AD 40 (Rancho Cucamonga) represents one of the best legislative pickup opportunities in the state for Democrats. As of April 19, Republicans outnumber Democrats by only 477 voters. During the last Presidential Election, Democrat Russ Warner lost the Assembly seat by less than 1% to then Assemblymember Mike Morell. President Barack Obama defeated Mitt Romey in the district by a margin of 8.4% in 2012, and Governor Jerry Brown carried the seat in 2010.
