Christie Cannon Shatters 3 Real Estate Myths

Virtually everyone has dealt with a real estate agent at some point or another, either

while buying or selling a home or while discussing the sale of property. Yet not everyone

understands the real estate industry, and some myths about it persist.

Christie Cannon is here to share 3 pervasive myths about real estate and the

corresponding truths about each:

1. The agent with the most listings is the best. While there is no substitute for experience,

one must be cautious that an agent hasn’t taken on too many properties. It is important to

make sure the agent has a successful & proven team to support you in your goal. You

don’t want to become simply a number or a name to your real estate agent; you want

their team to know and care about your interests.

2. Real estate agents are becoming obsolete. Even Fannie Mae recognizes that “homes

sold by agents typically sell at a higher price and spend less time on the market”. While

some homeowners do choose to sell by owner, the stress and possibility of failing are too

high for most, and in the end many end up relying on real estate agents. Real estate is

often an owner’s largest single financial asset; work with the best advocate you can.

3. There is a set strategy to making an offer. The method of negotiation should be

skillfully crafted to meet the needs of each client & property. Experience is a critical

factor in the success of negotiation. A seller or buyer may elect any price they choose,

often seemingly taken from nowhere  — experience & knowledge is best defense from an

unreasonable price or a poor offer.
