Our Junior Netball girls finished last term
impressively, beating Hampton Academy
9-2 and 4-1. Year 7 finished the league in
second position behind Waldegrave. Well
done everyone!

Cyber Security Course
Through the Smallpiece Trust, we were given two places for Year 9 scientists to
attend a special course during the Easter holidays. Both of the chosen students
had a very rewarding time as demonstrated by the report below:
I was invited by the school to go on a course about Cyber Security, hosted at
Royal Holloway University.
I stayed for two nights at the start of the Easter holidays and worked with
specialists, as well as in a team with other students, learning how to crack codes, hack into websites
and identify weaknesses in their security. Using techniques which they taught us, our team was able to
crack a cipher with 403,291,461,126,605,635,584,000,000 possible outcomes in under a day!
The course was very entertaining and everyone was very sociable. I am very grateful to the school for
offering me this opportunity. Max Manning, Year 9
Oxford University Trip
On the 23rd & 24th of March Rachel, Dorsa, Megan and I went on a taster trip to Oxford Universi-
ty, staying at Oriel College. Our stay was highly informative and allowed us to experience life at
Oxford. We had taster sessions, in either arts or sciences in order to understand Oxford’s innova-
tive teaching approach. I tried the arts sessions including law, politics and history; covering topics
such as the purpose of charity and the case of the conjoined twins. We were fortunate enough to be
staying in university accommodation which was beautiful. My room had a great view and an en-
suite. The meals were tasty and we even had one evening meal served to us, as is their tradition.
The trip was interesting and certainly taught me a lot about Oxford.

them with your friends, as well as writing book reviews.

John.
Leah and her family have been
invited to receive her award at an
event held in Richmond on 19th
May, where the author Paul
Dowswell will present the awards
and give a talk about how he
became a writer. Paul will also be
answering questions and signing
copies of his books, Eleven
Eleven, Auslander and Red
Shadow. This event is open to all.

Ski Trip 2015
50 students and 6 members of staff spent the
first week of the Easter holidays skiing in
Claviere, Italy.
Beautiful blue skies and quiet slopes made for
perfect conditions, and skiers of all abilities
were very quickly making fantastic progress.
By day three the novices were confidently
throwing themselves down red runs, and the
more experienced skiers were honing their
technique. On the last day the advanced
group had the opportunity to ski over into
France where there were yet more black runs
for them to attempt.
Our wonderful PGL rep made sure we were
kept entertained in the evenings by
organising a visit to a traditional pizzeria, a
fashion show, a treasure hunt and an awards
evening, where students were presented with
certificates by their ski instructors.
The instructors also took this opportunity to
mention to the teachers how impressed they
were by the Christ’s School students, saying it
was a pleasure to spend the week with such
polite, positive and friendly children. The
students were an absolute credit to the
school throughout the trip.
After an amazing week, we arrived back at
school on Saturday, exhausted but (despite
Mr Simpson’s best efforts!) injury-free.

The Year 7 French
trip will leave on
Friday 17th April
and return on
Wednesday 22nd
April.
Richmond May Fair
Saturday 9th May
This is a really fun day out for the whole family and the PTA will
once again be hosting the Christ’s School Marquee. We need to
organise an adult and children’s tombola, a silent auction, burgers,
tea, cakes, plants and more. It’s a great way to advertise our school
to the local community. Please contact [email protected] if you
would like to be involved. Your support is greatly appreciated.
