“Letting go” is not always what bereaved people want to do - they often want to “hold onto”.
Clinicians talked about the need to “let go” perhaps because they looked at “unhealthy” rather than healthy responses to grief.
We need to find ways to “relocate” the deceased (in our heart, in heaven, in our memories, in our bodies, in our family…)
Mourning is often about identification - finding a place for the deceased in one’s sense of self
