El 1 de noviembre es la solemnidad litúrgica de Todos los Santos, que prevalece sobre el domingo. Se trata de una popular

y bien sen�da fiesta cris�ana, que al evocar a quienes nos han precedido en el camino de la fe y de la vida, gozan ya de la

eterna bienaventuranza, son ya �por así decirlo� ciudadanos de pleno derecho del cielo, la patria común de toda la huma-

nidad de todos los �empos.�

�

1.� El día de Todos los Santos cuenta un milenio de popular y sen�da historia y tradición en la vida de la Iglesia. Fueron los

monjes benedic�nos de Cluny quienes expandieron esta fes�vidad.�

�

2.� En este día�celebramos a todos aquellos cris�anos que ya gozan de la visión de Dios, que ya están en el cielo, hayan

sido o no declarados santos o beatos por la Iglesia. De ahí, su nombre: el día de Todos los Santos.�

�

3.� Santo es aquel cris�ano que, concluida su existencia terrena, está ya en la presencia de Dios, ha recibido �con palabras

de San Pablo� “la corona de la gloria que no se marchita”.�

�

4.� El santo, los santos son siempre reflejos de la gloria y de la san�dad de Dios. Son modelos para la vida de los cris�anos

e intercesores de modo que a los santos se pide su ayuda y su intercesión. Son así dignos y merecedores de culto de vene-

ración.�

�

5.� El día de Todos los Santos incluye en su celebración y contenido a los santos populares y conocidos, extraordinarios

cris�anos a quienes la Iglesia dedica en especial un día al año.�

�

6.� Pero el día de Todos los Santos es, sobre todo, el día de los santos anónimos, tantos de ellos miembros de nuestras

familias, lugares y comunidades.�

�

7.� El día de Todos los Santos es igualmente una oportunidad para recordar la llamada a la san�dad presente en todos los

cris�anos desde el bau�smo. Es ocasión para hacer realidad en nosotros la llamada del Señor a que seamos perfectos�

santos� como Dios, nuestro Padre celes�al, es perfecto, es santo. Se trata de una llamada apremiante a que vivamos to-

dos nuestra vocación a la san�dad según nuestros propios estados de vida, de consagración y de servicio. En este tema

insis�ó mucho el Concilio Va�cano II, de cuya clausura se celebran ahora los 40 años. El capítulo V de su Cons�tución dog-

má�ca "Lumen Gen�um" lleva por <tulo "Universal vocación a la san�dad en la Iglesia". Y es que la san�dad no es patri-

monio de algunos pocos privilegiados. Es el des�no de todos, como fue, como lo ha sido para esa mul�tud de santos anó-

nimos a quienes hoy celebramos.�

�

8.� La san�dad cris�ana consiste en vivir y cumplir los mandamientos. “El santo no es un ángel, es hombre en carne y hue-

so que sabe levantarse y volver a caminar. El santo no se olvida del llanto de su hermano, ni piensa que es más bueno

subiéndose a un altar. Santo es el que vive su fe con alegría y lucha cada día pues vive para amar”. (Canción de Cesáreo

Gabaraín). "El santo es aquel que está tan fascinado por la belleza de Dios y por su perfecta verdad que éstas lo irán pro-

gresivamente transformando. Por esta belleza y verdad está dispuesto a renunciar a todo, también a sí mismo. Le es sufi-

ciente el amor de Dios, que experimenta y transmite en el servicio humilde y desinteresado del prójimo". (Benedicto XVI)�

9.��La san�dad se gana, se logra, se consigue, con la ayuda de la gracia, en �erra, en el quehacer y el compromiso de cada

día, en el amor, en el servicio y en el perdón co�dianos.�“El afán de cada día labra y vislumbra el rostro de la eternidad”,

escribió certera y hermosamente Karl Rhaner. El cielo, sí, no puede esperar. Pero el cielo �la san�dad� solo se gana en la

�erra.�

�

10.� Por fin, el día de Todos los Santos nos habla de que la vida humana no termina con la muerte sino que abre a la lumi-

nosa vida de eternidad con Dios. El día de Todos los Santos es la catequesis y celebración de los misterios de nuestra fe

rela�vos al final de la vida, los llamados “novísimos”: muerte, juicio, eternidad.�

�

Y por ello, al día siguiente a la fiesta de Todos los Santos, el 2 de noviembre, celebramos, conmemoramos a los difun-

tos.�Es día de oración y de recuerdo hacia ellos. Es día para saber vivir la vida según el plan de Dios. Es día, como el día, en

el que la piedad de nuestro pueblo fiel visita los cementerios.�Todo el mes de noviembre está dedicado especialmente a

The Communion of Saints�

On the Feast of All Saints, we rejoice in the victory that God has already won in the lives of the holy men and women who

have gone before us in faith. They are now fully alive in the heavenly Body of Christ. Their triumph in Him gives us hope

amidst our difficul�es.�

They also give us comfort and support. We are not alone in our struggle. We are united with them in love. For Christ’s

Body is one.�

You may recall the conversion of Paul on the road to Damascus. He heard the voice of Jesus ques�oning him, “Saul, Saul,

why are you persecu�ng me?” (Acts 9:4). Not “Why are you persecu�ng my followers?” But “Why are you perse-

cu�ng�me?” Christ and his members are one. Many parts but one living body. Branches abiding on the vine. Living stones

in the temple. Bride and bridegroom united as one flesh.�

Paul’s encounter was not simply a one�on�one personal encounter with Jesus. It was an encounter with the whole mys�-

cal reality that is the Church. The encounter changed Paul’s life was forever. His old self died, along with his desperate

striving for self�righteousness. He took on a completely new existence “in Christ” � a phrase that he went on to use 165

�mes in his leTers! He understood our existence “in Christ” as a totally new iden�ty, now no longer in isola�on, but in an

abiding communion with God and neighbor. In Romans 6 he described faith and bap�sm as causing us to die with Christ

and rise with him to new life.�

We are united in Christ in a living communion of love that far transcends the here and now. Saint Augus�ne offers a pano-

ramic view of the Church as the whole Christ united in love:�

“His Body is the Church, not this or that church, but the one that is spread throughout the world, not only that which ex-

ists now in the men and women of this present life, but includes also those members who existed before us and those

who will exist aWer us � all the way to the end of the world.� For the whole Church, made up of all the faithful (for all the

faithful are members of Christ) has in heaven that head placed over her that guides his body. Though separated in vision,

she is united as one in love.”�

The Apostles’ Creed is a prayer treasured by Catholics and Protestants alike. In it, we profess our belief in the

“communion of saints.” The La�n phrase is�sanctorum communio, words that are delighXully ambiguous. They can mean

“fellowship of holy people” as well as “sharing of holy things.” In fact, “communion of saints” means�both. When one

member of the Body suffers, all suffer. When one is exalted, all are exalted. Christ and his Bride are truly one flesh. They

share everything together.�

In our present days of darkness and division, this heavenly communion should give us great hope and encouragement.

We are not alone. We are surrounded by a great “cloud of witnesses” (Hebrews 12:1). They have already conquered in

Christ. They are now cheering us on as we run the race and fight the good fight.�

Their triumph and their love also nurtures our deepest and holiest desires � which oWen lie dormant and forgoTen, buried

beneath the stress and chaos of our lives. Chief among those desires is the virtue of hope. Chris�an hope is a deep and

intense longing for our true heavenly homeland.�

The Communion of Saints�

There are many counterfeit versions of “hope” these days � poli�cal ideologies, fantasy escapes, worldly success, or the

promise that technology can solve all our problems. These false hopes promise much but deliver liTle. They leave us dis-

appointed, as the thing�hoped�for proves not to be the answer to our heart’s deepest ques�ons.�

True hope does not disappoint. We are des�ned to be perfected in the love of Christ. If we freely cooperate with his free

giW, we will one day be strong enough and pure enough and holy enough to see God in the face and live. Mind you, He

already loves us dearly. But�we�are not yet ready to receive all that love in all the ways he would love to share it. He pre-

pares us step by step. Our capacity to receive needs to be stretched. Our desire needs to grow and grow. The more in-

tense our longing for the Lord, the more capable we become of receiving true holiness.�

OWen, it is precisely through the painful trials of life that God blesses and strengthens us the most. In the moment they

are cause for misery, but over �me they emerge as part of a larger and beau�ful story. Jesus compares the experience to

a mother in labor, who finally gives birth. Paul compares it to athletes in training, with their eyes on the prize. Scripture

frequently speaks of gold or silver plunged into the furnace, purified of all dross so that God’s glory can shine forth.�

In this life or the next, all of us are des�ned to be purified by the fire of God’s love and come to shine with the saints in

heaven. I have never heard that encounter described more beau�fully than in the words of Pope Benedict XVI:�

“…the fire which both burns and saves is Christ himself, the Judge and Savior. The encounter with him is the decisive act

of judgment. Before his gaze all falsehood melts away. This encounter with Him, as it burns us, transforms and frees us,

allowing us to become truly ourselves. All that we build during our lives can prove to be mere straw … and it collapses. Yet

in the pain of this encounter, when the impurity and sickness of our lives become evident to us, there lies salva�on. His

gaze, the touch of His heart heals us through an undeniably painful transforma�on ‘as through fire.’ But it is a blessed

pain, in which the holy power of His love sears through us like a flame, enabling us to become totally ourselves and thus

totally of God.”�

May we all draw inspira�on from the holiness of the saints. May we be unafraid of the intensity of God’s love, which is

indeed an all�consuming fire. Rather, may we be filled with true hope, abiding in God’s love un�l all his promises are ful-

filled.�

Baptism Requirements

Register your child at the parish office �

Mon � Thurs 9am�12pm & 1pm�4pm�

1. Child(ren) must not be over the age of 6.

2. Parents are asked to attend Mass regularly and participate in the

life of the church.

3. Donation of $75.00 for one child or $100.00 for two or more chil-

dren, per family.

4. Attend preparation class for the Sacrament of Baptism.

5. Bring your child’s/ren birth certificate, God parent's sacramental

certificates, and permission letter from your parish (if applica-

ble).

6. Choose appropriate Godparent(s) who is practicing the faith and

is in communion with the Catholic Church.

�� Must be 16 years of age or older

�� Have all Sacraments: Baptism, First Communion, and

Confirmation and parents must bring proof of these the

day of registration.

�� If the Godparent(s) is/are married, their Marriage must

have been celebrated in the Catholic Church and must

provide the Church Marriage & Confirmation Certifi-

cates.

�� If single, the Godparent(s) must be living a life of Chastity

and goodness and must provide certificate of 1st Holy

Communion & Confirmation.

7. Parents must be committed to raising your child in our Catholic

Faith.

When registering your child bring (bring all documents):

��Child(ren) original birth certificate, (copies are not accepted)

��$75(1 child) or $100.00(2 or more),

��Godparent’s sacramental certificates (see list above)

��Proof of Parish Membership or letter of permission to Baptize

at St. Catherine (if applicable).

Baptisms take place at 10am by Fr. Saenz at the main

church on scheduled Saturdays.
