Preparing for the Sacrament of Penance
As Catholics are encouraged to make going to confession a significant part of their lives during Lent, Pope Francis offered some quick tips to help people prepare for the sacrament of penance. After a brief explanation of why people should go to confession -- "because we are all sin-ners" -- the pope listed 30 key questions to reflect on as part of making an examination of conscience and being able to "confess well." Some of the questions to ask yourself:
• Do I only turn to God when I'm in need?
• Do I take attend Mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation?
• Do I begin and end the day with prayer?
• Am I embarrassed to show that I am a Christian?
• Do I rebel against God's plan?
• Am I envious, hot-tempered, biased?
• Am I honest and fair with everyone or do I fuel the "throwaway culture?"
• In my marital and family relations, do I uphold morality as taught in the Gospels?
• Do I honor and respect my parents?
• Have I refused newly conceived life? Have I snuffed out the gift of life? Have I helped do so?
• Do I respect the environment?
• Am I part worldly and part believer?
• Do I overdo it with eating, drinking, smoking and amusements?
• Am I overly concerned about my physical well-being, my possessions?
• How do I use my time? Am I lazy?
• Do I want to be served?
• Do I dream of revenge, hold grudges?
• Am I meek, humble and a builder of peace?
Catholics should go to confession, the pope said, because everyone needs forgiveness for their sins, for the ways "we think and act contrary to the Gospel." "Whoever says he is without sin is a liar or is blind," he wrote. Confession is meant to be a sincere moment of conversion, an occasion to demonstrate trust in God's willingness to forgive his children and to help them back on the path of fol-lowing Jesus, Pope Francis wrote.

We are so grateful for all of your support and dedication to the work we are doing for our parish and in the com-munity. If you haven’t signed up for Online Giving yet, now is a great time to set up your weekly offertory gift!
Christians around the world are united in a special way during Lent, Holy Week and Easter. Our hearts, minds, and prayers are also especially aware of the Holy Land. Our parish, once a year on Palm Sunday, is called on to support Christians in the Holy Land. As a pon-tifical collection requested by Pope Francis, the an-nual Palm Sunday collection offers a direct link for parishioners to be witnesses of peace and to help protect the Holy Places. When you donate ton Palm Sunday, you are supporting Christians in the Holy Land. Please be generous in your support!

Can you imagine a better best friend to have than Jesus? Do you think Jesus had any friends that he might have considered a "Best Friend Forever"? Today tells about Jesus and one of his friends. It tells about something very special that Jesus did for that friend. That friend's name was Lazarus. Jesus received word from Mary and Martha, the sisters of Lazarus, that their brother was very ill. When Jesus heard about it, he said, "Lazarus's sickness will not end in death. This has happened so that God will receive Glory from this." So, although Jesus love Mary, Martha, and Lazarus he stayed where he was for two more days. Finally, he told his disciples that he was going to Betha-
ny. "Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but now I will go and wake him up." The disciples said, “Master, if he’s gone to sleep, he’ll get a good rest and wake up feeling fine.” Jesus was talking about death, but his disciples thought he was talking about taking a nap. When Jesus finally arrived in Bethany, Martha ran to meet Jesus and told him that Lazarus had been dead for four days. "If only you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask.”" Jesus told her, “Your brother will rise again.” "Yes," Martha said, “I know that he will be raised up in the resurrection at the end of time." Jesus told her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die." So, Martha went back and got her sister Mary and they took Jesus to show him the place where Lazarus was buried. When he arrived at the tomb, Jesus told them to roll away the stone that covered the entrance. He prayed to his Father and then he called in a loud voice, "Lazarus come out!" Do you know what happened? Even though he had been dead for four days, Lazarus walked out of the tomb! He wasn't dead — he wasn't even sick! Oh my! How would you like to have a friend like that? Well, I do, and so do you! "My best friend is Jesus. Thank him! Thank him! My best friend is Jesus, Thank him!"

STEWARDSHIP SCRIPTURE REFLECTION
When Jesus heard about the illness of His friend, Lazarus, He responded, “This illness is not to end in death; rather it is for God’s glory, that through it the Son of God may be glorified.” Every aspect of our lives---our gifts as well as our sufferings---can, if surrendered to Christ, lead to blessing for others and ourselves.
