Pastoral Sharings December 2019
This was my question the other day when
I realized Thanksgiving was the next week and Advent was set to begin a few days later.
Not to mention I have been here in the community for a year.
Time is one of those things that is relative yet
we mark our lives by it. We look at ourselves in relation to what we have done in the amount of time we have lived.
Am I where I thought I would be at this time of my life? Did I hope to accom-
plish more by this age?
The problem is then that we can waste so much time worrying about the time we have wasted. Instead let us think more of it along the lines that we are
where we are because God needs us where and when and with whom we are.
Don’t ask me why. God only knows. Seriously!
Sometimes, time leaves us regretting the past. Something we didn’t accomplish. Someone we hurt, Something we did.
What we need to do is to have those wounds healed. Have the regrets forgiven.
More forward from those wasted days. That is the purpose of Christ.
Isaiah 61:1-2 tells us: The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me,
because the LORD has anointed me; he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed,
to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and release to the prisoners; 2 to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favour, and the day of vengeance of our God;
to comfort all who mourn; Let us celebrate the Child who is the Light!
Join us through Advent to prepare!
Remember worship times change in December [SEE BELOW].
Pastor Kent
On December 28th, at Our
Savior’s and the 29th at Cen-
tral and the United Methodist
Church, we will have a Service
of Healing. In this service we
will have opportunity to re-
lease those things from the
past year (or anytime) which
keep us bound and unable to
move forward. It is also a
time for us to pray for those
who suffer from conscience
and error. Join us for this
service.
Where has the time flown?

Sometimes people wonder when they should call or contact their pastor. Call your pastor when . . . .
You're going into the hospital. Please tell your pastor when you going into the hospital, or if a family member is. HIPAA doesn’t allow for facilities to share info.
You would like a prayer said for you. Your pastor is always happy to do this. (Please note: Pastors need permission to include names in our prayers during a Sunday morning
service. REMEMBER: Our powerful and loving God answers prayer!
You are not able to come to church for more than a month. Whether from illness or surgery and you can't get to church, let your pastor know. He or she will come to you, pray with you, have a short devotion, and bring you the Lord's Supper. Your pastor simply wants
you to stay connected to God's Word and his Sacrament.
You have a question or concern about something at church. Let your pastor know and try to resolve it.
Marriage issues unresolved after one month probably are not going to go away without some help. Don't wait! Pastoral counseling will focus on spiritual issues. Your pastor is able
to apply God's powerful Word to your relationship!
Your conscience is troubling you and you want assurance of God's grace. God does not leave us alone to struggle with temptation and guilt. He invites us to confess our sin and receive his forgiveness. In strict confidence you can confess your sin to your pastor and
receive assurance of God's forgiveness and absolution delivered personally to you. Even if no particular sin is troubling you. It's faith-building to receive God's forgiveness at any time.
You're wrestling with a spiritual issue or have a question about something the Bi-ble says. Questions often come up when you're talking religion with coworkers and friends.
Call your pastor if you have a question about a Bible teaching. Talk with him about it. If you encounter something in a sermon, Bible study, or in your own personal Bible reading, let
your pastor know. Your pastor loves to discuss God's Word and to see people grow in their understanding of it.
You have a friend or relative who wants to know more about Jesus. Please pass their names on to your pastor. He would love to invite them to his Bible class and meet with
them to share the hope that we have in Christ. Assure your friend or relative that your pas-tor is not near as scary as he looks and offer to come along with them to meet him. Assure them that this is simply to listen to them and to share with them the truth and beauty of
God's Word.
This is not an exhaustive list. Certainly call your pastor at other times too. You can view this list as 'this is when my pastor wants me to call him.'

Our Savior’s Lutheran
Church Council Meeting - November 11, 2019
Members present: Ruth Benedict, Har lan Helgren, Ir is Runck, Deb Nelson, Val Rieke, Ryan Lee, Carol Johnson
and Pastor Kent.
Members absent: J ane Steinbach, Dolly Albrecht, Tom Runck and Diane Dreier
President Ryan Lee called the meeting to order
Devotions: From the John the Baptist, “I am the voice crying in the wilderness; make straight the way of the Lord.” We are
called as churches, individually and cooperatively, we are called to work for justice in all areas of community, government and in the
courts of law.
Secretary’s report: motion made by Deb Nelson and seconded by Ruth Benedict to accept the minutes with a cor rection to the
notes of October 14th to have Jerry Pelzel work on the microphone instead of Jerry Munsell.
Treasurer’s Report: Discussion was held regarding how the Quick Books system has been categor ized and how the number s
are being presented. The balance sheet is not reporting accurately. While the totals are probably correct, some of the items reporting
as income and expenses should be recategorized. Motion made by Harlan Helgren and seconded by Ruth Benedict to accept the re-
port as printed, subject to changes needed on the reporting and also subject to audit.
Pastor’s Report for November 2019
1. Confirmation students watched the Martin Luther movie followed by discussion October 30 and November 6 th.
2. Participation of students in worship is good, but not great.
3. Everything is going well with the United Methodist Church. Positive feedback from many members of the congregations
Old Business
Call Process update for Pastor Kent – Special meeting will be held on November 17, 2019 to vote to call Pastor Kent. Harlan
will present Pastor Kent at the special meeting. Thank you to Carol for working with the Synod on coordination of the call
process.
Meals on Wheels – still looking for someone to coordinate drivers and the program for February, June and October. This will be
on the agenda for the annual meeting. Sign up on the clipboard.
Microphone System – Cordless headset is still a problem with the sound quality. Ryan will check into talking to an expert at
Rhapsody Music in Mankato. He will pick up some optional microphones to try out during the church services.
New Business
December Community Meal – It was agreed to skip for December. Carol will let the newspaper know.
Pastor spoke about a request for a baptism. It is the responsibility of the called Pastor that he/she should perform the sacraments
in the parish to which they are called. Synod protocol dictates these matters.

day of the prior month. Example, Our Savior’s Lutheran is scheduled to do Saturday services during the month of December.
Sunday falls on December 1st. Our Savior’s will hold worship on Saturday, November 30th. We will discuss this at the upcom-
ing joint council meeting.
