Did you know? ~ 50th Anniversary Ford Mustang spotted!

But who gets to blow out the candles? What’s believed to be a lightly-camouflaged 50th Anniversary Ford Mustang has been spotted out on a test drive just a few weeks before its expected debut at the 2014 New York International Auto Show. The GT-spec ‘Stang features several retro styling cues to mark the occasion, including a unique grille with a horizontal chrome bar and corral around the Mustang logo, what appear to be rear quarter window louvers hidden under a black panel, and forked-spoke wheels reminiscent of the ones seen on Edsel Ford II’s custom 1965 Mustang. The car is also white, which Road & Track reports will be the only color offered on the 50th anniversary special edition, a nod to the original Mustang’s iconic Wimbledon White paint. The first Mustang was unveiled at the 1964 World’s Fair in New York on April 17th, a date that coincides perfectly with the second media preview day of this year’s New York Auto Show. And while one of the signature engines of the all-new 2015 Mustang is a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, the 5.0-liter badge on the 50th Anniversary car seems perfectly appropriate. Stay tuned for more details!!!

Did you know? ~ Mint 69 Shelby GT500 found under 40 years of dust!

From dust to dust, people and cars come and go, but sometimes the old is reborn … and out of

the dust emerges something immaculate.

A 1969 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 428 Cobra Jet is a mouthful to say but it will drop any car

enthusiasts jaw. This particular garage-find was owned and perfectly preserved by a now-

deceased automotive connoisseur.

Larry never washed the car for fear of scratching the paintjob or cause even the slightest bit of

rust. Yahoo News estimates that the only time the car was ever washed was before delivery.

Accordingly, the car is in absolute show room condition, except for a layer of dust.

This snake features a larger, 428-cubic-inch Cobra Jet engine mated to a four-speed manual

transmission, which has only run 8,500 miles in total. The spark plugs, belts, fan, and hoses

are all original. The only items that are not from 1968 are the tires.

Considering this highly collectable GT500 has sat since 1973 it’s an extreme rarity. The

Mustang was originally purchased for just $5,245 in 1969. Now, though,it should sell at auction

for over $100,000.

The car will be auctioned off by Ron Gilligan Auctioneering on April 25th.

It also looks like pack-rat owner also owned a 1971 Ford Ranchero with only 53,000 miles on

it, and get this … a 1974 Ford Econoline Custom 100 van with only 554 original miles. Both

vehicles are for sale along with a variety of other mint, perfectly maintained vehicles from the

estate.

Did you know? ~ Ford will put a Mustang atop Empire State Building!

The original 1965 Ford Mustang convertible in Wimbledon White -- the early version known to many as the 1964 1/2. Mustang went on sale on April 17, 1964 and sold more than 418,000 in the first 12 months.

The sixth-generation, redesigned 2015 Mustang.

Did you know? ~ Ford will put a Mustang atop Empire State Building!

(Photo: Ford)

If the top of the Empire State Building provided a fine climbing wall for giant gorilla, it should also be cozy

corral for a mere Mustang.

Ford said Tuesday it is planning to plant a 2015 Mustang convertible on the observation deck of one of

the world's tallest buildings, mimicking a similar stunt done 49 years ago in the same place. It marks

the half-century mark celebration for the iconic American car.

"New York is one of the greatest cities in the world, and it's the place where the Ford Mustang story began 50

years ago," says Mark Fields, Ford chief operating officer, in a statement. "We're thrilled to be visiting the

architectural landmark that has been the heart of the Manhattan skyline for 83 years with the newest

generation of the car that is the soul of Ford Motor Company."

Now, the only problem will be finding a way to get a car up 86 stories. Ford engineers are planning to take it up

the elevator -- piece by piece.

They did it before -- in 1965, dividing the car into three pieces plus the windshield. But the 2015 Mustang is

nearly seven inches longer and four inches wider than the original pony car. As a result, a lot more planning is

going into pulling off the feat. The move has to be done in six hours.

Visitors can see the new Mustang convertible on the observation deck for 54 hours from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. on

April 16 and 17, which just happens to coincide with the New York Auto Show.

FUN FORD MUSTANG FACTS

- The Mustang I Prototype was debuted on October. 7,1962 at the Watkins Glen racetrack in New York

- Ford introduced the Mustang II prototype at Watkins glen on the weekend of October. 6,1963

- The Mustang was premiered on April. 17, 1964 at New York's World Fair

- 22,000 Mustangs were sold within the first day of its release.

- Within 2 years, over one million Mustangs were sold

- The first Mustang off the assembly line was sold (by mistake) to an airplane pilot.

- By December. 31, 1964, Ford had sold 263,434 cars.

- When the one year anniversary of the Mustang rolled around, Ford had already sold 418,810 Mustangs.

- Independant Rear Suspension was actually considered for performance versions of the Mustang way back in the 60s.

- There was no 2002 edition of the Mustang Cobra.

- The 1964.5 Mustangs were not really 1964.5 models. They were considered to actually be EARLY 1965's. So, the

first digit of the VIN number (last digit of the model year) was 5, not 4.

- The first Mustang's VIN Number was 5F08F100001.

- The Fastback Mustang debuted on October. 1, 1964.

- Phil Clark is the original designer of the galloping horse logo.

- John Najjar, the original designer of the Mustang I Prototype (drawings) supposedly named his design after the P-51

Mustang airplane, but Lee Iacocca has stated a few times that it was directly named after the horse itself, not the

airplane.

- Lee Iacocca has argued that the first Mustang

- Mustang production began on March. 9, 1964.

- The one-millionth Mustang was produced on February. 23, 1966.

- The popular movie (among Mustang enthusiasts), 'Bullitt', premiered on October. 17, 1968.

- Apparently, Lee Iacocca wanted the switch-over to the Mustang II to occur in 1968, but Ford's President Bunkie

Knudsen preferred the larger Mustangs. When Bunkie Knudsen left in `69, Lee Iacocca got to work on the Mustang II.

- Even though most people say that the first Mustang to roll off the assembly line was a White Convertible, Lee Iacocca

says that the first Mustang was a hardtop.

- The 1974 Mustang II sold 3 times the amount of Mustangs that were sold in 1973.

- The first 1993 Mustang Cobra was built on December. 17, 1992.

- In the late 80s, Ford was considering moving the Mustang over to front-wheel drive. Thankfully, the loyal Mustang

fans kept Ford from doing so. The Probe was the replacement that Ford produced.
