From the Pastor’s Desk

This weekend we welcome representatives from the CatholicFoundation who are eager to share with us information abouttheir organization. For those who are not familiar with theCatholic Foundation, its main purpose is to establish andmanage assets within the Diocese of Columbus, providingperpetual funding for parishes, schools, and ministries. As Ihave mentioned on a number of occasions in previous bulletins,the Catholic Foundation has supported Christ the Kingsignificantly over the years. I am grateful for the foundation’swork and pray that more of our parishioners, with an eye toaddressing the long-term needs of our church, collaborate withthis worthwhile organization.

Allow me to comment briefly on the Building Bridges event thattook place last Sunday afternoon. Several different countrieswere represented – we had parishioners from the United States,El Salvador, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico – andeveryone who attended had a thoroughly enjoyable time. It hasbecome apparent to me that the individuals who attend theBuilding Bridges events are themselves “bridges” within ourcommunity. That is, their willingness to engage othersparishioners has helped us connect the various ages,ethnicities, and cultures that are found at Christ the King. Iappreciate those who are continuing this work of integration (notallowing language barrier to deter them!), and I encourage youto participate in the next Building Bridges event.

Christ the King Blood Drive is coming up next Sunday, October 26,from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Scheduling will be after every Mass thisweekend. Walk-ins will be welcome on the 26th as well. (This event isin English.)

Black Catholic Ministries 2014 Revival will be at Christ the KingChurch on November 3, 4, and 5. The Reverend Maurice J. Nutt willlead the Revival each night at 7:00 p.m. (This event is in English.)

Christ the King Women’s Club invites all to attend Aunt Hattie’sLuncheon on Sunday, November 9, in the All Saints Academy gym.This luncheon is a longstanding parish event which builds parish spiritand benefits parish charities, including the Family Life Christmas GivingTree. The Bishop Griffin Center also benefits. We hope you will join usfor good food and fellowship – all for a worthwhile cause. Bring yourfriends, your families, and your neighbors! Doors will open at 11:00a.m. for a baked good sale and chances on a large raffle and rafflebaskets. The large raffle consists of $400 in assorted merchant giftcards, a small flat screen TV, and a handmade blanket. (No luncheontickets are necessary to view items and purchase these chances.) Thenthe luncheon will begin with a salad bar at 11:30 a.m. and will include abuffet lunch at noon. Luncheon tickets are being sold in the vestibuleafter Mass (before the 12:30 p.m. Mass) through Sunday, November 2.The price is $16 for adults and $9 for children. Raffle tickets will beavailable in the vestibule. Purchased raffle tickets and money can beplaced in an envelope marked “Women’s Club” and placed in thecollection basket, returned to the parish office, or brought to the eventon November 9. Please consider filling a gift basket to be raffled,donating a gift card, or baking something for the baked goods sale.Small items for door prizes will be also accepted. Este fin de semana les damos la bienvenida a los representantes de laFundación Católica, quienes están ansiosos por compartir con nosotrosinformación sobre su organización. Para los que no están muyfamiliarizados con la Fundación Católica, su principal propósito esestablecer y administrar bienes dentro de la Diócesis de Columbus yproveer ayuda permanente a las parroquias, escuelas, y ministerios.Como he mencionado varias veces en boletines anteriores, laFundación Católica ha ayudado a Christ the King significativamente através de los años. Estoy muy agradecido por el trabajo de la fundacióny pido para que más de nuestros feligreses, teniendo en cuenta lasnecesidades de la iglesia a largo plazo, colaboren con estaorganización que de verdad vale la pena.

Permítanme comentar brevemente sobre el evento ConstruyendoPuentes que tuvo lugar el domingo pasado. Hubo representación devarios países diferentes – tuvimos feligreses de los Estados Unidos, ElSalvador, la Republica Dominicana, y México – y cada uno de los queasistieron pasaron una tarde completamente agradable. Me parece quelas personas que vienen a los eventos de Construyendo Puentes son“puentes” ellos mismos dentro de la comunidad. Es decir, su voluntad deinvolucrar a otros feligreses nos ha ayudado a relacionarnos condiferentes edades, etnias, y culturas que se encuentran en Christ theKing. Aprecio a los que están continuando esta obra de integración (¡sinpermitir que la barrera del lenguaje los desanime!), y los animo aparticipar en el próximo evento de Construyendo Puentes.

All Saints Academy Catholic School

Employment opportunity: All Saints Academy is looking to hire a part-time custodian for afternoons and evenings. This position will alsohave occasional weekend duties. The tasks include cleaning thebuilding at the end of the school day, setting up for events, and tearingdown after events. The pay is $10/hour at 20 hours/week.
