced them good. Domesticated animals play a very important part in our lives. House pets bring us much joy, so much that they are considered part of our family. I myself think of them as fur angels. Losing a pet leaves a void in our lives.
If you have recently lost a beloved pet and would like to talk about it, I am available in my office on Wednesday, June 20, at 1:30pm. God bless.

FATHER’S DAY TRIDUUM
Called to Partake in the
Eucharist
Do you attend Mass each week,
but do not feel you can receive
Eucharist? At times, individuals
are under the mistaken notion
that they cannot receive Jesus in
the Most Holy Sacrament of the
Eucharist. Eucharist is food for
our souls,
a precious
Gift left to
us by
Christ.
If you refrain from receiving this
Sacrament for any reason, please
to set up an appointment to
discuss your concerns with one
of the following: Fr. Matt Grady,
Fr. Ronnie Sison, Sr. Monica
Paul, or Leslie Hutchison.
Sharing Your Gifts
Our parish does not prosper on your financial support
alone. We count on your prayers to support other
parishioners, priests, deacons, religious, staff, and all
those who serve the church. Along with your generous
donations, the gifts of prayer, ministry, and volunteering
are what make Incarnation Parish a truly life-giving
community.
Everyday Stewardship
I have coached all three of my children in soccer at some time in
their lives. I loved teaching them and their teammates the
importance of functioning as one unit. If we were not all moving
together toward victory, we would all find ourselves together in
defeat. We used to go through one drill I called the "human
foosball." We would scrimmage with players in lines like on a
foosball table. If you ever got too far behind or too far ahead of
those in your line, play would stop and the ball would go to the
other team. The goal was to help build an awareness of where
your teammates were on the pitch and to teach the lesson that no
one player is a team onto themselves.
As disciples and stewards, we sometimes find ourselves far
behind or maybe even too far ahead. As a consequence, our
actions either hinder the ability of the Body of Christ to
evangelize and pass on the faith to a new generation or present
the Church as an entity that sees itself as judgmental or too holy
to be in the world.
We are called to community, and in that community, we must be
aware of our brothers and sisters in the faith. At times, we need
to help them grow in their faith. Other times, we need to slow
down and realize that we cannot change the world on our own.
We all have unique gifts we are called to share, and we can only
bear true witness to the power of the Body of Christ when we are
all moving together and making each other strong.
-Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS

Why do we celebrate the Heart of Jesus in the month of
June?
Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is an ancient
practice. We can see its Scriptural origins in Jesus' own
references to His Heart. "Come to me, all you who labor and
are burdened, and I will give you rest ? for I am meek and
humble of heart" Matthew 11:28, 29
The devotion received a surge of popularity in the late 1600s.
Jesus appeared several times to a French religious sister,
St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, pointing to his heart. During this
time, the Jansenist heresy had risen in France, which preached
limited predestination for salvation.
When appearing to Margaret Mary, Jesus affirmed His love
for all mankind: "Behold the Heart which has so loved men
that it has spared nothing." He asked for a special feast
celebrating His Sacred Heart on the Friday following the feast
of Corpus Christi. Over time, June has become known as the
month of Sacred Heart.

We learned early in Novitiate that good
Dominicans anticipate. With that in mind,
we are given the opportunity to plan the
Liturgy which will be used when we leave this Earth to
begin life in our new eternal home.
It has been my privilege over the years to help a
number of people plan their own funeral liturgies, or
that of a family member, ahead of time. This gives
them the opportunity to pick the readings and songs
they like, as well as leave any other wishes for their last
Mass.
If you would like to do this, I am available to help you.
Please call 921-6631, ext.225, Sr. Monica Paul, O.P.
There is no charge for this service. It would consider it
an honor to assist you. God bless you.
As a pro-life mother of two children, Kristen Bell is always thinking of ways to help families to develop hearts of compassion and love for life at all stages. Here is part of her 23 simple and practical things to do to promote, support, and build a culture of compassion and dignity in our communities.
4 Invest in DVD’s that your family can watch that teach about the beauty of life, like the creatively produced pro-life cartoon DVD about a baby growing in the womb called Stiff and AJ’s Fantastic Voyage by Lumen Entertainment. The animation is fun and the content is life-affirming.
5 Read pro-life books like “Miraculous Me” by Ruth Pendergast Sissel, or the adult fiction books in the “Lily Trilogy” written by Sherry Boas that follow the life a girl with Down syndrome who makes a great impact on the culture through her beautiful life

Universal – Social Networks
That social networks may work towards that inclusiveness which respects other for their differences.
Youth Group was very inspiring to me because it
taught me more than I ever knew about Christ. Like
what he can do for you. I liked that we shared what to
pray about and we prayed for each other; it was
moving. Mr. Rick shared his life stories - I liked that
part. ~ Peter F.
Youth group means to me finding friends who have the same faith and have all become my family. I have been able to open up and be myself and feel loved and accepted. ~Cayla E.
Youth group has impacted my strengths and
weaknesses. Through the experience of meeting
different people and their perspective in faith, it has
brought forward who I truly am. I have been able to
communicate, become inspired, and relate to the
youth group. I believe these three things are what
has made youth group become so powerful as a
whole. We grow from one a another, in which God
gives us grace only to become stronger. ~ Kirsten J.
Youth Group Members Speak out! Join us for 2018 / 2019!
I am so blessed and grateful. We always have something fun as a project and always learning
something new about the Lord ~ Riley V.
It helped me understand more
about my faith. I also loved the
use of music and movies to
teach us.- Robert S.
Youth group means more to me than just an educational, social group. To me it’s a place where I can connect and talk openly with others my age who also believe in my same religion. Somewhere we can have fun yet serious moments, learn and pray together, and just be there for one another for the good and bad. -Megan T
Youth Group has been very
helpful this year. We’ve learned
some ways to turn to God in
stressful situa!ons. We learned
that we should do ac!ons for
Him and not for ourselves.
We’re on Earth for a short !me
