Feast of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ Congratulations to the men shown in this column. They were ordained to the priesthood of Jesus Christ on Saturday, June 6 for service in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. May they have a long and fruit filled ministry among the holy People of God.

CGS Anniversary Today is the anniversary of the dedication of our church here at Christ the Good Shepherd (CGS), 37 years ago on June 7, 1978.

Pastoral Council The present Pastoral Council has been faithfully serving the needs of CGS for many years. After consultation with them, we have come to the decision that it is time to begin the process of discerning a new pastoral council. Look for more information in the coming weeks about the process of this discernment. I will offer the qualifications for those who may serve on this council as well as explain how the process will take place. We wish to thank all of those who have so wonderfully served the community of CGS in the past on the council and look forward to their wisdom as they serve in other capacities in our faith community.

Liturgical Ministers There are MANY ways to serve the Lord in ministry. One of those ways in through liturgical ministry. That is, serving as a minister of hospitality, usher, lector, extraordinary minister of holy Communion, sacristan, cantor, choir, musician, altar server, art/environment, lay presiders of prayer, and probably more that I have forgotten. All of these ministers undergo training to assist them in effective ministry. They have felt the call of the Holy Spirit to use the talents and abilities that God gave them to assist us in our worship. Today we are commissioning those who are called to assist with the distribution of holy Communion, both in Mass as well as visiting the sick and the shut-in who are not able to attend Mass. They are called extraordinary because the “ordinary” ministers of holy communion are priests and deacons. When a parish does not have enough of these ministers, it may commission laity to assist.

Keys to the Kingdom CGS has an issue of too many keys! Over the years, locks to doors have been changed resulting in a multiplication of keys. Also, many people have keys to many different doors and there is no log book noting who has keys to what. CGS is blessed with a wonderful maintenance staff who is here any time there are activities scheduled. In my mind, it eliminates the need for people having keys, since the doors can be opened ahead of time when an event is being planned. In the coming weeks, we will be re-keying ALL of the locks here at CGS. If you have a key and are concerned about this, please see Mary Spinks, Business Manager. This project is happening as a matter of good stewardship, responsibility and security.

Concilio Pastoral El actual Concilio Pastoral ha servido fielmente a las necesidades de CGS durante muchos años. Después de consultar con ellos, hemos llegado a la decisión que ha llegado el momento de comenzar el proceso de discernimiento para un nuevo concilio pastoral. Para obtener más información sobre el proceso de este discernimiento. Ministros litúrgicos Hay muchas maneras de servir al Señor en el Ministerio. Una de esas maneras es a través del ministerio litúrgico. Es decir, sirviendo como ministro de la hospitalidad, hujieres, proclamador, ministro extraordinario de la Sagrada Comunión, sacristán, cantor, coro, músico, monaguillo, arte/ambiente, ministro laico que guíe la oración, y probablemente más que he olvidado. De estos ministros reciben una formación para ayudarles a tener un ministerio más eficaz; ellos han sentido el llamado del Espíritu Santo para utilizar sus talentos y habilidades que Dios les dio para asistirnos en nuestro Rito. Hoy estamos comisionando aquellos llamados para ayudar con la distribución de la Sagrada Comunión, en la misa, así como visitar a los enfermos y los que no pueden salir de casa para asistir a Misa. Se llaman extraordinarias debido a que los ministros "ordinarios" de la Sagrada Comunión son sacerdotes y diáconos. Cuando una parroquia no tiene suficiente se comisionan a laicos para ayudar.

Llaves del Reino CGS tiene un problema de ¡demasiadas! llaves. Al pasar los años, han cambiado las cerraduras de puertas dando lugar a una multiplicación de llaves. Además, muchas personas tienen llaves de muchas de las puertas y no hay ningún libro de registro observando quién tiene llaves de que. CGS está bendecido con un personal maravilloso de mantenimiento que está presente en todo momento que hay actividades programadas. Yo pienso que elimina la necesidad de tener llaves, ya que las puertas se abren con tiempo cuando se planea un evento con tiempo. En las próximas semanas, se cambiaran todas llaves en CGS.
