The Order For Morning Worship

Day of Pentecost

ASSEMBLE IN GOD’S NAME

Welcome & Worship Notes

Call to Worship

Leader: God declares:

“I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh. Acts 2:17, 21

Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy.

The young shall see visions. The elders shall dream dreams.

People: Both men and women shall prophesy.

And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord

shall be saved.”

*Hymn in Procession No. 280 “Come, O Spirit, Dwell Among Us”

*Prayer of the Day

Leader: Gracious God you come among your people

as One who fashioned all things,

who, face-to-face, revealed your knowledge of our lives,

and whose presence brings assurance and hope.

People: Pour out upon us the Spirit of your love

so that in hearing and seeing the gifts of this life,

we may know the way to live in thanksgiving;

through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Call to Confession

Let us call on the name of the One who invites us to speak the truth

about ourselves and our relationships and promises to show us mercy.

Prayer of Confession (in unison)

Holy and merciful God,

we do not know how to pray as we ought, Romans 8:26

and we know too well our constant failures

to do as you have commanded and to hold fast to your word.

Forgive us for the divisions we nurture, guide us to your way,

keep us in your care, and lead us into faith.

We trust your word that the Spirit of truth will show us all things

and grant us courage and peace. Amen.

*Assurance of Pardon Leader: People of God, body of Christ, sisters and brothers, the Spirit of God’s truth has come upon creation and upon you. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, in the name of Christ Jesus, our Savior, and by the authority of the church, I declare to you the complete forgiveness of your sin. People: We are at peace with one another because of God’s mercy. *Response Hymn No. 587 (sung twice by all) CELTIC ALLELUIA

Scripture Readings for Sunday, May 27:

Isaiah 6:1-8; Psalm 103:1-13, 22; Romans 8:12-17; John 3:1-17

Consider: Jesus invites us to be born from above to receive new and abundant life.

Salvation, or abundant life, is understood as a present reality in the Gospel of John.

If the gift of God’s love made known to us in Christ through the Spirit is stirred up

by gratitude, what daily practice could increase your sense of gratitude? How could a

simple practice of thanking God at any given moment in the day enliven your

experience of salvation?

Westminster Class @ 9:15am

A new course has begun and will continue thru June 17, titled: The Mountain Top View:

What Jesus Wants Us to See. The course will be taught by John David Geib and Zev

Rosenberg. Learners will explore The Sermon on the Mount as a teaching in itself as well

as the conclusions of the historic church.

WILL YOU COME AND FOLLOW ME?

This Evening @ 6:00 pm Tom Trenney with the Chancel Choir and YOU

Singing Great Hymns of Our Faith

In the last year of his life, our fellow sojourner, Jim Ke?lewell, was researching and wri1ng par1cularly about Methodist hymnody. He had a life-long love for the hymns of our faith and always sang with enthusiasm and sincerity. He took seriously every word of every poem-hymn sung in worship, and he would oJen discuss some of the theological details with his worshiping friends.

This Hymn Fes1val, presented in his memory, will have a theme invi1ng us to answer God’s call to “do jus1ce, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with our God.” The bulk of the selec1ons will be old favorites such as:

“Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee” – “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” “Leaning on the Everlas1ng Arms” – “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling”

“How Firm a Founda1on”

Also included will be some of the new favorites of Christ Church worshipers: “Can1cle of the Turning” (“My Soul Cries Out”)

“For Everyone Born” “Will You Come and Follow Me?” (“The Summons”)

You will be drawn into these hymns by the manner in which Tom Trenney shares his passion as a pastoral musician, composer, conductor, organist, pianist, and teacher. This will be an evening of great music and profound spiritual renewal.

We want to thank you for keeping our Tiqvah students in your prayers and we ask that you continue to pray for them this summer. At Tiqvah we offer our students an 8-week (June 5—July 26), program on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The students arrive or get picked up around 10am and we take them home around 2:30pm. During our summer program we do fun things at Tiqvah on Tuesdays and adventure out on Thursdays (field trips). We offer students breakfast, lunch and snacks. If you would like to help us out we are in need of snack and lunch donations. We like to offer the students fresh fruit for snack like apples, oranges, bananas, etc. Fruit donations can be made to Tiqvah on either Tuesdays or Thursdays. We could also use packed lunch donations for Tuesdays and Thursdays as well. We plan for 45 people during the summer, that includes students, volunteers and staff. If you or a small group are interested in making a donation for our summer program please contact Lesley Doan at (330)353-9697 or [email protected]. Thank you again for your ongoing prayers and support!
