WEEKLY GRACE NOTES Sunday, August 16, 2015 Twelfth Sunday of Pentecost
Prayer Before Worship
Almighty and everlasting God, always more ready to hear than we to pray
and always ready to give more than we either desire or deserve, pour down
on us the abundance of your mercy, forgiving us the things of which our
conscience is afraid and giving us the good things we are not worthy to ask
but through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

AUGUST WEEKLY MESSAGE During the month of August, we will explore the “I Am” statements of Jesus in John’s Gospel. God has chosen to reveal Himself to us in the created world and in His Holy Word. God wants to be in relationship with His creation. When He sent Moses to rescue His people from the hands of Pharaoh, He proclaimed His name to Moses and said: “I Am Who I Am” and when the people of Israel ask, say this: I Am has sent me to you.”
Throughout history, sin, repentance, forgiveness and restoration have been the cycle of God’s people as He restores and redeems His creation. In an ultimate act of grace and mercy, God sent His only Son to redeem mankind for all eternity. Jesus’ bold claim that “I and the Father are One” reverberated through the religious community of His day. Come with us on a journey over as we explore the “I Am” statements of Jesus found in John’s Gospel as we come to know more about the God who loves us.
August 16, 2015 - “I Am the Good Shepherd” - Knowing God’s Care What does it mean to truly care for someone or to watch over them? Jesus spoke in terms that were understood in His day when He called God’s people His sheep. Jesus spoke of being both the “Door” of the sheepfold and “The Good Shepherd” of the flock. He willingly gave His life for His sheep. He re-defined what it means to truly care for someone. Come with us this week as we follow the Good Shepherd: “Knowing God’s Care”

SUMMER SUNDAY BIBLE STUDY
Lee Strobel “Case for Christ, Faith, and Creator” series
Each session will begin with a 10 to 15 minute video clip from the
movie/documentary adaptations of the original books, followed by study
guide questions and discussion.
Place: Conference Room
Time: 10:45am
Facilitator: Kevin Hendricks
continued from page 3
August 23, 2015 - “I Am the Way, the Truth, and the Life” - Knowing God’s Way God sent His Son, who said, “follow Me.” Jesus made a bold claim stating that “No One come to the Father except through me.” At a time of great persecution in the church, Jesus was preparing His followers for His departure. How does knowing God’s way through Christ make a difference in our lives? These words were meant to assure Christ’s followers that their faith was genuine and their path was through Him: “Knowing God’s Way” August 30, 2015 - “I am the Resurrection and the Life” - Knowing God’s Certainties As Jesus attends to the death of His friend Lazarus, He assures Martha that all who believe in Him, though they physically die, will live forever. As Christians, we comfort one another with the hope we have in Christ: “Knowing God’s Certainties”

COMPASSION PREGNANCY
Compassion Pregnancy has two events coming up…
Golf Fore Life - Monday, August 31, 2015: This is our 18th year and the entire course has been reserved for our golfers.
On Sunday, October 18, we are hosting a new fundraising event called “Pearls of Wisdom.” This event, held at First Presbyterian Church-Family Life Center, 168 Cass Ave., Mt. Clemens, is a celebration of parenthood. It will feature 10 speakers from our community telling stories of how the care they received has affected them. It will be an evening of laughter, inspiration, and the poignancy that comes from being a child or a parent.
Is not far away!
This is a good time to pick up articles for the shoe boxes, since many of the items needed for school can also be used to place in the shoeboxes. Before we know it we will be filling these boxes again. Last year we were blessed to be able to send 332 through the generosity of Grace members and friends. God has richly blessed all of us to make this possible
