Palm Sunday “Blessed is He who comes in
the name of the Lord!”
Mark 11:9
April 14, 2019 © DIOCESAN
Palm Sunday In today‟s Gospel, we experience Jesus as the „suffering servant‟. His suffering unto death brings eternal life to the human family. St. Francis de Sales
reflects on this event: “The most powerful reason for Jesus‟ death is to fill the human spirit with God‟s love. Out of death has come life, the wondrous paradox, which the world does not understand. He not only died a cruel death to bring God‟s love to us, but he also suffered fear, terror, abandonment, and inner depression such as never had and never shall have an equal. He did this so that we too may persevere in pursuing divine love.” Jesus‟ human feelings left his entire heart exposed to sorrow and anguish. For this reason he cries out: “My God, why have you forsaken me?” Mount Calvary is the mount of lovers. On Calvary death, life and love intermingle. Out of love Jesus chose death on a cross so that we might live as a child of God and possess eternal love. Christian wisdom consists in choosing rightly. Let us choose to empty ourselves of our selfish desires and loves, so that we may be filled with God‟s love, which gives rise to new life in us. We ought to consecrate every moment of our lives to the divine love of Our Savior‟s death. If injured by others, look often on Christ Jesus, crucified, forsaken and overwhelmed, by every kind of anguish. Then think of the many people who are incomparably more afflicted than you are and say: Are not my hardships roses in comparison with those, who without help, assistance, or relief live a continual death, burdened by afflictions infinitely greater than mine? When all things fail us, when our distress is at its height, say the final words of Jesus on the cross: “Into Your hands I commend my spirit.” How happy we will be when we entrust ourselves totally into God‟s hands! In doing all things for the glory of God, we will do all things well.

Tenebrae Service On Palm Sunday, April 14, at 8:00 p.m., a Tenebrae Service will be held at St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 101 W High Street, Kittanning. The Tenebrae Service is a very beautiful and moving presentation that includes readings, music, and drama.
Tenebrae is a Latin word meaning “darkness”, or “shadows”. The readings and songs help us to reflect upon the
suffering, dying and death of Jesus. The most significant feature of this service is the gradual extinguishing of the
lights. We hope that you will begin Holy Week by joining us as we experience together only a small portion of Christ’s pain
and suffering the day of his Crucifixion. All are welcome.

EVERY 40 SECONDS, SOMEONE IN THE U.S. IS HAVING A STROKE!
Stroke Scan Plus will be available for Christ, Prince of Peace & St Lawrence Partner Parishioners on Saturday,
May 11, 2019 at Divine Redeemer School to provide life-saving, wellness ultrasound screenings. It is important to perform preventive maintenance for ourselves yearly. Do
you have high blood pressure or high cholesterol, diabetes, or a family history of heart disease, stroke,
abdominal aneurysm or internal cancers? If so, do not miss this opportunity for early detection of a possibly serious disease. These screenings are typically NOT
performed at your annual check-up, and insurance companies may not pay for them unless you are
symptomatic. Diagnostic versions of these screenings cost thousands of dollars in a hospital. Stroke Scan Plus will
be offering them to you for $159 for all 7 combined ultrasound screenings (Stroke, AAA, AFIB &
organs). Insurance is NOT necessary and appointments are limited. Stroke Scan will be available at the church for you to register on May, 4 & 5, 2019 or please call 832-437-
7355 or toll free 1-866-935-7226 to schedule an appointment today for you or a loved one. The screenings will take place in/at the School’s Cafeteria. Prevention is
your key to quality health! www.strokescan.com.
In the Friday, April 5th edition of the Leader Times, they stated that Christ, Prince of Peace/Diocese of Greensburg purchased the property known as 800-802 Fourth Avenue in the Borough of Ford City in the amount of $79,157.00 This amount is incorrect. The amount stated in the Leader Times was the Fair Market Value appraisal. The correct amount of the purchase was $50,000 plus $1,000 poundage (tax commission) totaling $51,000. The corrected
information can be viewed at the Partner Parish Office or Prothonotary Office in the Armstrong County Court House.
In accordance with the Diocese of Greensburg, the Partner Parish Office will be CLOSED on Good Friday,
April 19th and Easter Monday, April 22nd. Normal office hours will resume Tuesday, April 23rd at 9:00AM.
