Specific Assignments• Clear Assignments• Avoids problems

• While discussing stories, which are more visually interesting?

• Don’t be general, be specific on what you want• “Shoot the football game.”• Fans? Field Action? Sideline? Band? Drill team? Coaches?

• Bring along proper equipment for specific shoot• Possible atypical shots• More information = better shots

Shooting the Photos• Commitment to school• History

• Take the work seriously

Advance Preparation• Arrive early• Shoot before, during , and after event• Portrait?

• Make an appointment• Well in advance• Plan for 20 min+

• Take lots of pictures• Different angles• Action shots• Horizontal/Vertical• Small group• Whole Scene

• Avoid posed shots• Look for new ways to cover

Captions• Who, What When, Where, Why, How• Accurate Spelling of names• More efficient to get names at scene• Most just go back and get them

• Record details• Score of Sports event• Location of event• Any info not apparent in photo

• Get direct quotations from people involved• Adds info to caption

Writing the Caption• Two to Four lines• First few words in boldface

• Must be especially engaging

• First part explains what's going on in photo• Present tense• Includes names of identifiable people

• Second part adds info to supplement story• Past or future tense• Includes quotations

• Be specific• Use strong action verbs• Avoid Starting with names

• Avoid to many -ing

• Photo credit
