Committee will host a reception at Arts on Grand, 408 Grand Ave, on Thursday, November 17, from 7-9 PM. The celebration includes recognition of the first SPACE Public Art Award recipient, Jesse Bogenrief, and his art piece to be displayed at Abben Cancer Center. Jesse plans to create the piece in honor of his mother, Jeanne Bogenrief, who passed away from cancer earlier this year. It is Jesse’s hope that this work of art he creates in her memory will be a source of comfort and peace to those going through their own battle with cancer. The gallery will festooned with special festival trees, paintings, tree decorations, yarn art, jewelry, cards, pillows, wooden toys, decoys, books and more. We are excited to welcome artists Jean Tennant, Bruce Morrison, Kris Hackbart-Morlock, Nancy Schoenewe, Lee Schoenewe, Bev Rice, Jim Schooley, Cynthia Lindahl, Pat Thomsen, Timothy Arand-McIlrath, Lissa Potter, Pam Harp, Connie Hankens, Haley Tardiff, Sue Biederman, Jesse Bogenrief, Emily O’Loughlin, Marti Zinn and Katie Hughes. Tickets are available to purchase from the Spencer Hospital Gift Shop, Design Masters, The Hen House, Carricks, Clay County Heritage Center, Del’s Garden Center and, of course, Arts on Grand! We wish to thank the following individuals for participating in the tour - Neal and Kitty Conover, Nyle and Lynn Dotson, Tim and Jan Edmonson, Tom and Marianne Fuchsen and Doug and Mary Marske. You are also invited to bring a child to visit Santa at the Spencer Area Activities Center on the morning of December 3rd from 9 to 11 AM. We are pleased to offer free photos with Santa, as well as fun crafts and activities! Join us Saturday, December 3rd for a day filled with fun and holiday cheer!

Arts on Grand’s Homecoming a Great Success! Thank you to everyone who came for the AOG Homecoming! The evening featured a variety
of soups and chili created by AOG board members and employees. Cupcakes by Katie Hughes were also featured! We had an evening of good food and good fellowship.
The Brass Buddies entertained us for an hour!. The quintet -Tom Rutt, Corbet Butler, Sarah Jackson, Julie Forney, and Rod Shedenhelm, was accompanied by Lois Morris, and Stephen Baker on the piano. They played a variety of musical pieces, from classical to modern, including memorable pieces “Instant Concert” and “Stars and Stripes Forever”. It was a fun concert and enjoyed by all!
A big thank you again to all who attended, to those who brought food and to our fantastic performers. It was a great night and we look forward to next year!
The Spencer art scene lost a talented artist in October. Mel Myers, former SHS art teacher, set up his ceramic studio business, Clay County Clay, after his retirement and created many unique hand carved vases, lidded jars, casseroles, platters and plates.
Music in the GalleryMusic in the Gallery continues with an
evening with Chris and Allison Oyler on November 18 at 7:00 pm. Everyone welcome. Folks are welcome to bring snacks and beverages to enjoy and share!
We are always thrilled to bring you live entertainment in the Gallery! Donations are always welcome and will be split between the artists and Arts on Grand to allow us to continue this fun event series. Thank you for supporting live music in Spencer!
Letter from the Director, The time will soon be upon us when our thoughts will be on hot cocoa,
turkey, turkey leftovers and Santa Claus. Our Christmas in the Gallery has started and we look forward to seeing the new fall and Christmas items our artists and craftsman have created for this year. We are looking forward to the festival of trees and the Tour of Homes in early December. With the new year fast approaching, we look forward to hosting Darren Maurer the Iowa Duck Stamp winner and to the Lilly Oncology on Canvas Exhibit. The 2017 exhibit schedule will be presented in Decembers newsletter. The
Arts on Grand membership renewal will start in January and we want to thank all our members, supporters, volunteers and sponsors for your continued support.
