Blessings for the New Year!
Eternal God,
you have placed us in a world
of space and time,
and through the events of our lives
you bless us with your love.
Grant that in the new year
we may know your presence,
see your love at work,
and live in the light of the event
that give us joy forever
—the coming of your Son,
Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever. Amen.

WorshipWeekofPrayerforChristianUnity Reconciliation – The Love of Christ Compels Us January 18–25, 2017 On the occasion of the 500th anniversary year of the beginnings of the Reformation, the theme: Reconciliation – The Love of Christ Compels Us has been chosen. The materials for the 2017 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity has two accents: reflection upon the main concerns of the churches marked by Martin Luther's Reformation, and secondly recognizing the pain of the subsequent deep divisions which afflicted the unity of the Church. In selecting this theme, it is viewed as an opportunity to take steps toward reconciliation.
The theme finds its scriptural context in 2 Corinthians 5:14‐20. The Council of Churches in Germany (ACK) took up the work of creating the resources for this year's Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. A committee comprised of ten members representing different churches met three times in 2014/2015 to develop the necessary texts.
For 2017, it should be noted that this biblical text emphasizes that reconciliation is a gift from God, intended for the entire creation. "God was reconciling the world (kosmos) to God's self in Christ, not counting people's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation" (v.19). As a result of God´s action, those who have been reconciled in Christ are called in turn to proclaim this reconciliation in word and deed: "The love of Christ compels us".
The traditional period in the northern hemisphere for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is January 18‐25. Those dates were proposed in 1908, to cover the original days of the feasts of the Chair of St. Peter (January 18) and the Conversion of St. Paul (January 25) , and therefore have a symbolic significance.
Prayer Guides – both online and printed ‐ will be made available to engage in this week of prayer.

Spiritual Retreat with Nails
January 29
Led by Susan Fox
During the week of November 6 ‐ 10, Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Anderson Township;
Allen Temple African Methodist Episcopal, Golf Manor; and Lutheran Partners, Disaster Response &
Recovery, worked together in rural Richwood, WV to repair homes which were damaged by the June
2016 floods. It was a transformative experience for both the residents and those who volunteered
to serve.
NewBibleStudyTuesdays @ 9:30 ‐ 11:00 am
January 10 ‐ February 21
Led by Pastor Redder
A new Tuesday morning Bible Study will begin in January which will dig into the Book of Matthew,
this year’s lectionary gospel.
“Throughout history Matthew’s gospel has played a prominent role in Christian worship and
practice, and to this day it retains a central place in most people’s experiences of the New
Testament and the Christian faith. Matthew’s gospel speaks well to church communities
today, identifying the church as founded by Jesus (16:18) and issuing practical instructions for
practicing community (18:1‐35). Matthew envisions the church as made up of sinners and
doubters who struggle with faith, temptation, and forgiveness, but ultimately reflect the
ministry and presence of Jesus.”
Sign‐up on the Gathering Area kiosk to reserve your study guide.

ThankYou
FromtheOf ice
On behalf of Reach Out Lakota, I would like to thank you for your contribution to our 2016 Holiday
Program. Your donation of gifts for 25 children collected by the families at Christ the King helped
us to meet our goal of sharing holiday cheer with our many neighbors in need. Because of
the generosity of so many like you, on Saturday, December 10th we were able to provide over
1400 gifts to more than 700 children in our community!
We are grateful for your continued support of Reach
Out Lakota and for being a caring neighbor to
the West Chester and Liberty Township families that
we serve. We value our partnership with you and
look forward to working with you again in the future.
Have a wonderful holiday!
