    Corporate Confession of Sin

O God, holy is Your wisdom, power, mercy, ways, works; how can I stand before You with my numberless and aggravated offenses? I have often loved darkness, observed lying vanities, forsaken Your given mercies, trampled underfoot Your beloved Son, mocked Your providences, flattered You with my lips, broken Your covenant. It is of Your compassion that I am not consumed. Lead me to repentance and save me from despair. Let me come to You renouncing but hoping in the grace that flows even to the chief of sinners. At the cross may I contemplate You as one slain for me and by me. And whatever cross I am required to bear, let me see him carrying a heavier. May my soul rest in You, O immortal and transcendent One, revealed as You are in the person and work of Your Son. Amen.

    Silent Confession

*Offer of Forgiveness Through Christ Hebrews 8:10 – 12

For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.”

    Collection of Tithes and Offerings

    Children’s Church Dismissal2

    Pastoral Prayer Elder Ward Toler

2 Children’s Church is a special opportunity we provide for children three to four years of age to help them and their parents make the transition from the nursery to “big church”. They are dismissed with the help of a parent after the collection of tithes and offering to the gym to where they will participate in the singing of the Doxology, praying the Lord’s Prayer, a Bible story, snack, and a brief play period to get some energy out. This is not a “babysitting” time, but to help them grow and mature as worshipers of God that He has created them to be. After Children’s Church they will be led back into the sanctuary to be with their parents for the closing hymn.

Please note that Children’s Church is an option for you and your child. If you would choose to keep your child with you for the entire service and not have them participate in Children’s Church we support that as well!

    The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom Come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. AMEN

    Scripture Reading Luke 9:18 – 36

18 Now it happened that as he was praying alone, the disciples were with him. And he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?” 19 And they answered, “John the Baptist. But others say, Elijah, and others, that one of the prophets of old has risen.” 20 Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” And Peter answered, “The Christ of God.” 21 And he strictly charged and commanded them to tell this to no one, 22 saying, “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.” 23 And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. 24 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. 25 For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself? 26 For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. 27 But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God.” 28 Now about eight days after these sayings he took with him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray. 29 And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became dazzling white.30 And behold, two men were talking with him, Moses and Elijah, 31 who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. 32 Now Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep, but when they became fully awake they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. 33 And as the men were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said. 34 As he was saying these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. 35 And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to him!” 36 And when the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and told no one in those days anything of what they had seen.

    Sermon Notes Luke 9:18 – 36

3 Just as God has the first word in worship, He also has the last word. For those who are in Christ Jesus, these are always words of blessing. We look up and extend our hands out in a posture of receiving the blessing of God.

    - The Pregnancy Center/Sav-a-Life of Oxford & Lafayette County – During November, Christ Pres. will have a bassinet in our foyer to accept donations for mothers and babies through Sav-A-Life of Lafayette County. Needs include diapers (size newborn to 5), baby wash, wipes, shampoo, lotion, wash cloths, towels, diaper cream, and new, gender-neutral onesies. For more information, see Sue Castens or visit www.savalifeoxford.com.

    - ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL -Winter quarter begins December 2nd. Come explore how God’s purposes are woven into every area of our lives: family, work, art, charity, etc.; to rediscover our passionate and imaginative callings as agents of God’s grace in every broken place. DVD video series alongside several facilitators. Meets in CPC sanctuary.

    - Men's Prayer Lunch - Please join us each Wednesday at noon, as men of CPC and the community will meet for lunch, a devotion, and a time of prayer.

    - Theology Wednesdays, 5:30-6:30 p.m. Learning to Read Old Testament Stories. Many of us miss so much wen reading the Bible because we are so far removed from the time, place and culture in which they were written. This fall, we will be exploring how we can be better equipped to be a more thoughtful, discerning Bible reader. Meets in Melvin’s office. If you have any questions, contact, Melvin: [email protected].

    - Are you interested in or do you have experience in sound technology? The Exaltation team is looking for sound system operators to learn how to run our sound system for Sunday worship and occasional church functions. An ear for music and sound is needed, and training will be provided. Please contact Lee Dearing at [email protected] if you are interested in learning more.

-The benevolence committee needs volunteers. If you are interested in serving in this essential local ministry, please contact Wayne Irby at 801-1227 or Carol Anne Miconi at (601) 506-5033.

    - Prayer Room - The Sunday morning prayer group now gathers during the 10:45 a.m. service. Please join us in the annex conference room to please for our congregation, community, country, and beyond. “A prayerless age will have but scant models of divine power.” - E. M. Bounds
