Principal’s Message Christmas Carols 2017
Given that we have been planning this Friday’s P&C led school Christmas Carols since
the beginning of the year, it is exciting that they have finally arrived! As of today, the
weather forecast includes a medium chance of rain. Due to the amount of organisation
involved, we are unable to postpone the event and therefore Carols is going ahead
rain, hail or shine. We really appreciate your support in coming along to this special
whole community event.
We will make a decision about how best to proceed based on the prevailing weather conditions on Friday morning (check the Skoolbag app for updates). If there is only light drizzle and no threat of lightning, we will proceed as planned. Hopefully, all will be well and we can go ahead but we’d appreciate your patience and flexibility if the conditions are changeable.
Looking forward to seeing you in all your Christmas merriment on Friday. David Holland

The Key Things You Need To Know Each class will perform one Christmas carol on the stage (brought in especially for this
event)
The evening will get under way at 5pm with craft stalls, rides/amusements, activities
for the students and a BBQ; however families are free to arrive at whatever time suits
you
Volunteers – please check your schedule task and time slot on page 7 and be sure to
arrive on time to help on Friday
Although all of the teachers will be in attendance, children must be accompanied at all
times by their parents/carers
Children are not permitted to enter the school’s grounds unaccompanied by an adult
The Carols themselves won’t commence until 7:30pm to allow plenty of time for
working parents to participate. Please try to arrive no later than 7:15pm
Food vouchers and amusement bands will be sent home with students on Friday
Families are encouraged to bring either camping chairs, a picnic rug or tarp to sit on
There will be a designated area near the front of the stage for picnic rugs/tarps
Camping chairs will be permitted beyond that area
Please note that alcohol is not permitted on school grounds and it would be advisable
to bring some form of mosquito repellent
There will also be performances by our preschool students and choir
Glow sticks will be available for sale on the night
Feel free to get into the spirit by wearing Christmas attire if you wish!
Presentation Day Tomorrow, we will be hosting our annual Presentation Day assembly. The assembly will start in the hall at 9:30
and conclude at approximately 11:00am. Parents are invited to join us as we celebrate the students’
achievements in 2017. Classroom teachers will be presenting 5 class awards (6 for composite classes). The
awards will include: Academic Achievement, Citizenship, Most Improved and two others will be Teacher’s
Choice. There will also be a number of special whole-school awards and we will present both the School and
House Captains for 2018 with their badges. The assembly will conclude with a short video presentation with
highlights from our year. Students must wear full school uniform. Year 6 are asked NOT to wear their special Yr
6 shirt on this occasion; normal school polo please. Join us if you can.
House Captains 2018
Last Tuesday, all students from Years 2-6 were asked to vote for their House Captains for 2018. After the votes
were collated and counted, we are pleased to announce and congratulate the following students:
Arunta – Charlie Gibson & Tegan McCabe Myall – Blake Mitchell & Summah McPherson Trawalla – Harrison Bowdern & Layla Vidler Wallaroi – Connor Bashford & Taylor Robertson
Each of these students will be presented with their House Captain badges this Wednesday at the Presentation Day assembly.
Student Reports – Semester 2
The students’ Semester 2 reports are now complete and will be sent home with each child this Thursday. Please
note: the envelopes are addressed to parents and carers, students are not permitted to open their reports
themselves. We would encourage parents to share the report with your child after you have read it. It is a great
opportunity to encourage them for the successes they have had and support them with the areas that are still
developing. If you have any questions after reading the report, please speak to your child’s classroom teacher in
the first instance.
Finalising Outstanding Payments
With only a week and a half remaining of the school year, all outstanding school payments are now OVERDUE. It
is important that these payments are finalised before the end of the school year. If your family is experiencing
difficulty and is unable to address outstanding money owed, please make an appointment to discuss your
circumstances with Mr Holland

Parent Helpers and Volunteers Morning Tea
In 2017, as in previous years, our school has been very fortunate to have the valued assistance of many parent
helpers and volunteers. To say thank you for your assistance, the staff would like to put on and cater for a
special celebration. It will be held at 1:30pm on Monday 11th December in the school library. Invitations should
already have come home via the students last week. If you have volunteered or helped in our school this year, in
ANY capacity, we would be delighted if you could join us for this special celebration in your honour. To those of
you who have helped or volunteered this year, but are unable to make it for this event– we thank you sincerely
for your kind and generous support. Hopefully, you will be able to help out and volunteer in 2018 as well.
Class Party Days
Parents are reminded to return permission notes and payment for the end of year class party day activities
scheduled for next Wednesday. Payment and signed permission notes are due this Friday the 8th December.
Students, who have not paid and returned permission notes, will not be eligible to participate.
Missing library books
After completing the library stocktake last week, Mrs Conrick has indicated that there are a number of library
books that are missing; suspected lost. This week, families whose children have not returned books have
received a phone call seeking your assistance to locate the missing book/s. Any assistance you can provide in
locating them would be appreciated. Families that have been unable to locate missing library books will receive
an invoice to cover the cost of replacement.
Final Home Reading Reminder
Next Monday is the final day in which students can bring in their home reading journals to record the total
number of nights read. As was indicated at the beginning of the year, all students that have reached or
superseded the 140 night reading milestone will be invited to join Mr Holland in the hall for a special celebration
next Thursday 14th December. Students that reach the 180 night milestone will receive a special certificate in
acknowledgement of their extraordinary effort. Well done to all those that reach 140 nights or more.
Year 6 Orientation Day
Just a reminder for parents of students heading to Cardiff High for Year 7 in 2018. Following today’s Year 6
orientation day, there is a parent information session this evening from 5.00pm-7:00pm. As well as general
information about transition to high school, there will be a uniform display and parents will be able to purchase
book packs, calculators, aprons and various other apparel. Light refreshments will also be provided. We’d
strongly encourage all families to do their best to get along to this evening.

Students’ final day & Year 6 clap out
Just a reminder that the students’ final day of the 2018 school year is next Friday 15th December. There will be a
clap out for all of our outgoing Year 6 students at approximately 2:40pm on the basketball court. All families are
welcome to join us to farewell our Year 6 students if you wish.
Second hand uniforms Please be reminded that our office staff manage second hand uniform stock to assist families in need. As we
come to the end of the school year, if there are any families that are leaving the school, or that have children
heading to high school – we would welcome donations of school uniform items that are still in good condition
with plenty of wear left in them. If you have items that you would like to donate, please wash them and hand
them in at our office. Your generosity is appreciated.

Cardiff South Public School
Primary Ethics provides the opportunity for NSW public primary school students who don’t attend scripture classes (SRE) to participate in philosophical ethics classes. We have a few vacancies for volunteers to teach Years K-6 ethics classes. The classes teach children how to approach ethical issues and develop their capacity for considered moral judgement, which will enable them to respond more thoughtfully to many of the problems and issues they will face in their lives. Volunteer Ethics Teachers are trained to deliver our age-appropriate curriculum every week and to use the accompanying learning and teaching materials. For more information, please contact: David Holland [email protected] or Mellissa Poteris - Ethics Coordinator for Cardiff South Public School [email protected]
