and dwellest between the Cherubim; praised and exalted above all for ever.

Blessed art thou on the glorious throne of thy kingdom; praised and exalted above all for ever.

Blessed art thou in the firmament of heaven;

praised and exalted above all for ever. Blessed art thou, O Father, Son, and Holy Spirit;

OUR LORD CALLS US TO WORSHIP

* Call to Worship Psalm 9:1,2 (NASB) [Leader] I will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart;

I will tell of all Thy wonders. I will be glad and exult in Thee; I will sing praise to Thy name, O Most High.

* A Hymn of Praise Stanzas 1-4; Hymnal No. 41

When Morning Guilds the Skies

OUR LORD HEARS OUR CONFESSION & RESTORES US Our Corporate Confession of Sin adapted from Romans 2:1-16

[Congregation] O Lord God, our merciful Savior and righteous Judge of the world, we confess we are without excuse before Thee. We confess that in passing judgment on others, we condemn ourselves, because we practice the same things.

We confess we often presume on the riches of Thy kindness, forbearance and patience, forgetting that Thy kindness leads us to repentance.

We confess we are prone to have hard and impenitent hearts, and unless we repent we store for ourselves wrath for the Day of God's righteous judgment.

We pray to Thee, O Lord, who shows no partiality, that Thou would hear our confession, and grant us Thy mercy and eternal life in Christ Jesus, our Savior. Amen.

Promise of Forgiveness Romans 5:1-2,6 (ESV)

[Leader] Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through Him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.

[Congregation] As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds His people from this time forth and forever.

[Leader] For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest upon the land of the righteous, so that the righteous will not put forth their hands to do wrong.

[Congregation] Do good, O Lord, to those who are good and to those who are upright in their hearts.

[Leader] But as for those who turn aside to their crooked ways, the Lord will lead them away with the doers of iniquity.

[All] Peace be upon Israel.

* An Affirmation of Faith The Nicene Creed Θ I believe in one God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven

and earth, and of all things visible and invisible

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds; God of God; Light of Light; Very God of Very God; Begotten, not made; Being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; Who for us men, and for our salvation, came down from heaven; And was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary, and was made man; And was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried; And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures; And ascended into heaven; And is seated on the right hand of the Father. And He shall come again with glory to judge both the quick and the dead; Whose kingdom shall have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, The Lord and Giver of life; Who proceeds from the Father and the Son; Who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified;

Who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy, Christian Church. I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins. And I look for the resurrection of the dead; And the life of the world to come. Amen.

Θ The Nicene Creed is an ancient, historic creed setting forth the essential teachings of orthodox Christian faith. The creed was originally formulated at the Council of Nicea, 325 AD, then later refined at the Council of Constantinople, 381 AD.

Prayers for the Church and the World The Lord’s Prayer Matthew 6:9-13

Our Father, who art in heaven. Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Worship Notes

* The congregation standing, as able. Please remain seated while we meditate during Prelude and Postlude. The Cover Portrait is Claude Monet’s Stormy Sea in Etrefat (1883) Ψ The communion tray is a “mixed tray” of wine and grape juice.

The wine is arranged in the inner rings and the juice is in the outer ring.

Receiving the Lord’s Supper The New Covenant sacrament is the Lord’s Supper, in which by the giving and receiving of bread and wine (or grape juice if conscience dictates), according to Christ’s institution, Jesus’ death is declared. Covenant members are worthy to receive the Lord’s Supper and when in faith they receive Christ’s body given to them and His blood shed for them, they thereby feast upon Jesus Christ in covenant renewal and receive through this means of grace the benefits of union with Christ and spiritual nourishment unto our growth in grace. We encourage those who have been baptized and are seeking to live in obedience, love and loyalty to Christ to commune with our Savior.

Notes:

says, “ All things are put in subjection,” it is evident that He is excepted who put all things in subjection to Him. 28 When all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to Him, so that God may be all in all. 29 Otherwise, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why then are they baptized for them? 30 Why are we also in danger every hour? 31 I affirm, brethren, by the boasting in you, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily. 32 If from human motives I fought with wild beasts at Ephesus, what does it profit me? If the dead are not raised, let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die. 33 Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.” 34 Become sober-minded as you ought, and stop sinning; for some have no knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.

* Reading the Gospel Matthew 13:44-52 (NASB) 44 “The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found and hid again; and from joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. 45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls, 46 and upon finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it. 47 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet cast into the sea, and gathering fish of every kind; 48 and when it was filled, they drew it up on the beach; and they sat down and gathered the good fish into containers, but the bad they threw away. 49 So it will be at the end of the age; the angels will come forth and take out the wicked from among the righteous, 50 and will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 51 “Have you understood all these things?” They said to Him, “Yes.” 52 And Jesus said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has become a disciple of the kingdom of heaven is like a head of a household, who brings out of his treasure things new and old.”

Preaching of the Word of God Pastor Randy Wilding

Faith in the Christ of the Resurrection

INTRODUCTION

I. Teaching on the Christ of the Resurrection A. Christ, the Firstfruits

“But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep.” (1 Corinthians 15:20)

B. Christ, the Federal Head “For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.” (1 Corinthians 15:21-22)

C. Christ, the Risen Lord “But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ’s at His coming, then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be abolished is death…” (1 Cor. 15:23-28)

II. Applications of the Resurrection to Our Lives

A. If There Is No Resurrection, then Why Are You Conducting Baptisms for the Dead “Otherwise, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why then are they baptized for them?” (1 Corinthians 15:29)

B. If There Is No Resurrection, then Sacrifice in Christ’s Service Is Meaningless “If from human motives I fought with wild beasts at Ephesus, what does it profit me? If the dead are not raised, let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.” (1 Corinthians 15:32)

C. Your False View of the Resurrection Has Corrupted Your Relationships and Behavior “Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.” Become sober-minded as you ought, and stop sinning; for some have no knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.” (33-34)

Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice,
