A Light in the Darkness

A Light in the Darkness – NT - 7A Light in the Darkness – NT - 7 Dark clouds hovering over

earth — Enslaved by the forces of evil, God’s good earth was enveloped in darkness.

Manger scene — Into this darkness, the Redeemer came.

A Light in the Darkness – NT - 7A Light in the Darkness – NT - 7 Golden light surrounding the

Christ child — As the Word made flesh, as authentic man, as spokesman to distortion, as teacher, and as Savior, this herald and Redeemer from God brought the divine light of the ages to bear upon the shadows that robbed mortals of life and light. Darkness was dispersed and shadows dispelled.

A Light in the Darkness – NT - 7A Light in the Darkness – NT - 7

Cross and thorns — A sinful people, angered by the invasion of God’s light into human affairs, led the Christ to a cross and crucified him.

White clouds and beam of light (upper center) — God, however, turned this evil deed into a victory.

A Light in the Darkness – NT - 7A Light in the Darkness – NT - 7

Infant hands and crucified hands — By divine-ordained plan, the tiny hands of an infant, born in Bethlehem’s manger, reached out and found a cross on which to bear the sins of the world.

Golden crown — Now and forever Christ is king because of a cross. Through his suffering and death on this instrument of torture, Christ redeemed the lost and ushered believers into a kingdom which has no end.

A Light in the Darkness – NT - 7A Light in the Darkness – NT - 7

Ring of light encircling globe — In his life, his death, and his resurrection, Christ demonstrated that he was what he claimed to be, “the light of the world.”

IN JERUSALEM (Acts 1:1–7:60)

Three spires within walled city — The Jerusalem experiences accomplished three significant things for the early fellowship.

First spire — The fellowship was empowered.

Second spire — The fellowship increased in number.

Christ the Lord – NT - 9Christ the Lord – NT - 9 Third spire — The fellowship

was unified and dispersed by persecution.

IN JUDEA AND SAMARIA (Acts 8:1–12:25)

Arched doorway in city wall and pathway to green pastures — Through a new understanding gained in the Jerusalem experience, the old idea of separation begins to break down, and the witness is carried to the Samaritans.

Christ the Lord – NT - 9Christ the Lord – NT - 9 Broken portion of city wall

— Second degree breakdown of separation takes hold as the message is brought directly to the Gentiles.

TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH (Acts 13:1–28:31)

Globe circumscribed by light — The message of Christ’s lordship is proclaimed to the whole world.

Christ the Lord – NT - 9Christ the Lord – NT - 9 The open book — Gripped

by the total message which Jesus loosed upon the earth, the followers of Christ proclaim him to be:

1. more than example2. more than teacher3. more than friend4. more than Savior

Kristòs ‘O Kúrios — Christ was, is, and ever shall be, no less than Lord, Sovereign, and King!
