Dear Parent/Guardian,

Welcome back to what promises to be another exciting year at Citronelle High School. As you will see there are many new faces on campus this year, both teachers and students; and I would like to welcome each of you to the CHS family. Also, new classes are being offered as we continue to move forward by increasing expectations as well as providing more opportunities for our students. You will also hear more about our signature feature at CHS and how that will impact the future successes of our students.

I would like to express my appreciation as well for your efforts in encouraging our students to their best on the Alabama High School Grad Exam this past year. As you may have heard we made AYP this year, once again showing gains in all areas. This will be the final year for this exam to be administered, and we need to continue to show growth in all areas. With your assistance we can accomplish this task, so I encourage you to continue to push our students to put forth their best effort in preparing for and taking the grad exam. Only juniors and seniors will be required to take the grad exam this year and must pass all five parts to graduate.

We should also be excited about getting approved for a new Citronelle High School. At the last board meeting the Mobile County school Board voted to approve a $100 million dollar bond issue, with $28 million allocated to build a new high school. This has been long awaited for and we’re excited to finally get to this point. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

Finally, I invite each of you to open house on Thursday, September 6th at 6:00 in the gym. I will share additional information concerning course offerings, the signature feature and data from the past two years. Please come and be part of this event, and I look forward to working with you for another year as we continue to move Citronelle High School forward.

Interviews for the 2013-2014 Mobile Azalea Trail Court will be held in September.  Interviews are open to junior girls who have a minimum GPA of 3.5, a clean discipline record, and satisfactory attendance. If you are interested in interviewing, please see Mrs. Pippin in room 304 and listen to morning announcements for information concerning meetings and interviews.

Citronelle High School would like to welcome the new members of staff and faculty for the 2012/2013 school year.

LaRae Bedgood Whatley is joining the Science Team. She is excited to be back at her alma mater and is eager to give back to her roots. She has bee teaching for eight years and was recently teaching at Blount High School. She has a Bachelors in Environmental Science Management, an Alternative Bachelors in Secondary Education and a Masters in Education Administration.

Dana Evans has 10 years teaching experience. She lives in Semmes, Alabama with her husband, Jerry and their three boys, Dustin, Cody and Joshua. She will be teaching Special Education at CHS. She will also be coaching Girls Varsity Basketball.

Carl E.(CJ) Herring Jr. is also returning to his alma mater. He is a 2005 graduate of CHS. He graduated from the University of South Alabama in 2011. He will be teaching . He will also be joining the CHS Football Staff.

Stephen Centanni has been teaching for 11 years in the Mobile County School System He has taught Language Arts to all grades and levels. He has taught 8 years of ENG 101 at the Alabama Aviation Center in Mobile. He is the Music editor for Lagniappe: Something Extra for Mobile. He and his wife, Ivy have been married for 10 years.

Eddie Bates is returning to CHS as a Special Education teacher. His is married to his wife, Peggy and has two children. He is the pastor of Cross Point Baptist Church in Citronelle.

Pat Stewart Byrd is also joining the CHS Staff. She has worked for the School System for 9 years. She will be working in the special education department. She has two children and is happily married to Sancer Jeremy Byrd.

Teresa Sullivan is joining CHS as a SE paraprofessional. She will be working one on one with a student. This will be her 3rd year to work with this students. She has been with the school system for 7 years.

Randy Reed is excited to finally be back home as a CHS Wildcat! Returning to his alma mater is both a blessing and an opportunity to give back to my community. For the past few years he has been teaching 7th grade social studies at North Mobile, which is now one of the feeder schools for Citronelle High. This year he will begin by teaching 10th and 11th grade US History along with coaching Cross County. Now that he is back home, he is committed more than ever to help our students succeed in every aspect of their lives as we prepare them to be productive citizens. He looks forward to working with an excellent faculty to continue moving CHS forward. It's a great day to be a Wildcat!

Natasha Dykes recently taught 7th grade math at Lott Middle School. She will be teaching Algebra 1 at CHS.She enjoys traveling and tying new foods and spending time with her son, Elijah. Whe is very excited to be joining the CHS family. GO Wildcats!

SELECTION OF MEMBERSSection 1. To be eligible for membership the candidate must be a member of the sophomore, junior or senior class (sophomore class is optional).  Candidates must have been in attendance at Citronelle High School the equivalent of one semester.  They must have entered on the first day of the semester.Section 2. Candidates must have a cumulative scholastic average of at least a 3.5 unweighted.  All candidates must meet the same scholastic requirements, regardless of grade level.  Candidates shall then be evaluated on the basis of service, leadership, and character.  The following criteria will be used to determine whether a candidate is selected for membership:Scholarship:  The student must have an overall 3.5 average (unweighted) at the time of consideration for induction.  The average will not be a “rounded” average but a minimum of 3.5 unweighted.Service:  Candidates must provide documentation of service hours on the Student Activity Information Form, and must return three (3) completed Service Verification Forms by the given deadline.  At least one of the Service Verification Form must be completed by the sponsor/coach of a school activity.  Only one sporting activity can count towards the service requirement.Leadership:  Documentation of leadership skills will be provided on the Student Activity Information Form, the Classroom Teacher Evaluation of Character and Leadership Form, and the Service Verification Forms.  Character:  Candidates cannot have committed any Class B, C, or D offenses. Also, candidates may have no more than 3 Class A offenses within the past calendar year.  Information on character of candidates is also provided on the Classroom Teacher Evaluation of Character and Leadership Form. Section 3. The election of members to this chapter of the National Honor Society shall be by a majority vote of the Faculty Council.  In no case will there be fewer than five teachers evaluating the candidates.Section 4. A description of the selection procedure shall be published in an official school publication that is widely available in a timely fashion to all students and parents of the school.  The selection procedure shall be determined by the faculty council and shall be consistent with the rules and regulations of the NHS.Additionally, students selected for membership must meet the requirements to remain members. Attendance at meetings is mandatory, 1 individual and 3 group service projects must be completed each year, unweighted GPA must remain above 3.5, and members must remain in good standing within the school.
